The view from the drive into the rental cottage for the next few days while visiting with some dear snowbird friends from MA.
    Barrett O.

Our great friends from Massachusetts recently bought a place here in Jensen beach and we just visited them in their new "snowbird' winter home and it was a terrific choice to get away from the cold! They're on the Treasure Coast which is a region of Florida on the state's Atlantic coast, comprising Indian River, St. Lucie, and Martin counties. The region, whose name refers to the Spanish Treasure Fleet lost in a 1715 hurricane, emerged from residents' desire to distinguish themselves from Miami and the Gold Coast region. Jensen Beach, in Martin County, where they're is situated on blue-green clear coastal waters between Fort Pierce and West Palm Beach, once was known as the "Pineapple Capital of the World" and still holds an annual pineapple festival. The town's history with pineapples started in 1888 when John Laurence Jensen set up its first pineapple plantation in 1888. Every year in November the town comes together to celebrate the Jensen Beach Pineapple Festival. https://jensenbeachflorida.info/visitors-guide/history-of-jensen-beach/ There's lots to see and do here from the shopping center, numerous specialty stores, and boutiques fishing, to the seafood intensive restaurants and many other dining choices and for the water enthusiasts there are fishing charters, beachside dining, fishing, surfing, boat rentals, scuba diving and a whole more but how about the beaches, well there' lot of these, of course, it's in the name after all, and they're nice ones like Walton Rocks Beach, Waveland Beach, Jensen Beach Causeway Park, Savannas Preserve State Park ( a freshwater park) and more. Sea Turtle/Jensen Beach is the largest public beach, and my favorite, that has nice amenities like free parking, showers, restrooms, picnic areas, sand volleyball courts, a concession stand (walk-up restaurant), and a lifeguard service. Unlike my hometown island, Jensen Beach and Stuart causeway parks currently are open 24/7, and drinking is allowed and dog-friendly. http://video-monitoring.com/beachcams/jensen/ If you are planning to fly there the nearest airport to Jensen Beach is Vero Beach (VRB) Airport which is 29.8 miles away. Other nearby airports include West Palm Beach/Palm Beach (PBI) (40.3 miles), Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International (FLL) (82.4 miles), Miami (MIA) (101.5 miles), and Orlando (MCO) (105.3 miles). Bottom line: I really enjoyed my visit there and look forward to exploring even more of what this lovely Florida gem has to offer!! Recommended

Located on the east coast of Florida in Martin County, are miles of beautiful beaches. This uncrowded beach on the Atlantic Ocean is a great natural area with sand dunes. This wide sandy beach offers sun bathing, swimming, surfing and fishing. The main public beach is located on Hutchinson Island and is called Jensen Sea Turtle Beach, a location where sea turtles nest. Efforts are made to protect the sea turtles.

I found Jensen Beach to be very quiet with an old Florida feel to it. The sand was not the prettiest but the water was beautiful. It had a clear light blue color and was free of seaweed. The few people that were on the beach were respectful of social distancing and everyone was nicely spaced out from each other. There were no lifeguards or bathrooms in the area that I visited.

The History of Jensen Beach in the 19 century revolved around pineapple farming . John Laurence Jensen , an immigrant from Denmark , arrived in 1881 and set up his pineapple plantation which became the town of Jensen. By 1884 the Florida east coast railway reached Jensen Beach, and freight shipments were loaded directly onto the freight cars. In 1885, Jensen was called the Pineapple capital of the world shipping over one million boxes of pineapple each year during the June and July season. By that time a pineapple factory was built to handle the increase. In 1895 a bad freeze devastated the pineapple plantations and two fires in 1908 and 1910 destroyed most of Jensen Beach an its remaining pineapple farms. The industry collapsed in 1920 due to a variety of financial and agriculture problems. Growers decided to turn their interest to citrus because the pineapple was a symbol of Jensen Beach. The fruit legacy is celebrated annually during the Jensen Beach pineapple festival. Jensen Beach is in Martin county and is part of Port St Lucie. The beach is beautiful and free parking is nice, Come check it out.

