I had an emergency situation where in the middle of the night my chimney crumbled which I couldn't believe because I've had no issues with it for 18 years. So I hired Jeff to come out to see what happened & give me a quote to get a new chimney and/or repair the old one. To my surprise after Jeff thoroughly inspected everything, told me that it was a Mk-48 torpedo that was dropped from either a P-3C Orion or Seahawk helicopter. At first he wanted $900 just to clean up the remains of the Otto II fuel from the torpedo but then said he'd give me a package deal; torpedo cleanup & put in a new chimney but said he needed $12,500 up front which I paid. Then after he never showed up for any of the appointments I find out that he's been putting in a lot of overtime putting out fires for the Dayville Fire Dept & that he was recently promoted to Fire Chief. So I guess I'm S out of luck on getting my crumbled chimney, the Mk-48 torpedo and all of the Otto II fuel off my house & property. Do not use this guy. read more

Jeff was contracted to re-point 3 chimneys, install new blue-stone caps, run a new flue liner to the boiler and resize an existing masonry window opening. The window opening was made too small and the carpenters had to remove the blue-stone sill to install the window. The sub contractors that Jeff used also made a huge mess of all the new copper flashing on the roof getting mortar on everything. Jeff promised for months to come and correct the issues but never did. He stopped responding to calls and text messages and I am left having to hire another contractor to finish his work and my only recourse is to sue him for my additional costs. read more

This guy is aweful, called his office left messages no call back for 3 weeks then tried to show up and charge me for work he didn't do please please please do not waste your money or time on this joker he's a horrible businessman and a rip off also claimed to have replaced parts on a stove I have that were never replaced the guy is a liar and a cheat I never give bad reviews to anyone I always give a second chance but this guy has left me with no heat all winter with my stove and promises of having and getting the part and still no returned phonecall. read more

Decker overcharged us and failed to fix the problem (a leak by the chimney). When the problem recurred after he "fixed" it, he failed, repeatedly, to show up and look at it. When one of his employees finally did show up, the employee disputed that it was the same problem. I hired a different company. They fixed the problem for half the price and confirmed it was the same problem that Decker had failed to fix. When I forwarded this information to Decker and asked for a refund, he totally ignored me. When I sent him certified letters, he dodged them both. I am surprised this company has stayed in business so long. read more

Jeffrey Decker is a liar and a cheat. I made an appointment in the first week of November to have my pellet stove serviced. The appointment was rescheduled 3 times and they gave me every excuse in the book. When they finally did come out they had no parts and then told me the stove needed a new fan and controller. They also told me the chimney needed cleaning. I told him to clean it and he said next time when he gets parts. The next day I was doing work on the roof and found nothing wrong with my chimney since it was cleaned last year. I then called ENVIRO and told them the code that was flashing and they recommended Pellet stove service. He came out the next day, cleaned the stove and put a jumper wire in and had me running in under an hour. He also said my fan was fine. In other words he saved me 500.00 dollars that would have gone to a cheat and a liar. Never Ever Use Jeffery L Decker. They should be glad I did not cancel the check read more

I had the dis-pleasure of having Mr Decker repair a pellet stove. I know this stove inside and out, and normally conduct the repairs myself. However, I was out of town and the stove needed what I suspected was a new convection blower (the stove had shut down on start-up due to overheat because convection blower would not start) . Mr Decker went to the house on a Thursday , and did not contact me with his findings until Saturday! During his call to me on what he found, he indicated that the convection blower was faulty and needed replaced (made sense since I had already assumed that was a likely culprit). This is where the problems start. He then began to tell me that he cleaned the unit thoroughly because it was so dirty. He stated that a fee of $175 would be assessed for that service (which I did not ask to be done, especially since it had just been cleaned 2 weeks prior), and then he would charge me a $125 service call to return and install the motor. When I contacted the renter at the home, they indicated that he was there for maybe 15 minutes and did not bring a vacuum or any other cleaning tools into the house. I confronted Mr Decker about this and told him his services were no longer desired. He said he was insulted by the accusation and that he would not argue the facts, and indicated that he was in possession of the faulty motor and it would be returned to me. I ordered a new convection fan and I went to the house to install it and low and behold, the bad fan was never removed from the stove as indicated nor was there any sign of any cleaning whatsoever. This is one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had with a repairman/technician. I don't mind paying for quality services rendered. However, outright lying about conducting a service and attempting to charge a customer for it is fraud. I will never use his services or recommend him to anyone again. read more

To all of you out there. Do not use this guy to do service or cleanings on your pellet stoves. He quotes prices and then reneges on them. And on top of that he will cover over to clean your pellet stove and check your chimney connected to your furnace and try to tell you need a new chimney insert even though your chimney for the furnace has nothing to do with your pellet stove. And finally he will tell you your pellet stove is not safe even though you pulled permit and had it professionally installed and inspected for your town building inspector and town fire Marshall to make sure it is up to code. In plain English he likes making up his rules instead of checking to see what the building code is in your town. And just make I called building inspector and fire Marshall again after he left me home and they both said this guy Decker should look up code in town before opening his big mouth. read more

We have lived in the house for 5 plus years. We have had 2 prior chimney sweeps. First one we used for years in our prior house and trusted him. He passed away. The company we use for 2 or 3 years, no problems. The company went out of business due to a divorce. In comes #3 Decker. Before he even climbs a ladder he is talking about how the liners must be just so. He "cleans" the chimney . Tells us to fork over $4200, we need 2 new flue liners and or we will have a fire or die of CO poisoning. The work must be done immediately because if something should happen insurance will never pay for the claim. It is so bad the prior chimney guys obviously knew nothing. Nor do any other chimney company on the planet,we find out when we called a 4th company. They said that there were cob webs in the chimney and it was obvious that it was never cleaned. The crown and caps should be replaced within the next year but it is not an emergency. Decker, should be avoided like the plague. STAY AWAY! read more

After being a loyal dedicated customer with Jeffrey L. Decker chimney sweep of Danielson, CT. for the past 8 years as he installed our pellet stove insert in 2008. Today was the day that broke the camel's back and was the last straw in dealing with this company. After waiting for 5 hours for a tech. to come and evaluate a problem with our Quadra Fire pellet stove, (The exhaust blower fan which his company employee was informed of, as I went to the owner's manual to research it as it was the source of the noise being generated) ... The tech arrived approximately 5 hours past the scheduled appointment window as to what we were informed that it would be. We were told we have to pay the service call charge of $125.00 for the 5 minutes the tech was here to inform us what we, and Jeffrey Decker's office already knew via our phone conversation. So due to our inconvenience, he took 10% off of the service call charge reducing it to $120.44 (WhooHoo). Then we were told that someone would call and inform us the cost of the part. Never happened, so we had to call then to find out that the part would cost us approximately $325.00 (the part pictured below that has an after market cost of $145.00 - $169.00 depending on the vendor) so that was paid via CC over the phone. The tech came and installed the exhaust blower fan (Who by the way was awesome at what he does) ... Then he informed us that we had to pay another $132.94 for parts & labor ??!! are you kidding me... We paid a service call for a 5 minute visit to tell us what we already knew, an astronomical price for a part (talk about a major markup), and then another service call charge to install the part that was already paid for as parts and labor. We will NEVER be doing business with The Jeffrey L. Decker Chimney sweep company ever again! We have been loyal customers with this firm for eight (8) consecutive years... That Loyalty ends today for sure!!! One thing we hate when doing business with companies are scammers! This company has moved to the top of that list! read more
