Where can you beat the dog days of summer? On Hutchinson Island south of Blind Creek Beach is a beach that is for the dogs, literally! This is the only dog friendly beach in St. Lucie County. Walton Rocks Beach Park was created so canines can enjoy the beach too and play in the sand and surf. Dogs may be off leash unless they bother someone. I enjoyed meeting Duncan on the beach who was having the time of his life along with his other canine friends. This park also has free parking, a restroom and picnic pavilion but it is not lifeguarded. Walton Rocks Beach is also an area of archeological importance. More than 1,200 fossils including prehistoric horse teeth dating to 12,000 years ago and older have been found along the shores of this beach. For those who love to surf, there's quite a bit of surfers here. There is also a stand where you can prop your surf board to rinse it out. I didn't know what it was when I first saw it. I came here since it's a dog friendly beach. From beach to sand it's not very big. The surf comes in with the tide and luckily we were on the hill. Width wise you can spread out and easily not be around too many people. Dogs here can be off leash. I don't love that, but it wasn't too bad. The water felt amazing, but this is called Walton Rocks Beach for a reason. There's big rocks on the bottom. So be very careful. I did see emergency services pick up someone who got hurt on the rocks. They have showers and bathrooms here and a big free parking lot. Parking is not far from the beach, but it is just an okay beach for me due to the rocks and the dogs off leash and the bathrooms/showers. read more

This little out of the way beach is a gem. Plenty of parking, clean facilities and dogs can run off leash on the Beach!  When we visited, the Atlantic was blue and the water was excellent. The beach itself is wide and long. The sand is perfect for our fur babies paws. Everyone else played nice. The road in and out is a little rough, but if you take your time, your car won't take too big a bit. Highly recommend. read more

This location has many aggressive dogs off leash with many owners that are not watchful of their animals both for safety or defecation removal. I would not recommend this location for small or medium sized dogs. read more

It's a dog beach and I have no furry friends but that okay all the dogs here seem to be very social and very friendly. Maybe this is the only time they can allow their owners to go without their leashes, so while the humans scoop our poop we can run in and out of the water and chase the ball and eat doggie snacks by the sack full was recently overheard from a black lab showing off in front of a blonde Pekinese. It's not the best sand to track inside your vehicle or house so there are wash stations to wash your paws or the crap off your owner's feet. If my boy is happy, I'm happy, and he was happy at Walton Rocks Beach. Compared to other dog beaches, the beach was pretty weathered and the surf was pretty rough, but that's what's expected of the Atlantic. Definitely recommend for a fun, off-leash day of play for the furry ones and their companions. read more

Love that there's a local dog beach, but not super impressed by the fellow humans. I've only visited once but there was poop everywhere, and on our way out a young black lab followed my dog and I almost all the way out to the parking lot. No idea where his owner was. That said, my dogs love the beach and I'm glad they're actually allowed to be at one so I'll definitely be back. I just wish the fellow owners would be a little more attentive! read more

Took my family here who was visiting from VA. At first they were didn't get why I drive an additional 20 or so minutes north to come to this beach with Marley. Once we got here they got it. Went here after work . Beautiful ocean view and my dog loved it. Large beach so it can be really private. But it can also be social if you go the opposite way. My dog could not sit still for a photo ! In town for work, for a short time but this is a real gem. May come back tomorrow. Love it and highly recommend it. read more

This is one of my favorite beaches in Florida! It's so clean and well maintained, even though it's technically a dog beach. I drive from south Florida (Ft. Lauderdale) to visit family in the area and we also only come to this (dog) beach. It's a little bit of a trek to get to but well worth it. The people that also come here are super friendly and everyone is pretty responsible about picking up after their pets. They have a hose area where you can rinse off your furry friend (and yourself). The dogs also get along really great with each other. Of the many times I've been, I've yet to come across one dog that hasn't been a total sweetie! You get to pet everyone else's friendly dogs and the beach atmosphere it's great for letting them all interact with one another. Plus, it tires them out so quickly catching the waves and running around on the sand. A tired dog is a happy dog! Even if you live an hour (or two) away this is a great people/dog beach to visit! Can't wait to bring the pupper back for another visit! read more

Fantastic dog beach! I didn't know what to expect in advance, not having taken my dog to the beach before, but it was much calmer and cleaner than I had imagined. Enough room for other people's well-socialized dogs to run free and for my less friendly pooch to find a quiet spot to run and play. The people were all attentive of their animals (unlike most dog parks I've been to) and it was well-maintained. There is even a pet waste station with bags if you forgot your own. I loved this place. there are some good and bad things let's start with the good, yes it is mildly populated, very few people where there when I went. although it was a Monday, it is still June, and for lots of people, kids are off school. anyway, at most 10 cars where there total during the time I was there. some left, some arrived, it always stayed about 10 cars. with one or two with no dogs... but hey, it is a dog beach, doesnt mean you cant go alone. it is off leash so yeah, everyone can run around free. I saw few people keeping leashes on, including myself, for first timer at the beach or dog still training I am assuming. it looked more like a tiny island than a beach, some trees here and there if you want shade. the " parking area" is big enough and continues on , on a sandy path. there are few picnic tables ( covered !) which are great if you want to eat somewhere else than in the sand. we did use one , it was really nice to be able to be in the shade to eat. to my surprise, no bugs whatsoever came to bother us or "sit" on our food. there are bathrooms and a shower, and a little faucet to get water for your dogs. people were really nice. no problems with aggressive dogs or anything like that. now on to the bad things, which are only a few . number one : mosquitoes. now, I did not see or got bit on the beach or at the picnic table, BUT in the bathrooms. surprisingly they are all hiding there? waiting for people to use to bathroom and attack in groups. no kidding, my legs have about 10 bites each, plus other places... so I guess if you dont use the bathroom , it doesnt count as a bad point . but most people going to the beach with family and dogs, plan to stay all day or at least couple hours... number 2 : poop, yes , there are poop on the parking area, grass around AND on the beach... so watch out where you step! I almost put my barefoot in one, which would have aggravated me a lot. I do pick up after my dog, I always carry bags with me just in case I go to a place with no bags (ex: turnpike stops) since I have my own bags, I did not look for some, but I had research this place before going and it said there are bags available. and trashes obviously as well. so , yeah. I even saw a dog pooping and the owner was not paying attention since they had 3 or 4 dogs. so it was not picked up. I make a big deal because i work for a vet, and even without this fact, I just dont understand people who have dogs and cant pick up poop. it can carry worms and other things that other dogs can get . since it is off-leash , any dog can walk to one and eat and/or lick doodoo from another sick that. so, to sum up, all in all great beach for dogs' owners. kind of private since there isnt a lot of people going ( or maybe they dont know about it?) it is kind of hidden , our GPS sent us to the wrong place, we just had to drive a bit further to find the hidden pathway to get to it . from Orlando area, it is about 2 hr drive, really worth it to me. the view is amazingly pretty, clear waters. nice people, and dogs. BUT mosquitoes (hiding in the bathroom) and doodoos , watch where you step read more
