I went to this store initially to pick up some make up from Sephora. After getting my make up I noticed signs all over saying an additional 50% off of the clearance, so naturally I decided to skim through. I made myself upstairs to look for clothes for my son and some how ended up at the mattresses. I ended up purchasing a floor model mattress in the spur of the moment, the associate told me as long as I didn't take it out of the store that I could return it, seeing as I could not get ahold of my fiancé for his opinion. After I left the store I realized the associate over charged me about $100 and when I got ahold of my fiancé he wasn't thrilled about the purchase. So I went to the store with my receipt and returned the mattress. This is where things get dicey, the associate did the return with no problem, or so I thought, as I turned and started to walk away she said,"uh-oh", so I turned back around and she told me to wait. Two supervisors ended up coming over and I was told all was well, the return was processed. The next day my card declined while I was out, turns out the store did a forced settlement on my card and charged my account instead of refunding, this transaction over drew my account. I immediately got on the phone with my bank and they could tell something was off, so we did a 3-Way call, after 40 minutes of trying to get someone on the phone we managed to speak to an actual person. I explained to the woman what had happened, my bank explained, and the woman kept asking us in a condescending manner,"well, what do you want me to do about it", by the fourth or fifth time of asking me that I asked for a manager. The manager, Jody Rice, got on the phone and was extremely rude, unhelpful, and would not listen to my bank, as they were trying to tell her there was not a return done and that my card was charged twice, both settled, and one transaction was forced. Jody Rice was very dismissive, unsympathetic, and could not care less. She ended the call abruptly and did not want to be bothered. My bank then called JCPENNEY's corporate office where we eventually got a gentleman that pulled up the receipts and immediately could see I was charged twice. He was very helpful and friendly, he called Jody and explained the situation, and he told me the refunds were done and to check tomorrow. He was hesitant as to how they were going to issue the second refund, due to how the transaction was done. The next day I only had one refund in my account, I decided to just go to the store and try to handle it. The manager, Jody Rice, was there, but refused to come downstairs. I did not receive an apology for the mishap or the way she treated myself and the bank on the phone the day prior, she would not come help the associate do the refund, nothing. The transaction kept coming up as error for the associate, but again I was told that the refund was completed. The next evening I get a notification from my bank that my account had been over drawn, AGAIN! I immediately called the store and got the associate from the day before, her attitude had changed prior to the day before, she told me that since I decided to get corporate involved that I would now have to go through corporate and deal with them. I have spent over 10 hours on the phone between my bank and JCPENNEY, I finally just received the refunds onto my card, fingers crossed I don't go back into the negative again. This was a nightmare, to say the least. Poor management and rude associates is what made this such a negative experience. I have al ways been a loyal customer (I buy my hair products, makeup, clothes, household, etc.) but I refuse to ever step foot into a Jcpenney's for a very long time. I am out over draft fees and I can't get a higher up to return my calls. Never again!! read more
