We had a waterline leak near our meter and our HOA referred us to this company. Upon arrival, the technician, Jesus, discovered the leak and offered two possible solutions: (1) Schedule a 2nd appointment, and leave a tool with us to shut off the main line coming into the home so we would not lose more water or (2) continue with the repair. He said he could make the repair that day but would need to get the parts. My wife asked if the repair would cost around $200 which was the original estimate. Jesus answered, "Yes, and maybe a little more." My wife and I agreed that "a little more" sounded reasonable, expecting possibly $250-$300. Jesus left to purchase the parts and returned about an hour later. When I asked him to reconfirm the estimate, his quote jumped to $600, stating that he was now working overtime, which we had never discussed. I felt we were being pressured into a decision and gouged on the price. We reluctantly agreed, however, having to pay $145 an hour for someone to drive a truck to pick up parts seemed excessive. I also learned that this company does not bill in segmented hours; go five minutes into the next hour, and you'll pay the full $145. I protested and wrote a check for $300. Jesus just shrugged his shoulders but did call the owner on his cell phone. At first, the owner threatened to take us to small claims for the balance, then offered a $100 discount. At NO time were we provided a detailed invoice, or a receipt for the cost of the parts. In a follow-up letter, I outlined my concerns to the owner and offered an additional $75 to settle the bill. In response, I received an INTUIT invoice for $207.05. An additional $7.05? Really? This company has lost ALL future business from this HOA. read more

My property management hired these guys to fix a gas leak PG&E had discovered. After this time, I'd personally never choose to hire JD's for a job. First, very unprofessional installers. Rang my door bell a million times in 2 minutes... (after saying they would not need access to inside). They dug up a mound of dirt to replace the pipes on the gas meter that go into the ground, and never put it back?? Now I just have a mound of dirt and rocks in the yard and my garbage cans cannot be in their normal spot. I'm not sure how they can be okay leaving a job like that, but it's already been almost a week of no one coming back to fill the hole back in with the dirt. Left their pressure tester in the hole and plumbers tape in various places in the yard.. also got grease on the inside of my house while testing the pressure and did not clean it. read more

JD plumbing to the rescue again! Our duplex had a gas leak in Pacific Grove. Yes PG&E cam out shut off the gas but it was JD plumbing that came in right away and put in all new gas lines ASAP. Pacific Grove came to inspect all work and no problems then call PG&E and everything was back in action the next day. Amazing super plumbing! I've used JD's twice. The first time was for an overflowing line in the front yard. JD's identified the line was actually my neighbors and did a great job identifying whose line it was, unplugging, and closing. The second time was to install a dishwasher. Unfortunately this was not a good experience and getting the problems corrected and the invoice corrected was a challenge. They sent someone who did not speak English, did not read the instruction manual, snd did not know how to install a dishwasher or secure it in place. He had someone at JDs on the phone the entire time and still goofed the job up. They sent someone out the next day to fix it. The first guy was here less than two hours, the second guy barely 30 minutes. They charged me for six hours and parts - all of which were provided with the dishwasher. It took multiple phone calls and emails to get the bill reduced to 3 hours and they insisted on charging me for unnecessary parts. They are nice. If you get someone who knows what they're doing, not a problem. read more

Receptionist did not follow through. Plumber took all day to install a water heater- the hourly fee was more than the water heater itself. ..I could have gotten a tankless for that price.The kitchen faucet he claimed was the best was probably the only one he had . There is no clear on off position and the sprayer is weak. Will not be calling them again. read more

