You can't miss JCs bright pink, lime green, and white ice cream stand while driving southbound on rte 53 in Hanover. There is a small area with picnic benches if you want to sit a while and eat your ice cream. JC's sells hard ice cream, which is usually my preference, but tonight I decided to take to take a trip down memory lane and get their famous soft serve swirl. We had the creamy pistachio/coffee swirl and an icy orange sherbet/vanilla swirl. Watch out you don't get a brain freeze if you try the sherbet. I've been going to JCs since I was a child and it seemed to taste even better tonight. Maybe that's just from feeling nostalgic. The service was exceptionally fast. I'm always amazed when I see people lined up at the DQ down the street. JC's is far superior. read more

Ice cream was great, but the recycled cups for the milkshake could have been better, it sat in my cup holder for the 10 min ride home, and when I got home, my cup holder was full of milkshake. Had to throw the whole thing away. The couple of sips I got and the other ice cream was very good, though. read more

I'm going off a single, most excellent orange-vanilla swirl and the promise of an extended soft serve season (they're open through Thanksgiving!), but I've gotta say: JC gives great cone! Wife approved of the cherry dip - chocolate and strawberry, also avail - and passed along the remaining vanilla soft serve for my spoon's analysis. More dense and seemingly creamier than your standard stuff. Is this a hoax? Isn't all soft serve mix the same? Was I enamored with the availability of the Krunch Kote, or mesmerized by the coffee & pistachio swirl awaiting a curious sampling, to note such a difference in this vanilla versus others? Nope, I'm a machine-issued dessert genius. Listen to my words. Loads of hard ice cream flavas provided by NE legend Gifford's, and Richie's Italian Ices power the slushes. Prices are moderate to high, although the serving runs bigger than you may be expecting, so downsize on your first venture. And if you're looking for something savory, better hop across the street to Imperial Garden - this place only dishes sweets. You can't miss the hot pink roof. I've been going here since I was a kid. Starland and then JC's Dairy= a good time. I only get soft serve. Pistachio / Coffee swirl with Jimmies, err Sprinkles, is hard to beat. In fact, it's bomb and you should try it at least once. A medium is actually very big. I would never get a large! read more

Great local spot for ice cream. Service is quick and super friendly, my mom loves their raspberry hard ice cream and would continuously ask me to get her some. I would drive around 10 minutes to get home and the ice cream wouldn't be melted. I also usually get the hard chocolate chip ice cream - delicious. Lately I've been into soft serve blended with toppings and decided to try it here. It's called the Nor'Eastern. Unfortunately it started melting very quickly and by the time I got home it was too melted for my liking. This was also because I added m&ms and caramel but there was just so much m&ms that I couldn't eat it. It probably sunk to the bottom when the ice cream melted but it was way too many m&ms for me. I recommend their soft serve if you will be eating it right away, otherwise I would stick to their hard ice cream! read more

The staff were friendly, prices are average and the ice cream is delicious! We stopped in today to get some relief from the heat and for me their pistachio soft serve did the trick! Wish I could find pineapple soft serve somewhere in Massachusetts. I'd definitely recommend JC's read more

5 reasons for 5 stars... 1. De-luscious soft serve ice cream. Not a ginormous selection, but all of your favorites are here, plus they have a pistachio/coffee twist. Good heavens. 2. They are my very favorite soft serve stop nostalgically. I swear I remember my Dad stopping here when we'd swing by my Grandparents' house when I was a wee Amy. If my mind is playing cruel tricks on me, and JC's wasn't here in the '80's, I'm a monkey's uncle. 3. They offer traditional ice cream, Richie's slushes, hot dogs!, and other treats beyond the aforementioned yumm-a-licious soft serve as well. 4. Not the most scenic (right on Rt 53) but JC's is a great local ice cream spot with all the things you need for getting the summer treat right. Ice cream options aplenty, soft serve (with dips! and krunch coat!), frappes, and a handful of foods. Plenty of seating at the handful of picnic tables off to the side or in the covered open air area (hey, sometimes you still want ice cream in the rain). My soft serve heart still belongs to JJ's down in Cohasset but this is a great local option and that plus proximity means this is our family's ice cream go-to. read more

Who doesn't like ice cream? OK, well we all like something sweet in the warmer months and JC's Dairy is the best place to go in the Hanover area. When I moved down here years ago to marry my wife she told me JC's Dairy is a favorite since she was a kid. Once it opens in the warmer months it can get packed quickly although you don't have to wait long with up to four windows to help you get your order. The workers here are always happy and never disappointed with the service. Seeing it was a favorite for my wife we have come here with kids too now. Although we live in Halifax the drive is worth it for great ice cream. They serve regular and soft serve ice cream in a variety of flavors. If that isn't your fancy you can have a banana split (ala Banana Boat), Slushies, milkshakes/frappes, as well as soda & water. I do believe they also have a "doggie bowl" size for your pets as well. lastly, they do have ice cream for diabetics. They have two seating areas outside (Its all outside except for the workers inside.). One part is under a little walled area with benches along the walls. Plus they have 3 benches currently painted pink (Which my daughter loved!) in the lot attached to the other seating area. The attached photo is of one of their new signs attached near the area you order. (I'll try next time I'm there to snap a few more photos so you can see the whole building.) They used to be cash only but now if you order over $10.00 they do accept credit cards-Though check as this may change at any time after posting.) So JC's is under "new" management (apparently its the old owners) now i have been goin there forever since i was a kid, im 25 now. This place rivals dairy twist in pembroke hard. Have always loved there ice cream. Now they were closed for renovations, new bright inviting paint, and i was so excited for when they were goin to open. I would drive by once a week to see.. Finally they opened an i couldnt wait to go... So i finally get there, waitin in line so excited, get my ice cream and.... THE BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT EVER! There ice cream is like watered down slush verzion of what ice cream is. As if they took the blandest most tasteless ice cream an threw it in a blend with ice and thats what they are using. It is disgusting. No flavor, no subtance, disgrace to ice cream itself. I had to drowned it in crunch coat (which the made me pay extra for, which then never used to an dairu twist doesnt either) just to get thru it. And the sizes are so much smaller than what they used to be, a small was ginormous before an now its teeny tiny. Ugh where to get started. If i could give no stars, I would. First off, way too pricey for what they give you. The place isn't air conditioned and the machines break all the time, so sometimes the ice cream goes bad in the soft serve machines, and the girls who work there still serve it to customers. They always run out of everything because the new owners don't know how to run a business. I've seen pets such as dogs, bugs, and other things that should not be in a food service place in the back, and they would sometimes be brought to the front counter. Worst of all, in my opinion, is how the shop was infested with flies. There were fruit flies in the toppings and house flies sometimes fell in the hard shell dips. Absolutely disgusting. They also dont take credit cards, as it says they do above. I miss the old JC's read more

I'm not going to write a bad review of the ice cream, because well ice cream is ice cream and it's always good. However, the service I've received the past few times I've been has been seriously lacking. It seems that everytime I go, at least one of the girls working their is standing in an open window talking or flirting with their friends/random boys and not helping customers at all. This in turn holds the line up for at least 20 minutes while the two or three other girls pick up the slack. read more

This place has been around forever, but I was not happy the last time I visited this place. Their soft serve is definitely not up to par. It was a fairly cool day in late September when I visited and the soft serve began melting a lot immediately when I got it. The hard serve is great, but its Giffords, so it better be good..
