    Stingrays

Enjoy going every year. Highlight is petting the stingrays. Pro tip: arrive 20 minutes earlier than the education portion because that is when you can 'pet' them. There are 3 different educational short programs that are great to attend so you can learn about the area, animals & sealife. I always learn something new. This season's special indoor exhibit is about alligators & crocodiles. Their indoor and outdoor aquariums are really great. Also there is a great walk through the mangroves to get to the intercostal. Visit their website then plan your trip. They are also featured in the local 'Enjoyment Book' with a couple of buy one, get one free coupons.

This is an awesome place! I visited here with my sister and her family and I was so impressed! There is a nature trail, full of beautiful plant life, a butterfly garden, there is a large lagoon that houses large rescued turtles, sharks, as well as a variety of fish, and sting rays. We also checked out an interesting exhibit that showed many different aspects of Florida marine life, and the issues it faces such as pollution, and turtles face from boat injuries. There is a touch tank full of different species, and we finished the trip with touching some string rays and feeding them. Love this place and their work! They do so much to help the area, I love to see it, worth a visit!

The educational center was a great experience and a must stop for kids and adults alike. Lectures and live areas to pet sting rays; see picture. Learned a lot and will be back for another learning experience.

I was honestly impressed with the size of this place! I wasn't expecting such a large area to explore, with a deviated staff and wonderful gift shop. We saw a number of different sea turtles, learned all about them in the sea turtle talk, and took the 1 mile coastal walk. We learned about oyster recycling measures, the mangroves, and wildlife on the walk.

A cute thing to do when you're in the area. There's a play area for little kids, a touch tank, and a butterfly garden. My little boy got to touch some stingrays and we saw big turtles being fed. There are also some walking trails with mangroves. They do have three programs (once in the morning, once in the afternoon): stingray feeding, gamefish program, and turtle program. However, we were getting close to my little one's nap time so we passed on those. There is another building to be opened up soon.

Such a wonderfully interactive and well maintained learning center. Plenty to do to keep both kids and adults engaged. Friendly staff and very clean!

Pleasantly surprised by this experience! We arrived in time to feed the stingrays and view the fish feeding. The touch tank was a hit with the kids. Lots to learn and explore in the indoor and outdoor areas. Be sure to time your visit for the feedings because they happen at set times. Friendly and knowledgeable staff were patient and welcoming as we walked around. It rained while we were there, but we hardly noticed with most outdoor areas being covered.

This experience was very educational and fun and I would rate it four stars except for the fact that the octupus was stuck in a very small tank with virtually no stimulation. For a company so focused on wildlife preservation and environmental ethics, this seems very hypocritical. free the octopus! (or give it a bigger environment)

Beautiful place to visit and fun for the whole family...my boyfriend and I came and spent some time checking out rays (they have wonderful staff that oversees the touch tank and are very friendly and informative), turtles, and more in the outdoor space...headed inside and was greeted warmly and offered lots of information on the creatures in the tanks...we decided to walk the trails and saw some land crabs and also had a nice view of the water...word of advice is don't wear nice shoes as many areas get mucky and you'll get a little dirty...

Would this take a whole day or just few hours?

What I like about this place is that it's not a huge place like Miami Seaquarium or Seaworld in Orlando. It's cozy and compact and very easy to navigate around...without a ton of walking.… Read more

**INITIAL REVIEW**…read more When it comes to the Treasure Coast, Indian River County is often considered the county with the least to do compared to the other two counties south of them. This includes family-friendly and educational locales for kids, parents, and their loved ones. Ergo, I love that the Treasure Coast made three different legs of the Treasure Coast Kids Quest, in which they found such locales in each county to enrich the learning of our children whilst providing educational entertainment which at times could be free. One of the locales in Indian River County is the Enironmental Learning Center, or the ELC. Though small, it is quite mighty in what they provide. But is it truly worth the visit? Well... the answer is yes, but are you willing to spend the money to up the experience? That is something you'll need to figure out. Though an address if provided, the ELC is located on Wabasso Island. First and foremost, it is a preserve, so all of its activities are based on preservation, consevation, and the protection and education of the island's ecosystem. Parking is free and you'll first enter the area with buildings known as the "ELC Village." This is your welcome center that provides visitor and administration support. Take note that enterting the ELC is $10 per adult, $5 per child, and free for children two years and younger. There are specific areas that feature specific animals for patrons to learn about alongside numerous boardwalks and paths. Make sure to check out the Lagoon Center which has a children's immersive and interactive room. The touch tank will allow children to touch lagoon critters (safe to touch) such as small horseshoe crabs, starfish, and other animals. Take note, this is what children need to do who are partaking in the Indian River county leg of the Treasure Coast Kid's Quest. The aforementioned is the core base of what patrons can do at the ELC. However, if you want to add more adventure to your adventure, such as boat tours, then you'll need to pay. There are both childrens and adult programs in which the price varies. This includes school field trips and parties. The ECO-boat tours vary in price depending if it is a pre-paid tour or a private tour. If you want to pay for their regular boat tours, they range from $25 to $40 taking into account the time of day. Both tours are around and about Pelican Island. In conclusion, the ELC is a fine place to grow when it comes to knowing and understanding our Floridian environment, which is technically dying knowledge despite how connected we are these days. I learned so much here, and though you have to pay these days, I understand and it is for a good cause. Pertaining to scavenger hunts, one of the TurtleTrax turtle statues is located at the ELC, specifically at the entrance. There are also a couple of geocaches on location, too. ELC is a solid four out of five star experience. Only reason I will give it less than a perfect score is that it can be a "one and done" for tourists. Besides that, I would suggest people check it out at least once, and if you have the money for it, give them support if you can.
