If you walk into JCPenney, you'll notice that the racks are far apart and there's a lot of empty floor space....it kind of reminds me when I worked at Miller and Rhoads back in the day and when we were going out of business and the racks kept shrinking and the floor space seemed to grow! But....what's weird here is that when we came looking for some clothes, they had a selection that rivaled Macy's and Old Navy (where we also went that day) and we ended up buying more stuff here than anywhere else. That's definitely a positive...it's nice to see they're still stocking the store, at least in men's wear. The mall has already lost Sears and Lord & Taylor, so it would be sad to see another anchor close. On the less positive side, it's hard to find people who work here. There are centralized cash registers and the cashiers really can't leave that area because they have to ring up customers. I've been in the store twice in recent memory and have never seen an associate on the floor. For me, that's not a big deal but for others who might need assistance, it's a drawback. It's clear they're trying to cut costs by keeping staffing to a bare minimum but I think they might be able to boost sales if they had sales people on the floor. If you need some men's clothes, this is a decent option in Danbury. read more

With low overall rating reviews, this review covers the layout and my walkthrough. Most of the items I found here seemed to be low in inventory, which isn't too surprising with retail today. I'm sure at one point years back, there was a lot more. The selections had quite a variety, with many brands that rang a bell and some others not. The men's department carried quite a decent amount which I was pretty thrilled with. I found myself checking some items one by one. For killing time, you can't go wrong with doing that. The number of employees found on the sales floor is crazy, none to be found with many at the register. It would be awesome to see an improvement with more staffing, for those who need assistance. I came on here to give Hanna one of the employees from the beauty section a compliment. She was sooo patient and helped me pick out two perfumes that smelled amazing, it's so sad that they have great employees but treat them badly . For example when I first walked in one the employees told me that they're has been no air conditioning for the past two months ... TWO MONTHS ??? Got my hair done at JC PENNY salon Thursday. When I tell you that I was so disappointed. I asked for a dark burgundy hair color and what I received was a bright blood orange hair color. Not only did my hair feel super dry but it looked so damaged. That whenever I brushed it Chunks of hair fell out. The hairstylist was nice I can't complain. But I was disappointed that I paid so much money to in the end come out with poorly done hair. I got my hair redone at the salon in the mall where this jc Penny salon is located today (Sunday) And I highly recommend them instead. I went there today and my hairstylist was not only nice but the price was extremely reasonable and I finally was able to get the color I wanted. read more

I would like to thank Ashley she is a wonderful diligent employee. I went to make a return, the young man who tried to start the return was not properly trained. I had everything organized, he starts pulling things out of the bag mixing up the shipping receipts. ( this was not my first JCPenney return). The other employee was rude & inept to him and us. She was busy talking to her friend and supposed to be upstairs in another department. We kept asking them to call for assistance. The young man was flustered, obviously did not know what to do. The other employee was rude and sarcastic to him and us. Ashley came over, took control of the situation. Advised the young lady to go to her department upstairs. Had the young man help the other mouthy customer. She reorganized and processed our return, quickly and efficiently. I have been a JCPenney customer my entire life this was the most bizarre situation. The young man was confused and the young lady did not want to get caught downstairs out of her department but wanted to continue talking to her friend. This is a review for the portrait studio at JCP. Nick and his crew were amazing from start to finish. I drove over 2 hours to this location because it was the closest to where we were located at the moment. Albeit a crazy day, the young lady at the check in counter worked some magic. I had a several hour wait, but that was no problem because I was able to browse the mall, see the Big Guy and then head back to the studio. We waited less than 20 minutes after our appointment time, and the photographer came out to greet us. She was remarkable. She had a great demeanor and helped a toddler smile, remain calm and take the most stunning photos. I wish I remembered her name. Nick was sitting at the front, helped us pick the digital package and because of an upcoming service obligation related travel, he gifted my family a rush order of our photos since we will be overseas. Nick, I cannot thank you enough for your support of military families and all that they have to endure. It is human care and customer care like this that make people life long customers. Your attentiveness, amidst a CRAZZZY work day, and your heartfelt compassion are still something that I will carry with me forever. Came in here looking for swimsuits & found some tops on sale that seemed to reflect the new me. Happy that when I checked in on Foursquare later & was to get a discount, the guy who helped me happily gave me that refund on my item. When I came back later to buy a swimsuit top I liked (since it matched the bottoms of a swimsuit I bought elsewhere), he even gave me that discount again after forgetting in the second transaction! The store is very clean but it's very much a do it yourself endeavor. They hide the dressing rooms & I was concerned no one was going to ring up my merchandise it's so abandoned at JcPenney these days (a far cry from when I worked there in the late '90s & management was pestering us to approach people the second they walked into our section). I like doing it myself most of the time, though so no worries here. read more

This review applies to the Portrait Studio at the JC Penny at the Danbury Fair Mall. One word to remember from this review. "Alex". She was amazing and my wife and I loved every picture she took of our kids. We had book the last session of the day so we wouldn't have to worry about being rushed. The problem was out of the 8 sessions booked that day with Alex, 5 of them were seriously late and this caused a huge backup. Not Alex's fault and she dealt with it in grace. Add on to that this Sunday was her first day back after maternity leave, she was working alone and didn't have time for a single break. She was a complete wonder woman and we can't thank her enough for showing my kids through pcitures how amazing they can be.. read more

