What a veritable Aladdin's Cave of goodies it is - like the Tardis, it's much bigger on the inside than it looks. One half of the store is devoted to artist supplies - indeed, they boast of being the largest artists' supply store in Vermont. The other half is dedicated to cards, toys, bags, scarves, gifts, farden ornaments, pet things and other handy little gadgets that you didn't know you needed in your life until you saw them here. Honestly, we spend at least half an hour in here just looking around. You will be amazed at the variety of stuff they sell. Upstairs is a small but select gallery of artworks for sale, although I confess that I didn't make it past the stair landing as I got distracted by something else that I glimpsed downstairs. The owners were very chatty and friendly, especially when they found out that we were Scottish. They told us about a relative they had lost in the Lockerbie disaster, asking us if we knew the area. A poignant connection. We both emerged with lots of small gifts that will no doubt be disseminated next Christmas. Had it been earlier in our trip we'd probably have bought more stuff, but as we were heading homewards we were limited to how much more we could squeeze into our bags!

When we asked that the loose slip of information on the back of the poster be attached to the back of it after being mounted in the frame, the owner said they do that routinely, so not to worry. We even heard her instruct the employee putting the measurements in the computer to include that the slip should be attached to the finished back of the frame. We saw him enter that request, so we were confident they would follow the instructions. Except they didn't include our item, and didn't return it to us, and they still can't find that slip of information, which must have been discarded. Instead, they attached a colorful sticker identifying the shop, and also a sticker about the special glass. We stopped by last week to inquire the status, because we hadn't heard back in over a month. The owner was ever so breezy about how she'd just have a look in the workshop to find the item, as if it was a trivial matter, but after 10 minutes she still hadn't returned, so we left after providing our phone number yet again to an employee. Finally, someone called today to say that the owner found some information for us online and will mail it to us. It's a small printout about the image. It's a nice gesture. It would have been nicer if the owner had expressed her regret for what happened, and if she had given us her assurance that this wouldn't happen again, and if she had explained how it is they included their own material on the back of the poster, but not ours. The employees in the front of the store are particularly pleasant and helpful, so I am surprised the owner wasn't more solicitous. Please think twice about handing this shop any provenance about your artwork. If the owner simply had apologized for the mistake, we might have been inclined to give the shop the benefit of the doubt in the future. But without having received an acknowledgement that they are sorry this happened, we will take our framing elsewhere. We will miss the shop's great selection of unique greeting cards, but feel we should shift our shopping elsewhere.

I tend to come in to have prints matted and/or framed. Archival materials are the norm. The staff will also mat to ready-made frame sizes or custom. Their training also makes choosing mats easier. "Do you want bright white or eggshell white?" "Let's look at them together." Additionally, they offer to amend things that I didn't notice. A print I asked to have matted and framed was slightly curved. I was assured the print would be flattened prior to being matted and framed so it would sit more snugly. I'm sure most customers would appreciate that attention to detail. Here's to hoping this establishment continues to provide goods and services to this community for a long time to come.

They sell the pencils individually so she can selectively restock the ones she runs out of most. Apparently, green is the most frequently used color for all the grass in landscapes so she can buy individual ones here very reasonably instead of buying a whole new package of pencils. They also have a nice selection of gift items like small pouches, reusable bags, socks, cards and assorted small art themed things. The selection of easels is extensive and includes table easels and standing easels. Tons of canvas, paints and paint brushes. Prices are reasonable. (Check on the feng shui!) They have crystals and other stones and minerals when you walk in on the left. Then a section on chains, ribbons, hooks, pins, and other jewelers making tools and supplies. Beads and are placed on tables on the middle all the way down and on the right hand side -- there's even an old bathtub full of them! There are also a couple of glass cases with antique and very African (?) looking jewelry.