Literally the worst experience in my life. To start off I requested service on July 10th, 2020 they did not get back to me until July 13th and scheduled for service on July 14th. When they came on the 14th amid a global pandemic their contractor was not even wearing a mask. I have also attached photos. He came flushed the toilet turned the shower on and said he needed to order a part and it would be in within 1-2 days. We agreed and within 5 minutes he was gone. Four days pass before I have to call them up and the receptionist lies to us for the first time. She says the part is not in but they will call us when it is. After the 7th day I call back and they still insist the part is not in. I call my insurance company only to find out that it has been in they just never called us. We called them back and they said it just arrived a few minutes ago. So we schedule for the plumber to come the following Friday because the receptionist insisted that was the only day from 11-1 pm We wait around for the plumber to come 1 pm passes and my wife calls only for the receptionist to lie to us again and say the plumber does not have a phone and she does not know where he is. Mind you he called my phone the first day he came on the 14th. I scramble through my numbers and finally call him and he says he is in seaside at 2pm. Mind you he was suppose to be there at 11-1 pm. He finally rolls in at 4 pm, cuts a hole in my wall, takes off the faucet to my shower and says he can't finish until Monday because he needs another part coincidently it's 5 pm on a Friday. I have now not had my shower from July 10th to July 24th because they can't seem to figure out what they are doing or where their employees are. He insists he is going to be here 9 am sharp on Monday morning. Monday rolls around and we now call because we know he may not show up. The receptionist once again lies and tells us he will be there at this time it is 8:45 am. She calls us back at 9:05 am that he can't be there because they have other appointments. So now I have not had my shower for a total of 17 days, I have a hole in my wall, and he can't make it because he has other appointments. The worst part is when they finally made it back to my house the other plumber said he didn't even need to cut a hole in the wall. To top it all off they cut our tile and didn't bother hiring a professional we called on 8/4/20 and he said he was going to have the plumber who messed up the plumbing do our tile. When we did not agree and asked how did that make sense he hung up on us. THE OWNER JD HUNG UP ON US. Here's his number if no one believes me: 831-998-0703 Still don't have a shower. GET AN ESTIMATE BEFORE YOU HAVE THEM DO ANY WORK. My elderly parents could not engage the workers while the "snaked out the sewer" and gave us an extremely high bill. I wish they would have been a little more forthcoming on the exceptionally high price they charge and hours they worked. read more

They have been consistently timely, courteous and professional. Never an issue and responses to plumbing issues were prompt when I have been in crisis mode. Mostly do to my lack of DYI skills. At one point long before I became acquainted with American, I had a company come out to replace a broken water valve to washer. They informed me had to rip out wall and replace water lines! We used this plumber them because they were sent by our appliance insurance company. They gave us a quote for putting in a new boiler, but before the boiler was working properly, kept billing us to keep coming back for what they said was additional work. Winter was approaching and we needed hot water and a working heating system, so we felt we were being held hostage while we continued making payments for a boiler that still did not work. The owner of the company never came to see why it wasn't working and we finally had to hire a different company to complete the work. We ended up paying twice as much as their original quote! We learned our lesson. We had two other quotes from plumbers we know and trust and would have paid the same as the "low bidder" but without all the headaches and days without heat or hot showers. read more

We had one plumber from this company out and he temporarily fixed our problem because 2 days later we had a MAJOR overflow which flooded an entire floor in our home, thankfully it was a cement floor. We called them back and they sent out another plumber and he pulled something out is what he told us. When he finished, it appeared that he had done the exact thing that the previous plumber had done. He asked for the payment and we hesitated as this should have been a call back, same toilet, same problem... The woman that works the office was rude and short with us, she wasn't willing to work with us at all. I would not recommend this company. We used them because it's our vacation home so we aren't familiar with plumbers in the area, we thought being that Carmel is a smaller town there wouldn't be many, however, there are plenty of other plumbers in the area. Not 24 hours at all. I once called with a problem on a Saturday during the day, they were great. Tonight, my shower won't turn off, the shutoff valve at the street is rusted, and when his over-the-phone solutions didn't work (turn off the hot water heater) he just argued with me that it should work. Well, it didn't. My house was built in 1938, things don't always work like they're supposed to. At first, he told me that the on-call guy couldn't get here 'til 9p (it's 8p), I said that's fine. By the end of the call, he told me there was no one available after all. 24 hours? Clearly just a gimmick. Lost a customer for life!!! read more
