What a beautiful park. White City is in St. Lucie county. It was named for the utopian Great White City built by architect Daniel Burnham for the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. The park is located off of Midway Rd which is another reference to the fair. The Midway Plaisance was a wide boulevard which formed the mile-long entertainment center of the fair.
The park is part of a string of nature preserves running through southern Ft. Pierce. There is construction going on in front of the park right now making it a little difficult to find the entrance but once you do you are in a nature paradise.
The park is filled with old Florida charm. The most beautiful feature of the park is the large oak trees dripping in Spanish Moss. Park amenities include a playground, restrooms, picnic tables, boat launch, and a pavilion. The park is a popular destination for fishing since the park is bordered by the St. Lucie River. If you choose to launch your water craft from the 2 slip boat ramp you can travel down the St. Lucie River, through the inlet, and out into the Atlantic Ocean. No matter the activity I love the bygone feel of this gorgeous green space. read more
