I don't have the most complex taxes in the world but I had a few issues that I felt like I needed a…read moretax adviser. I got Kim's name from my financial planner who helped deal w/ some finance issues after my dad passed. Anyway, he didn't know Kim but someone on his team suggested Kim. Scheduling was fine, I was able to get in relatively quickly. When I introduced myself, I said I got her name from my financial adviser. She asked me who he was, and when I said his name, she went on about how well she knows him, and it's great to work with one of his clients. I should've known she was a shyster then. I didn't say anything and just nodded my head, it was during work hours and I just wanted our mtg to be as efficient as possible. Anyway, she looks over my statements, and looks up at me and says "well haven't you done well for yourself". Um, yeh, my dad died and left me some money. Aren't I lucky? I was pretty offended, it's like she was sizing up my financial situation in some sort of creepy, greedy way. After reviewing my paperwork, she told me it'd be $1200 to file. I was shocked, but it was late in the season and I needed to get my taxes filed. She said "I'm not the cheapest, but I'm very good", actually, she should've said, "I'm a total rip-off but at least I fill out the correct papers and submit them on time." I didn't learn anything new, I didn't save any extra money, I simply had the correct forms filled out and submitted on time. From looking at the other reviews, it's pretty clear that $1200 is her base fee, which is INSANE. I highly encourage anyone to look around even a little bit, and you'll easily find other CPA's that will give you great advice for a quarter of the price. Oh, if you file taxes w/ Kim, you get a login to a website where you can upload additional forms. And you'll get to download your taxes at a later date. Wow, so worth it.

I agree with Marina H. I had the same experience. Kim seemed very personable when I first met her…read moreand it seemed like I would be taken care of. She listed her many years of experience and the fact that all of the returns are checked by two different people. When I mentioned that the $1200 was high, she said that the cost was essentially a retainer for her services for the entire year (e.g. tax planning, answering questions, etc). The same thing that happened to Marina happened to me. While she's responsive through email and phone before she has your money, you have to hunt her down after you fork over the funds. It became so bad that I put in a weekly calendar reminder to either call or email Kim. Even after I filed my taxes, I would try to contact her with questions and she never got back to me. I told myself that I lost a lot of money and need to move on. Then I had to revisit this frustrating exchange with Kim when it came to getting my old tax return for a mortgage application. She was so bad about returning my emails and calls that I started numbering my emails in the subject line. Since the mortgage process is so sensitive to timing, i made it a point to email and call every single day. Finally, I heard back from her and she said that her uncle, sister-in-law and nephew died, and she had a hard time dealing with it. I'm sorry to be callous, but she is running a business. We are not friends and frankly if that was the case, one would think that if this were a professional business, she would make arrangements to have someone answer emails and phone calls to tell clients that she would not be available for personal reasons. I've been down this road of non-response from her before, so I was reluctant to believe any of it. To summarize, if you are looking to do an individual tax return, look somewhere else. You don't get what you pay for with her.

Poor service, egomaniac running this place who has time to sling immediate personal email attacks,…read morebut took a month to tell me that he can't help me with a business matter. Actual exchange between the owner, Johnny Castro and me (names and personal details removed): Me: Thank you for the referral, but a piece of feedback for you... it would have been good to know this a month ago when I initially reached out with my need and sat waiting for the initial consultation today, versus 4 minutes after the consultation was scheduled to start. I've lost valuable time in resolving this issue... sadly unprofessional. Johnny: It's people like you that really make us question offering free consultations to begin with. Our firm generates over $20m annually, so we have very limited time to review non-billable emails. But when we do, we kindly provide substantive guidance or make referrals to the right people within our global network. Me: My firm generates $17B in annual revenue and I get back to people within 24 hours of their initial inquiry. Johnny: Lol, okay man, being an employee of a company doesn't mean you're making that amount. You make $300k tops. Piss ant. Me: You have to pay people so you don't take home $20M either... douche bag... LOL

Despite never writing reviews, I'm compelled to share the experience we had with Castro & Co. While…read moresome of the staff were helpful when they responded to emails, the interactions with John Anthony Castro (owner) were by far the most unprofessional and disrespectful I've had with anybody in my personal or professional life. My experience mirrors some of the comments below with regard to the completely inappropriate personal insults and complete lack of communication when emails aren't responded to for months. Further, he's placed the blame for mistakes his firm made in not remaining up to date with regard to tax law, on the client. The damage has been done in our case, but I write this review to hopefully help others avoid a potentially very costly mistake and extremely frustrating experience with a process that's already stress inducing and convoluted.

As for the service, very consistent with other branches I've been to in that you're welcomed immediately upon entering with friendly customer-oriented smiles and personal acknowledgement, which lends a nice genuine community-like feel to the whole process, unlike a certain nameless, faceless, behemoth banking institution (ahem, Bank of America). You can bank online, with a teller, at any of the available ATM machines, but can also receive personalized attentive service by any one of the available associates who are readily accessible by a mere glance and "help me" look in your eyes! I was offered very personalized in-person and email assistance, from start to finish by one of the teller supervisors on duty recently, who took the time to call around internally to help me track down a refund credit that I was unable to confirm on my own! They conveniently and fastidiously followed up with me later that same day to confirm I was indeed credited and offered to send me the specific statements reflecting all the details. 4 words: I'm glad I switched!

These people range from the DC office to Corporate and they were all terrible and for that reason, I will never use PNC ever and hopefully you will never have to go thru what I did. WORST BANK EVER. Costed me hundreds because their lender couldn't get their act together for closing. Took it up to the execs and they came back with "sorry we can't give you additional any additional information because you're a third party. I sent them by HUD, but apparently they want a pint of blood too. Don't EVER use them for your mortgage. Their customer service is terrible. They don't respond to anything. They act like things are moving along when no one is touching it. It's easier for them to ignore customers rather than help. Never again do I ever want to deal with these individuals with no brain or respect. Such thieves. You're better off at a credit union.
