The North Face sells clothing, equipment and accessories for all manner of outdoor pursuits…read moreincluding climbing, hiking and snow sports. It caters for people who are passionate about what they do and are willing to spend some money to ensure they have the gear they need to get the most out of their activity. Due to the fact that the clothing at The North Face is carefully designed to maximise practical performance, it comes at a higher price than clothing at high street fashion stores, with jackets costing between £100 and £450. This reflects the innovation and quality of the products, with many items using hi-tech fabrics. They also sell some clothing and footwear for kids, with the girls' section featuring obligatory splashes of pink (though slightly muted, maybe to reflect the fact that this is serious gear!). The North Face would appeal to the serious outdoor type with a slightly geeky degree of interest in maximising performance and carrying the latest in light weight breathable technologies and such like...not necessarily for your bog standard annual family camping trip.

Hands up everyone who's bought a jacket from The North Face, and was told on the blurb it was…read morewaterproof and when the rain came found out coldly and damply that it was not?! As a brand I love how The North Face looks, it's cool and stylish and technical without having the outdated look of Rohan gear. There's all the gear in here for the people wanting to look a bit trendy in our British weather, and there's coats, jackets, walking pants, footwear, socks, karabiners, ropes, bags, camping gear, knives and the whole sheebang. The staff are fabulous, and really do bend over backwards if you have any sort of query or want to hunt a The North Face item down. The lass we harrassed phoned through to the head office to secure a jacket for us, and that was before she went through every other channel she could think of. If reviews were based on staff alone The North Face would excel, but on gear quality, I haven't known a jacket yet stand up to a truly English Winter. Berghaus, Helly Hansen, O'Neill and Westbeach would all be more reliable options.
