It's a coop where the staff are passionate, knowledgeable and cater to all customer types. In stock are great brands such as Surly and Brompton. They won't try to force you to buy something off the shelf, they will help you customise it and go the extra mile e.g. offering to loan us a bike so bf could accompany me home and giving us flapjacks! Purchase also comes with 3 free services after which bike is a good as new.

While Neil M. makes an obvious and valid point about the larger stock of Edinburgh Bicycle Co-op, I don't feel that is necessarily a deal-breaker against buying a bike from The Bicycle Doctor which is still quite sizeable. Plus, I get the feeling that the stock offered by The Bicycle Doctor is quite savvy in its own way, with some unique products which may be hard to find elsewhere in Manchester. For example, an electric bike by Trek at £1,700 and a rainbow of cute pastel-coloured Brompton folding bikes both suggest that people are spending serious money here - in fact I don't think EBC stock electric bikes at all. I parted with cash for an interestingly versatile 100% merino wool 'buff', which can be to protect and the cold and UV also, plus a neat pair of cycling sunglasses which several people have asked me where I bought them from. I am in the market for cycle panniers, and I will definitely consider buying them from the good Bicycle Doctor, especially since they stock the high-end Ortlieb roll-top waterproof designs and even had four or so different colours in stock. On the repairs front, their website states that all their mechanics are Cytech-certified which sounds good enough to me! Lastly, The Bicycle Doctor allocates a significant corner of their precious floorspace to a rack of cycling leaflets detailing local routes, mass rides, and cycle-friendly tourism further afield - an authentic touch which typifies this Workers' Co-op which has been 'Serving the Cycling Community for over 25 years'. Thanks, Doc - you left me feeling good, and good to go!

Not too good for buying mountain bikes, but OK for lots of other things…read more I've been into The Bike Shop on Crossgates Road quite a few times over the last few weeks as I have been in the process of buying bikes for myself and my fiance. It's great for the casual cyclist. However, and it's quite a big however, they don't have that much choice of manufactures and they don't have a lot of bikes out on display. For example, they only had Specialized women's bikes built up and in the store. Their other relatively high-end manufacturer is Kona and they have some pricing issues at the moment as most people will be aware. On the plus side, the staff are extremely helpful, and they have a very good selection of kids bikes, BMX and commuter cycles. Although we bought our bikes elsewhere, we did go back to this store to purchase a car rack and a fair few other accessories and they were really helpful showing me how to set the bike rack up on my car.

So we looked at lots of specialsed bike shops that were really out of our price range. We thought Evans are a big company we will get the range we need. They had 2 bikes in the store to suit our price range but the staff were worse than disinterested. We couldn't pry the information we needed out of the member of staff. We went back on the internet and found the Bike Shop on Crossgates Road, Leeds. What an amazing experience! A massive range of quality bikes. The staff are so helpful and can't do enough for you. I can highly recommend The Bike Shop, we need 2 more bikes next year and will definitely be going back. A VERY HAPPY CUSTOMER

In june 2024 he claimed it was ready and requested final payment which I, which I made immediately. I haven't heard anything from him since. He doesn't return phone calls or emails. I am forced to turn to the small claims courts to get my money back. You have been warned, go elsewhere.

Note the one about being the "custodian": 24 Oct 23 Apologies for not getting back to you earlier as I have been off work. However, your frame is finished. I have packed it up and I'll write up your invoice tomorrow. Kind Regards Paul Gibson 30 Oct 23 Your frame is all packed up now. I did take a photo before I fitted the parts, which you should find attached. Kind Regards Paul 23 Nov 23 Sorry for the delay. One of the decals for your Peugeot had a fault in the printing which we didn't notice until the clear coat was applied. I've ordered a replacement decal set and we'll redo the decals as soon as they arrive in the next few days. I'll be in touch as soon as we have them applied and the new clearcoat done. Kind Regards Paul 4 Jan 24 I just wanted to email you and apologise for the delay with your Peugeot. This email is an apology for falling below the standard expected at Ellis-Briggs. Unfortunately I have a tendency to overestimate what I can accomplish each week and this has led to a backlog. In the last few months of 2023 I was completely burnt out from work 80 hours a week on top of my family commitments. However over the Christmas holidays I have been working behind the scenes to clear my backlog, so I will now turn my attention to making sure your project is completed ASAP. I've worked at Ellis-Briggs my entire working life, it is not just a business for me. I consider myself a custodian. Like most of the bike industry it's not a highly paid endeavour but more of a passion project. I really do love my work. Going forward into 2024 I'm looking to take on another member of staff, to deal with the admin side of the business, as it's taking me away from where I am most needed in the business. I hope you can accept my apology and I'll update you next week where things stand. Kind Regards Paul 12 Jan 24 I don't get up everyday with the desire to disappoint people. On this occasion I've messed up but I want to put this right. Kind Regards Paul 12 Jan 24 I said I would update you this week. Your frame will be ready next week. Unfortunately I can't collect it until the following week as my transport is on holiday and I am teaching all next week. So either way I can either ask them to stop what they are doing with your frame and leave it as is or I can leave them to finish it. Your call. If you choose to have all work stop, I can refund you less the cost of the frame alterations which have already been carried out. If you choose to let them carry on, there will be no further cost as I will do the whole job for the deposit amount. Either way, I won't be able to post the frame until the end of week beginning 22nd January. Kind Regards Paul 29 Jan 24 Just wanted to let you know that I am picking your frame up from the painters this week. I will let you know the tracking details once I have packed it up and arranged the courier. Kind Regards Paul After trying to contact him numerous times via email and phone, i have finally given up and have accepted the fact that I am not getting my frame back. I am now going through the small claims court to try and get my deposit back and the cost of a vintage frame.
