As I have gotten older, I have started shopping pretty much everywhere, and JCPenney is one of those places I still check out from time to time. I recently stopped by this location looking for jackets. The jacket selection was not the strongest, but they had plenty of other things that caught my eye. A lot of good sales! Their Levi's section is actually really solid. I ended up picking up a long sleeve shirt and a Levi's jacket, along with a few other items from different brands. I went in for one thing and walked out with more than I expected, which is usually a good sign. Overall, a nice stop with a surprising amount of good finds. I had a 10:00 a.m. portrait studio appointment and was instructed to arrive early, however the mall doors do not even open until 10:00 a.m. This meant I was only able to start walking to JCPenney at my scheduled appointment time, and then still had to make my way to the Portrait Studio and check in. By the time I was actually checked in, I was already about 15 minutes into my appointment -- which is the total length of the session. As a result, the entire experience felt extremely rushed. There was no time to get comfortable, adjust poses, or capture quality photos. Unfortunately, the photos did not turn out well at all. Even with a discount, I paid $171 for all digital images, which were frankly very disappointing and not worth the price. They had a good selection of slim fit slacks and shirts, which was what I was looking for. Also, plenty of sales that I was unaware of until I got to the register. Not only was this disappointing but it also shows how unreliable that their system is. Absolutely the worst customer non service ever. 1st of all they only have two places to check out. No other cashier stations for the 10 people waiting in line. Second the cashier will harass you into opening an account and is terribly rude as you stand there and continue to say no. Lastly DO-NOT lose your receipt. Attempting to exchange without a receipt is an absolutely horrendous experience. 1st you go to the second floor and wait only to be told you can't exchange or return without a receipt. You are then instructed to go downstairs to the area where you made the purchase to exchange. After standing in line AGAIN you are told no exchanges without a receipt. I had to literally call the store to have the manager come over. Upon arrival she was visibly upset having to assist with my issue. She entered my phone number into her register and lo and behold there was my receipt. WTH!!!!‍. I now see why brick and mortar stores are going away. This was a ridiculous experience and a waste of an hour!!! read more

I love jcpennys because I'm a bigger guy and they have great choices for big men sizes. But this place always runs out of clothes in that section barely have any choices stocked and this jcpennys needs to fix their air conditioning fast ! There's no central air what's ever I seen that there's big tubes hooked to the air vents and somehow are connected to a machine that blows little air . I mean yes jcpennys is old like sears who are all closed. So I understand that it's outdated but still you'd think with all the lights they have in a store from ceiling to glass display cases they'd have working air because it gets hot in the store! my mom got dizzy and I was sweating. The bathroom is sketch and not private at all like one mentioned. The fitting room changed but is decent. Either than the air the main complaint are the workers. Every customer service station is unattended. Usually the men's section has a cashier for you to check out which can be Inconvenient because the men's area is near where you exit the store and mall itself. So if you wanna shop around the mall more you have to walk all the way back across the store from the men's section. As a long time customer of JC Penney store @ Southland, Hayward, I was recently shocked to learn that they now have Co-Ed dressing rooms! I usually buy online from them but needed to go there personally to try outfits on and was very uncomfortable knowing it was Co-Ed. This is not acceptable to merge the men and women together in the same area to try on clothing! Who made this idiotic decision and why?? I usually love shopping at JCPenney's. They usually have plus sizes very reasonable prices and very comfortable. Today I have no idea what the problem was. March 8, 2023 I go in I usually come to JC pennies three or four times a month and I spend a pretty good penny. Well, it's a hot mess in there. So I go to the women's department I get my clothing I'm excited. I walk up to the women's register. No one's there. They don't have a little carts or anything to help you shop. However, I take my clothes to the mail department because I noticed a register open. I'm very excited because there's one one person at the register. So I'm like OK she's almost done ringing her up to be another two minutes. No! That's not the case she's trying to get her to apply for a JC pennies credit card. The lady saying I believe I have one. I kid you not after 30+ minutes I decide let me find another register.! Like my arms are tired I literally have lots and lots of clothing. I go to shoes. She says the register is open over there. I said oh it's not open. I just left from over there. Yes yes go over there. I love everyone but the store so happen to be full of Asians today. And the reason I said this because the shoe lady brushed me off instead of ringing me up, or finding someone to come to the register. Then I noticed a lady and her husband at the register in jewelry So I wait till they finish. Again, the lady was trying to make a JCPenney get a credit card deal. After 17 to 18 minutes for one item to be rang up! She's done so she looks at me and walks away you guys. And I'm sorry she was Asian and the lady she ran and got was Asian. I find that as they are closing stores, mail order shipments arrive quickly with more mistakes - not paying attention to sizes , etc. Normally I wouldn't mind returning items but they require you to go to the store or pay to ship it back. What happened to JCPenney? I just left a JCPenney. Where I found a Gshock watch in the clearance section. I asked how much it was. She told me it was $65. I told, "perfect, I'll buy it" handed her $100. She replied with. I need you drivers license. Which confused me, before I gave her a $100 bill. I was sold a gold chain and offered an additional 10% discount that was not applied and when I tried to ask for it, I was denied and told that was the price. Then the Store Manager named Yolanda, called my cellular and was very unprofessional and rude will not let me talk and explain she just denied the offer I was promised and told that since I did not understand the issue, she just said by and hanged up on me. I was there today making a purchase. Apparently one of my items was missing a tag. The cashier tells me that the tag is missing, moves it to the side and rings up the other items. The stores are clean well organized and have a great variety of products. The staff is very friendly and helpful when you can get a hold of them because they're very short staffed mostly cashiers ringing up the line of customers. Areas for improvement: They are trying to start selling on the Internet but have not made any infrastructure improvements to help out customers in receiving their product. When trying to confirm product pick up at the store from the website order. Did not answer the phone in any store department. I tried 8 different departments. When I did show up to the Hayward JCPenney store the product was there people were friendly and the line didn't take more than about 20 minutes. read more

