I think Gisborne is sorely in need of good cafes that produce good healthy food options. Jeds supply that market, their food is paleo and gluten intolerant friendly and if you don't care a bag of beans for either, you'll still love that the food is clean and healthy. The menu is limited but often changes, today I had the burrito and I'll be coming back again for another serve. The decor is funky and hip and all things cool, the seating is a mixture of long tables where you share with others or small traditional cafe tables and chairs. I enjoy watching and smelling the cooking that goes on, it's like being in a kitchen at times. My only draw back and the reason for not giving this place 5 stars, is the coffee. I tried it once and could barely finish it. So I now avoid it and go for a chai latte instead. read more

Jed has recently relocated to a larger premises. The place is incredibly noisy and soulless. It was difficult to find something on the menu that appealed and so I settled for smashed avocado with goats cheese and a poached egg as did my friend. We waited for 1hr and it still hadn't appeared, after asking the waitress to find out where it was she said that the docket hadn't been sent to the kitchen.. waited another 15 minutes for it. 3.5 stars, make that 4 stars. Cozy atmosphere and I'm super impressed there is a paleo cafe in a place like Gisborne! Coffee is decent, food is a bit hit and miss. If this placed ONLY sold muffins and coffee i'd probably give it 5 stars. Wow just thinking about those muffins has made me get my cursor and change the star rating from a 3 to a 4. Easily the best coffee in Gisborne and the food is always fresh and healthy. Banana bread is amazing!

Hard to order if you don't know how their system works. Seems to be a popular destination for those wearing tight bike shorts, would rather not see your junk with my meal. Very average customer service. read more

The system that this cafe has in place for ordering food makes for a less enjoyable experience. We entered to a very busy cafe with people crowding the door, thinking we were waiting in-line when actually we weren't. We were not welcomed or told where to be seated or how there system works. We instead experienced a rude welcoming after waiting 10 minutes as we didn't know orders were taken at the counter and apparently were expected to. The staff member serving us at the the register was extremely impolite. We asked about sitting at a table that wasn't cleared and was told if we sat there they would clean it. We eventually ordered and were seated at the counter (a nice spot). The coffee was good, I had the Granola which was hearty but really just a bowl of mixed nuts with milk. I can see this cafe has atmosphere and great potential for Gisborne. Just the poor attention to customer service was extremely off-putting. read more
