Jefferson Lines is a pretty good way to get around. They are a step above a Greyhound and strive to move travelers in a timely manner. While not as cheap as the Mega buses in other big cities, the rates they charge are reasonable. The buses I rode from Sioux Falls to Fargo and back was pretty much on time and on schedule. Ted, the driver was very skilled and kept things moving along. He was a great driver but did not suffer fools--something appreciated by this rider. I had to deduct 1 YELP star because the lady selling me a ticket passed me off to some young girl who had no clue on how to ring up a senior discount. So I had to stand around and wait why the other ticket seller yakked with a personal friend and snapped at me when I politely interrupted her and asked if she could help the other lady finish my ticket sale. Jefferson Linea is the way a lot of the college kids get around the area and they have stops along the way directly at some of the colleges. I loved being able to look out the windows and enjoy the beautiful scenery of South and North Dakota along the way. 4 YELP STARS. read more

very very bad carrier, today our bus was returned with no reason from Sioux Fall, SD to Minneapolis, MN. I was next to the driver when he was talking to the dispatch and driver saying I can comeback, after 5 minutes he make a detour all the way back to Sioux Falls, SD, returning from Marshal,MN. Because the other bus going from Sioux falls to Montana doesn't have a driver he drove the line when we came back to Sioux falls because 10 people and we were like 5 persons to Minneapolis OMG I never thought this is gonna happen. disrespectful for the rights of the passengers who book ThEid ticket and arrive on time but never get and reach their destinaction and we have to wait 6 hour or more now is 1pm and next bus is going 7:30 pm. read more

I bought a bus through Greyhound.com-- I rode an actual Greyhound bus from Miluakee, Wisconsin until Minneapolis, Minnesota. Took the bus out from Sioux Falls to Willmar, MN. Was able to get a decent deal ($23ish for a one way ticket) thanks to a promotion involving their grand opening. I took the bus on the day before Thanksgiving, a notoriously busy time for any transportation company. I arrived right about 10 AM for a 10:30 AM bus. Pulling up, I hoped that we would get one of the newer buses (there was a regular bus, a newer bus, and a "rocket rider" bus.) Went inside, and the station was packed. I did notice plenty of seating (at least, I assume it would be enough on a normal day, though it was full now.) There were also various vending machines and free wi-fi to use, along with a TV on the wall that was on but not too loud. I was on a mission, though: get checked in and onto my bus. I went and waited in line at the counter, checked in, got a tag for my luggage, and caught the beginning of boarding onto the regular bus. (Oh well, guess I can't get everything perfect!) I set the luggage outside the bus and boarded, and was able to find a open pair of seats. The bus itself was a standard charter bus, though quite clean. Passenger-wise, most were college students or eldery passengers, along with a few middle-aged passengers. My girlfriend and I sat down in the open pair of seats, waited for the bus to load (about 30 people total), and left promptly at 10:30 AM. There was a stop every half-hour or so, and the route generally followed MN-23 from Pipestone, after a small detour from I-90 to US-59 to make a stop in Luverne. The bus was running about on time until Marshall, when we lost about 10 minutes due to more-than-average boarding and having to board a person in a wheelchair. We lost another 10 minutes or so at the Clara City rest stop (which is at a small gas station.) Talking with the bus driver, the bus had many more passengers than normal. Normally, there's only five or six people on the bus. I assume that, when that's the case, the bus runs on-time, since all of the delays were related to the plethora of passengers on the bus. We arrived in Willmar around 2:30 PM, or about 20 minutes late. The bus stops on the side of an access road, in front of the Lakeview Inn. There's a small convenience store there if we needed to wait for a ride, but our ride had arrived just as the bus pulled up. Overall, it was a smooth, easy ride, and I'm definitely a fan. (Though their "regular" pricing was a bit much for my blood. I was glad to get the deal, which made the price much more reasonable.) read more

I have never been treated so coldly, and with as much disrespect as I was treated by the customer service employees of Jefferson Lines. Today my suitcase was stolen on a trip from Madison to Minneapolis. The company offered me virtually no help in retrieving my suitcase. Note that I feel no apprehension in claiming that my suitcase was stolen seeing that it is a somewhat unique shade of purple and an innocent mistake on behalf of the perpetrator is doubtful. Furthermore, the name and contact information of the individual whom the bus driver had seen taking my suitcase is available to Jefferson Lines. I know that company policy restricts their personnel from imparting me this information. I am rendered thoroughly powerless in retrieving my stolen valuables because I did not tag my suitcase. The customer service representative claimed dismissively that a failed called to an unresponsive cell phone line is all she could do to help. Please keep in mind that at no point on the trip was I informed that I need to tag my bags. It was naive of me not to not know, however Jefferson Lines has been downright draconian in their approach to my situation. I understand that Jefferson lines legally has no liability. However, this is a thoroughly unsympathetic and callous way of treating their customers. It may be legally sound, but this is NOT a company one should bring their business to. read more

Have taken Jefferson Lines trips many times, but the very best was the last one on April 25th, this year. The driver was Brett Nygren. The trip was very pleasant and secure. Brett was an excellent driver and his concern for the safety of the passengers was apparent. His sense of humor made the trip extra fun and I feel we have all made a friend in Brett.