This is an updated review for the Portrait Studio. The staff were really friendly and patient with our babies (NB & 3yo) but we're not too happy with their purchasing options. We used the Groupon which was fine but we wanted to purchase additional digital images since there's more than 3 photos we liked but the guy assisting us said we can only buy additional digital images if we buy the whole digital album for $99, we can't buy them individually. That's disappointing because we didn't want all 16 photos, we just wanted 3 additional to the 3 free with the Groupon. So even though we liked the staff, we probably won't use jcpenny portraits in the future. read more

Stopped in on today at the Jewelry Department. There was one female customer there being helped by the CSR. The CSR never made any verbal acknowledgement of our presence for 15 minutes to half an hour after being there, she hadn't acknowledged us when we exited by her after the female had completed her business making no purchases! I went here today and the cashier asked me if I wanted to open a credit card account which I said yes. I entered all my information and since the cashier was poorly trained, she did not know how to complete the credit card application process. So, I ended up having to re input my information and was told that I would get a letter in the mail. So I had waited in line for 20 mins for no reason. Kind of a waste of time. I'm surprised that I haven't reviewed this location before. Anyway, my wife and I went here on Saturday. This review is largely based on our visit to the furniture department. Memorial Day Sale: A $4,000 4-piece sectional was on sale for $1,999.99. We didn't need a chaise, and so we saved over $700 more. With tax, a delivery charge of $125, and the cost of the Protection Plan ($199.99), our total was $1765.92. I'm not going to give her name, but our associate was both good and bad. She was friendly and helpful, but she left us waiting for about an hour. It also took over 25 minutes to ring our purchases up (the sectional had to be ordered online). My wife made up her mind within a few minutes (the sectional stood out to me right away too, but nothing in the furniture department really blew me away). Before we could purchase the sectional, though, the associate had to help another couple (a number of people were interested in the curtains and drapes in the area- a couple who had their puppy with them soon left after they learned that 2 customers were ahead of them). She told us that she would be done in 15 minutes. Our associate checked on us after about 15 minutes, but she didn't say that she was done helping the couple (she was). She assumed that we were testing out the sectional, and so she left us alone. After that, she thought that we were going to come to her. The associate was busy on the phone. After that, she was running around a little. Anyway, we gave her too much space, and she did the same with us. "You're kidding me.": Time was an issue, and so I was furious when the associate realized that she had left us waiting around for nothing. I walked around for a little while. The associate knew that I left to "cool down." The associate basically thanked us for being nice and polite. Some other customers have been "rude" to her. I'm not surprised (the associate moves around quickly, but otherwise comes across as slow to me). George, the manager, was dressed in red. He checked on us twice (I was just killing time in the area the second time). Another associate also checked on us. Our associate got 2 things wrong (the first mistake was a "good" one). She said that we would be taxed on the delivery charge, but the $125 is tax free. We were told that the Full Replacement Plan (it's a 5-year plan) would be $139.99, but it was really $199.99. If this was revealed earlier, I would have been more firm in telling my wife no. On the plus side, if the plan isn't used after 5 years, you can get the money back in the form of a gift card (if we need to, I can only hope that securing the gift card will be easy). The furniture department is almost separate from the rest of the store. I was quite comfortable there overall (I glared at a lazy mofo who was obviously just around to lounge), and I enjoyed the songs that were played. Home: The section is impressive as a whole (a pizza cutter stood out to me, as well as some Samsonite luggage- the material was different than what I've seen before). There's a solid selection of washers and dryers. We bought a set of nice frying pans for only $42.24 (they were $120, but we saved because of a sale and a coupon). Good hours: Sun 11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Mon-Sat 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Some reviewers have had bad experiences, but the cashiers that I've seen have been friendly and quick. The escalators are narrow. If you're huge, you might get stuck (I'm just keeping it real). It's easier to find the men's restroom now. I like how the sink is, but the restroom is small and crappy. The paper towel dispenser wasn't working well on Saturday, but at least a paper towel roll was around. Levi's: The department stands out because of a neon sign. Anyway, the jeans are organized well, and there's a good selection. The jeans that I've purchased have been around $40. At Kohl's, I typically have to pay $55 for a pair. Kids: There's a small selection of toys (on Saturday I briefly played with an action figure that plays sayings- at least two of the figures didn't work). There's also a small selection of clothes for babies and toddlers. The selection of clothes for kids 5 and up is solid (my wife bought some cool T-shirts 9 months ago). Sports: Some Warriors apparel is sold here. I haven't seen any clothing for other teams (ex: the A's; Giants). The jewelry department is a little cramped, but my wife has received good service. They're not always in plain sight, but there's a great selection of ties. The small Sephora store that's inside is pretty popular. The clothing for women could be better. My wife never goes here for clothes. The store is old and a bit cluttered, but it's kept clean. There are 3 customer service desks.
