We used to be a country. A proper country. Now, I watch YouTube videos of 80s mall footage to fall asleep. JCPenney belongs among these time capsules. And I'm not saying that to be shady. The fact is, malls are dying. Keeping a legacy store open like Penneys requires a lot of gumption - and a little less inventory to make it work. I usually have great luck shopping their site and having it delivered free to the store for pickup, fwiw. Still, it was The Night Before A Trip and we needed odds and ends and Penneys in-store shopping came through bigly. My mom got a super cute plus size puffer coat - we LOVE when stores carry plus sizes in store. And I got a pair of silver loafers that are show stoppers. $24 versus the $100+ other retailers were charging. And in true anachronistic fashion, my mom also picked up a pair of black tights - plus size at that. Kind of incredible honestly. I'm not mad at it. The employees were super nice, too. read more

I'm going to quote the movie Deadpool for my whole experience with my Fiance here. "What the Shitt?!" From beginning to end, this experience was a Nightmare. My Fiance is starting her new job soon, so she was looking for a Lunch box she could bring for herself to work. Mistake #1: We went to JCPenny's intead of Walmart. When looking for the department that would have a lunchbox for us, we made Mistake #2: We stayed. When we finally made it to the home department, we took a look and noticed the lunchboxes; But I should really first mention that this place looks like it was hit with Black Friday. Notice today's date. They actually have no excuse to look like the shitt show that they are. But I digress, the we continued to shop here. When looking at the signage, there was a big sign saying that everything was at a discount price of 12.96 (Or something along those lines) and my fiance goes to find a bag she likes. We bring it up to the counter and wait in the blob they call a line. (Turns out it was one of the managers just literally hanging around at the counter, continually talking to the staff and not doing jack shitt.) We ring up the bag and notice something. It was 32 dollars for a Fucking lunch bag. So we told the girl ringing up to hold up, and said that the sign said differently. We then had to DIRECT her to the location of the lunch boxes, to have her tell us "OH I'll get this fixed." She walks over without telling us to follow her, so we followed her over to make sure nothing shady was gonna happen. We get to the counter, her "manager" tells her the correct price of 22 dollars, for a lunchbox changes the amount, and gives us the receipt without giving us a chance to let them know we're not paying for a 22 dollar lunch box. The manager that's hanging around at the counter proceeds to say something snide and subtle, preventing her from letting us report anything. Worst JCPenny's ever. The employee's look like they hate it there, the place is a shitt hole, and ruins the JCPenny Name. Come here if you wanna get cheated, lied too, and taken in for a sucker! read more

At the north corner of the EB mall you'll find JCPenneys. Still bringing your fashion needs without breaking the bank. Strafford dress shirts rule. The perfect level of durability at a great price. So the wash and fold service at the cleaners will work just fine without the need to dry clean. My business wardrobe must consist of over 70 straight or traditional collared (I despise seeing a tie under a button down collar) different color and design dress shirts accrued throughout the years at around $29. I love that special elastic collar button allowing for a pleasantly snug yet remarkably comfortable look and feel provided by some of them. What an amazing invention, I wish I thought of it. Just perfect for when certain gents mature and increase the neck line a lil. Offered up in athletic cut and extra long sleeve length for us biggins. Unfortunately a limited selection of extra long ties for the vertically astute to accompany said shirts. Speaking of formal wear, I've been able to poach a few nice suits from time to time under the $200 range. Not necessarily an every day wearer, but a great accompaniment to your larger formal attire. Tons of under wear options whether it be boxers or briefs or my fav boxer/ briefs. Just as many brand t-shirts both white and colored including crew and veck for the 90's man. I'm not as fond of the shoes, but worthy of of look see. I share the rest of that sentiment regarding the rest of the fashion debt both guys and dolls. It's ok. The jewelery dept.- please no. The furniture and kids sections up stairs are also another area waiting for savings to be had. You can even find appliances. So the moniker is savings if you haven't guessed. And yes I'm exclusively biased when it comes to the men's dress shirt dept. So under wear to suits, they cloth ya at reasonable fashion sense and of course price, baby. read more

This is a review on customer service alone. Haven't been to this jcpenny in awhile so I got kind of lost looking for the shoe department. Asked the man behind the customer service counter where the shoe department was because I was looking for shoe laces. His response was not helpful at all. He answered that they don't carry any (without looking it up) and that I should just go to the dollar store. Not giving up, I circled the store, found the shoe department and found shoe laces hanging by the checkout shelf. While checking out I brought up my experience at the customer service desk with the man. Which he rudely answered that the store is huge and there's no way he knows what other department carries. What appalling attitude! That's no way to treat a customer. What's the point of having a customer service desk without helping the customer. Needless to say I won't be returning. (Just to prove my point I re-enacted the same at Macy's and was treated totally different. Oh well I guess you get what you pay for) read more

I actually do like JCPenney because it has a great variety of items at great prices. But, I found my experience today less than satisfying. I needed to get a gift for my friend. I can't remember exactly what I ended up buying, but when I asked one of the employees in the customer service where the item that I needed is, she said upstairs. I got upstairs, couldn't find the item, and ask customer service again. The customer service upstairs said that what I needed was downstairs. I later just go back down, later maybe after a half hour, find what I am looking for. This place is really going downhill, and the main problem I have with anchor stores, is that they are so big, and hard to navigate, that it gets a little overwhelming! It takes me forever to find what I need in stores like this. Maybe I should have come to somewhere that wasn't in the mall. Also the sections I was shopping in were highly disorganized - hard to tell sale vs. non sale items. Staff unhelpful in helping me find what I was looking for. I used to really like Penney's. Always looked well stocked and actually had stuff I liked. Prices were always good too. With their current situation and constant changing of CEO's, the store has gone steadily downhill. they remodeled many of the stores which now look barren in comparison to earlier days. The merchandise leaves much to be desired. Go in one around Christmas time. I've seen more Christmas decorations on a synagogue than they have in their store!! We bought a 3 piece suit for my fiancé to wear on our wedding day, and we would have been lost without Ralph! Forget Men's Warehouse, they wanted $350 just for the suit (which wasn't as fitted, and the seams were coming apart!) And we got the whole suit plus shirt, tie, and shoes AT JC Penney for $200! The price was perfect, the suit is exquisite, and Ralph is the man to see!! read more

The store was packed with shoppers tonight but they only had one staff per department. The grey haired woman in home goods left the line for 10 minutes. When she came back I asked her for help finding a certain item. She rolled her eyes at me and gave me a snarky attitude, basically saying "sorry can't help you."
