His bravery was recounted in the movie Lone Survivor. A native of Exeter, this pool was dedicated in his name. This slightly dated, 1960s era outdoor pool is great for singles, seniors and families. With shaded patio tables under big umbrellas, poolside also has a charming outdoor shower to rinse off after a swim and where littles can safely play in the cool spray on hot summer days. They offer swim lessons but not this year following the pandemic. The Healy pool has a not-quite Olympic-length pool for lap swims (dedicated lap swim hours M-W-F 8-9 am) with an L-shaped extension complete with fun slides where many of the kids splash.. There are at least two lifeguards on duty at all times but signs advise parents to supervise their children. They give color wrist bands to all swimmers after lifeguards test you can safely swim in the deep end. It's an outdoor pool so it's open mid-June through August, weather permitting. Oddly, the pool closes if there aren't enough swimmers. It seems wise to call first before driving over. Plenty of free parking available in the private lot.

Not a bad deal! The people are friendly, the locker rooms are spacious and clean, and the pool is perfectly-heated. It's a great temperature for lap swimming or just playing around. In addition to the pool, there are basketball courts and an indoor track. The South Portland Community Center is a great local resource, and I'm very glad I've started taking advantage of it. If you live in the area, I suggest you do too! Just don't everybody come at once, because the pool can get pretty crowded during lap swim.

However, our experience with the Kids Club has been extremely disappointing. About a year and a half ago, my son had an incident where a staff member teased him. He reacted in a playful but inappropriate way, and as a result, he was suspended for a week. At the time, he was also dealing with a serious medical condition that was affecting him neurologically, which we later came to understand may have influenced his behavior. Out of caution, he did not return to Kids Club after that incident. Now that he is doing much better, and I have returned to full-time work, I recently attempted to bring him back--only to be told that he is permanently banned. The reason given was a Facebook comment I had made at the time describing our experience. I made multiple attempts to have a calm, reasonable conversation with staff to revisit the situation, especially given the time that has passed and my son's improved health. Unfortunately, there was no willingness to reconsider. This puts us in a very difficult position. As a working parent, I rely on the Kids Club in order to use the gym. Without access to childcare, we are now faced with canceling a membership we've maintained for years--not because we want to, but because we no longer have a way to utilize the facility. What's most concerning is the lack of empathy and accountability in how this situation has been handled. I sincerely hope the club takes a closer look at how interactions with children are managed, and how situations like this are resolved, so that other families don't have a similar experience.

The desk people ALWAYS great my on my way in with a smile. The cleaning lady is always on the move, keeping up with any messes left behind by members. I have tried a few classes that they offer and have found that overall the Body Pump class is my favorite because of the over all body work out. I can't say enough about the instructors either. Katie K & Taryn are definitely 5 star instructors. None of the classes are any extra charge, it is all included in the membership. But If you want a personal trainer, its extra. (although 1 session is free when signing up) I would recommend this gym to anyone looking for not just a gym but an overall athletic club experience. Moved to the area four years ago from a few towns away. The house we bought had a fairly new…read moreinground pool that had been installed by East Coast Pool & Spa. For continuity's sake, I drove to East Coast Pool & Spa, even though it was about seven miles further than Coleco. Continued using them because they were very helpful and nice to do business with. At some point, our pool chemistry got a little out of whack. Decided to give Coleco a try since it was so much closer. The older woman at Coleco was a little reluctant about testing our pool water more than twice a year even though they used an electronic tester that didn't take nearly as long as the titration method used by East Coast. The biggest problem we were having was high Cyanuric Acid levels. The old chick at Coleco sold me a product for reducing high Cyanuric Acid while lecturing me that I was doing something wrong. I only did what they told me to do and followed their instructions to the letter. Just for reference, I called the manufacturer of the product and was told to get a really accurate reading, the titration method was the only way to go, so I went back to East Coast Pool & Spa. They were WAY more helpful and much friendlier. They helped me to get the parameters back to an acceptable range. Long story short, I'd drive to East Coast Pool & Spa if it was twenty mile further! On another occasion, I stopped by Coleco to pick up a New Water Chlorinator Cartridge. It was $10 more than the last time I had bought one there a few weeks earlier. I commented on the price increase and the old chic said that was they price they'd always been charging. Next time I needed one, got it at East Coast for $10 cheaper. The nasty old chic at Coleco seems like she would be nice, but had this passive aggressive thing going. Lastly, every time I went to Coleco, I was the only customer in the store, but at East Coast, they were almost always dealing with multiple customers, but were still genuinely friendly AND helpful. Take this review for what it's worth, but I'd stay clear of Coleco. Even some friends of our refer to East Coast as the, "nice pool people", and Coleco as the, "nasty pool people".