This is a great beach to come and relax. They offer free parking, restrooms, chair and umbrella rentals as well as a snack bar! There are lifeguards on duty during peak hours.

I love this beach....lots of turtles nesting at night kinda makes it amazing too. My condo I rented for 22 days is right on the beach. It's clean no trouble or homeless people sleeping on beaches. It's safe and that's hard to come by these days.

Great location, short walk from the parking lot to the beach, which is good when your grandma is with you, or a 2 year old or when you've just brought your whole house with you to the beach. Be prepared to see this place pretty crowded, anytime any day. For less crowds go check out another beach down the way. Or wait till about 430 pm when it begins to clear out! Lifeguards on duty till 5pm. The shelling here is AMAZING! Shells you will not find anywhere else! Conches, butterscotch clams, oysters, big ones, small ones, some as big as your head. Beautiful. Boogie boarding, SUPing and surfing can be seen here along with wave jumping, kids splashing and Europeans in Speedos! Enjoy the people watching!

This is a beach so I'll keep this short. Tons of parking (free). No fee to get on the beach. At least 2-3 lifeguards on duty. Several lounge chairs open to the public. Had no problem getting 2 of them on a Thursday afternoon in December but it wasn't long before someone asked us $10 for the hour per seat or $30 for the say. They allow food on the beach so there are lots of seagulls. Smoking is also allowed. Kind of an older crowd so I wouldn't exactly plan my college spring break here.

I spent great days in Jensen Beach. Clean and cool water. I walked along the beautiful soft sand where I found different seashells and corals. The people that come in here are always happy. They have a parking lot and bathrooms. I can't wait to come back and I wish I could stay longer. Thank you Jensen Beach! Gracias playa Jensen!

I've visited this beach on a few different occasions. I don't come down to the Treasure Coast often, but when I do, this is my beach of choice. The beach is always clean, and there are convenient locations for patrons to rinse off. I always use Shuckers as my point of entry to the beach because they have beach umbrellas, tables, and lounge chairs for great prices. There are even places to snorkel, surf, boogie board, and participate in other non-motorized water sports. The beach is clean and quite...not too overcrowded like expected during the summer months. What more can you ask for? I'll definitely be back.

Great quiet beach when the snow birds are out. Pretty nice when they are there as well. You can still find decent parking when the snow birds are in. Move a little further then most will walk north or south of the guarded beach and you can find a quiet spot.

    Ocean is beautiful.

Chastain Beach is located on the south end of Hutchinson Island between the House of Refuge at Gilbert's Bar and Bathtub Beach. Parking is free but sparse so be prepared to wait a long time to park, especially on the weekend. What makes this park unique is it has both beach and river access so you are competing for parking spots with the beach goers and the canoe and kayak people. Lack of parking aside, Chastain Beach is a wonderful place to experience the unspoiled, natural beauty of a Martin County beach. Note that it is only lifeguarded during certain months of the year. There are bathrooms, showers, picnic tables and grills. Fishing is allowed and dogs on a leash are welcome. The beaches on this part of Hutchinson Island have rocky looking outcroppings known as the Anastasia formation which was named by E. H. Sellards in 1912. The formation was deposited during the late Pleistocene and the "rocks" are really sand and coquina limestone embedded with shells and sparry calcite. It forms cliffs and caves that form a habitat for sea life. It is not very comfortable on bare feet but it makes a lovely backdrop for pictures. Interesting fact, Chastain Beach is an ancient cemetery. In 2022 heavy beach erosion from Hurricane Nicole disturbed the bones of members of the ancient indigenous Asis tribe that used to inhabit Hutchinson Island. The burial ground is federally protected and passersby are prohibited from digging up other remains, pottery, or jewelry of the Ais tribe.
