I guess coming up to Kyneton has exposed me to that trendy country atmosphere, something that I haven't seem all that much in my other forways out into the bush. As for this pub I have to admit that it's pretty cool, and my friend's whom I found playing a game of pool out the back, thought so as well. They have a decent selection of craft beers, though it isn't a large as some of the inner city offerings. However, what I have come to learn from my travels in the country, is that the staff here are incredibly friendly, and more than happy to help you out.

It's a proper craft beer bar, offering a wide variety for all tastes, as well as a good selection of other drinks. Also on offer is carefully selected, delicious wine and sumptuous food. There's a quaint little courtyard, a substantial upper deck balcony offering outside seating and plenty of room inside by the bar or in a separate dining area. The warm welcome you'll receive puts many Melbourne bars to shame, and although it's a little on the expensive side, a place like this is worth it. We ordered a pot of beer from Belgium, one of the nicest glasses of wine I've ever had, and a cheese platter. Absolutely delightful. If you're up this way, the Royal George is a must.

Well, it turned out that I was going to stay here for a lot longer that I expected because even though it was going to take a little time for my meal to be cooked, as soon as I sat down I heard my name called out and sure enough, sitting at a table around the corner, were a group of friends. The steak was okay, but not really the best that I have, but the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff certainly made up for that. I also have to admit that it was a pretty nice pub, with a typical country atmosphere, and while they did have a craft beer on tap, it happen to be James Squire, so I tend not to consider that to be a member of the craft beer family.

Having lived in the area for ten years and returned to Melbourne I was almost crying tears of joy at a reasonably well priced and funky venue that has erupted onto Piper St. It's not the usual sandalwood hippy funky seen blossoming then shrivelling into it's own death that we usually see on Piper St. Nor is it the upper class "pub grub" that has taken over this side of town. It's down to earth, honest soul soothing food at a reasonable price. You don't need to be earning the big $$$ to enjoy a meal here. There's burgers and tacos, plus the usual sides. I opted for the smaller Minor Toms burger with fries. $12.50 and I couldn't finish the fries. The whole room was raving about the burgers. The space here is tiny and well utilised. The decor is tex-mex meets country Victorian mountain ranges paintings. With a few inspired day of the dead characters. And it works. It really works. I'll be stopping by here again sometime soon. Alas, the rather weirdly named, Sizzler Restobar, flies in the face of this somewhat disturbing convention and restores one's faith in the concept of quality Indian eateries.) We shared a variety of impressive dishes, including my personal favourite, Beef Vindaloo, which was of a very high standard, if not quite sublime. Nevertheless, it was a most enjoyable example, and certainly the best I've had for a considerable period. The chicken korma was very fragrant and delectable. We finished with kulfi ice cream, a really impressive version of this dessert. The service is extremely friendly, attentive and informed. Highly recommended.

The deli plate was delicious but the gnocchi tasted like nothing else on earth - melt in your mouth soft in the centre, but with a chewy, crunchy hazelnut exterior. And the cheese! And the grapes! It was very possibly the best meal I've ever had, plus it was super affordable and the staff were incredibly friendly. I cannot recommend Sitka highly enough.

Lunch menu starts at 12pm and they serve both menus until 3pm. We were greeted warmly on both visits, with prompt table service and a friendly, relaxed attitude from staff. The menu is very good, quite creative, but with all the usual favourites. The smoothies and coffee are excellent, the best we have found near Mt Macedon. So we found ourselves at the Little Swallow Cafe. It's a lovely little cafe, with a good breakfast / brunch menu. Not so many options that you feel overwhelmed by the menu but still plenty to choose from. Both of us were very happy with how our eggs were done, & we shared a sourdough toasty, yummy all round. I enjoyed my coffee & although my husband grumbled about the "girly" cup his tea was served in, I thought the mixed cup & saucer (local op shop finds I guess) served on a pretty little tray were a nice touch! Overall a recommend cafe for breakfast or a coffee to go.

Quaint cute little cafe tucked away just enough off the busy main street to offer a relaxed and comfortable cafe opportunity outside the city. Food and coffee were both wonderful, and anyone in the area or passing through would be well advised to stop by. I'm really glad I did.
