The library also offers a great lineup of kids' programs that are perfect for little ones aged 2-5. From interactive read-along sessions to holiday-themed events, the programs are thoughtfully designed to keep young minds engaged while making learning fun. I came to this library in July when I took an unexpected week off work. I was going through what I…read morethought was the worst thing ever and right now it may have actually been a good thing but in July even though I normally don't do this I felt I needed time off work or I might snap over this. So around that time I started seeing a therapist because I recognized I needed one. I had to print out paperwork, scan it and send it back to her and now I have my own printer at home but at the time I did not. The library was very helpful. I'm a librarian myself so I thought to call ahead of time and ask them about printing they told me everything I needed to know. I went in registered to use the computer, printed my papers out, filled them out, scanned them and e-mailed them and it was easier then it is a the library I work at but don't tell my co-workers that. The library is also so beautiful I could have stayed and looked at it all day.

Noise: The "mezzanine and lower stacks" is the main study space with the most tables and chairs. Unfortunately, the space is next to the main entrance/front desk area without any separating doors, so it can be loud. Headphones will probably be important if you need to focus. The room is also right below the children's room, so you can sometimes hear kids footsteps running around. They also allow tutoring. There's a "quiet reading room" across the lobby from the main study area, but it is also right next to the main lobby without any separating doors, so I imagine it's also loud. There's not a lot of carpet and a lot of laminate, so noises tend to echo. Limited desks and few plugs: There are only four small desks with plugs (eight seats in total, but the tables are small and it would be super weird if someone you didn't know sat next to you, so there are functionally only four seats with accessible plugs). The quiet reading room only has one desk, and I'm not sure if there are plugs. Ambiance: In the last few years, they've installed greige laminate flooring and movable office tables with wheeled plastic chairs. The vibe has shifted from "cozy library" to "office space/cafeteria". Good things: There is a free parking lot with no time limit directly behind the library. There are only about 8-10 spots but we didn't have any issues getting a spot midday on a weekday. Bathroom is clean. There was a large community space in the basement that probably has good events. There are interesting/useful items you can check out like board games, sewing machines, etc. There's also a 3D printer.

Once you turn at the Library sign, you are entering both the public library and Shoreham Wading River High School premises. Be sure to bear right at the Security Booth and proceed all the way back to the left of the tennis courts, where the library is tucked in. This geographical challenge is the ONLY reason why I'm giving it three stars instead of four. Once there, you'll find yourself transported into another beautiful public library filled with lots of books and welcoming staff. Happy Reading!

For YEARS I try to register for adult classes days after the "start up sign up date" and hear…read more"sorry they're all full". For YEARS I try to get the Verizon hot spot for certain dates (ie when I need it like when I'm going on vacation) and they still can't figure out a system to allow a way to reserve any of the "library of things" (including the hotspot) for certain dates.... so I'm told to put a hold on it, then release the hold, and keep doing this machination until the time I need it and perhaps --by luck --my "turn" MAY come up possibly to coordinate with my next hold and my vacation dates. Seriously??!??. Meanwhile -- doing this is totally not fair to the others that may need it while I'm putting false holds on items in the "library of things". It's amazing all the tax dollars collected for the library on my tax bill... yet it seems the services go to the select few who have an "in" or can work the system. Those who call ON the day classes are "open" at 9:01am, or those who have no other obligations and can literally press buttons all day on their devices in hopes of reserving games, hot spots, classes, etc on dates they immediately become available. You'd think by now the library would've found a better way to serve ALL of its patrons...not the select few. And done get me started on the museum pass tickets -- I gave up trying a long time ago. Again....some fellow patrons must know how to work the system or have an "in" as I certainly don't and yet they're all taken for weekends and school holidays etc. You'd think the library would've gotten more of these knowing they constantly run out. If you're a true library user, be aware if this before you decide to live in this library area. They love to collect taxes, and do so amazingly...I'll give them that...but fall insanely short on services compared to other area libraries my friends tell me of. Such a shame.