Truly miserable experience at JCPenney Portraits in Danbury, CT today. NEVER AGAIN. I arrived 15 minutes before our scheduled appointment with my husband and toddler in tow and was "checked in" by one of the high school students working at reception. About 30 minutes later, I asked for an estimate of when we'd have our photos taken. I'm then told that we "weren't checked in properly" and the next available appointment is an hour later. And they are running behind, so make that ~90 minutes later. The orIginal high school student corroborates that he remembers checking us in. They still won't budge and say there's "nothing they can do." You're really going to make my toddler wait a full two hours from the time we arrived because YOU made a mistake? I demand to be seen next, noting the number of people who arrived after us and have already had their photos taken. They say they can't "bump other customers." But somehow it's ok to bump us by over an hour?? Then they suggest I ask EVERYONE PRESENT if it's ok for us to have our photos taken before them. I did it. Greeted with silence, which sounds like consent to me. I also asked to speak with a manager (none present, of course).F-bomb dropped at this point, as they continue to state that there is "nothing they can do" and they are "trying their best." We finally concede, RAGING through the non-portrait part of the store. Managed to get a $30 gift card from the first competent employee we encountered. SORRY HENRY. NO FAMILY PHOTOS THIS YEAR. read more

Jc Penny portraits was our first experience as new parents. I have not been there ever it was my first time in the store and was not surprised at all. The place was so hot I had to have my baby in a diaper. I was sweating just from standing. The dressing room walls were filthy need painting and the place should be better organize. The girl that helped us was so nice and patient while taking the pictures but as soon as I told her we didn't want the most expensive package her deminer changed and wanted nothing to do with us. When needed to change the baby diaper i went to the restroom that has no changing table!!!! The rest of the store was nice and organize but left filthy and unwelcoming to parents with babies. read more

Had Christmas card photos taken here with a 1pm appointment. Despite this they said they are an hour behind and asked my family to leave and come back at 2pm and said there would be no wait. I asked "Are you sure? We could just wait." They reassured me "no wait at 2:00pm" STUPID ME. I came back at 1:50pm ready to go and they said it would be another 40 minutes. I reminded him what he said 50 minutes ago and he said since we weren't here they "gave up our spot." We waited Because My Wife. When we finally got to go almost 2 hours after our appointment, the camera woman and the older lady who help designed the card were actually quite lovely. Terrible experience with Jcpenney Portraits last week. Waited over 2 hours to have our pictures taken despite arriving 15 mins before our appointment. Staff is very unprofessional. We were told to come back in an hour to be told to wait another 45 minutes. This is with a 2 year old toddler! My cards are supposed to be ready today and since I live over 30 minutes away I called to see if they have them. They couldn't confirm if they are there because they haven't unbox yet and they are busy so they don't know when they will unbox. Are you freaking kidding me? This place is a complete joke! Today I went in to get Christmas pictures at the portrait studio with a 10 month old celebrating first Christmas. While taking pictures my 10 month old was crying and sad. I tried to make her stop and be happy and she wouldn't stop. The lady told us that there was only 15 minutes to take pictures but on the website it didn't say anything such. She wouldn't stop crying and the lady couldn't give us anymore time and made us leave and we had to go somewhere else to get pictures for a 10 month old. great prices. you can't beat their 'every day low prices'. with that said, my experience was not so pleasant. i was shopping for women's size clothing. nothing in their clearance racks were where they belong. and nothing was on the correct hanger. entering the fitting room was an experience all in itself. WHAT A MESS!!! every room was full to the gills of tried on clothes and the go back racks were loaded with clothes as well. i went into a handicap room bc i had my daughter in her stroller. all 3 hooks for the hangers were FULL. just an overall disaster. read more

This JCPenny portrait studio is the worst!!!! My 9 month old son was the happiest baby during the "photo shoot" that lasted about 8 minutes. The photographer took a total of 11 photos for us to review, all of which were missing the Christmas props!!! They were literally cut out of the frame because she was too zoomed in!! There was no support other than you can wait to have them redone, when we were already there for an hour. There are clearly no qualifications to be a photographer there and it is absolutely absurd what took place!! Save your time and go somewhere else! read more

We went to the photo studio on 4/5/18 to take family pictures. If there was one thing that I could say was not perfect it was the 20 minute wait we had before our scheduled time. (Although the people in front of us did have an infant they were having photos taken). When our turn came our photographer (Nicole) was friendly and attentive. Her suggestions for poses turned out nothing less than "picture perfect" photos. There was one that "wowed" all of us so much that Nicole even asked for a waiver to use it in a company wide contest. For those of you who might think that going to JC Penney is a cheesy place to take your photos, think again. We had an appointment booked for our Christmas cards at the JCPenny Portrait Studio. Upon arrival, we were told that they didn't have us on their schedule, even though my wife showed them the confirmation text on her cell phone. They still would not accommodate us and informed us that we would have to come back another time. The studio was obviously overbooked as there were families waiting all the way outside of their sitting area. It was a huge inconvenience getting our family of four ready for a photo shoot, only to be turned away. I would not recommend anyone risk booking important photos with them. read more

I had the worst experience ever with jcpenny in Danbury, CT today. Unacceptable customer service and I wasn't letting it go until it was solved. I went to sephora in this store to return a cosmetic product I got two weeks ago. The powder wasn't damaged and cracked. I had no receipt and no packaging to it because when I got it I thought of no issues until I started seeing how too delicate it was to have for the amount I spent which was 26$. I knew I could return it without receipt because my purchase was in the system and purchased with my jcpenny CC. The Sephora employee told me I could not return with receipt but I kindly spoke to her stating that I could and she didn't know how. (She was new.) So I kindly asked for her manager. A jcpenny manager named Brad came in and I was starting to explain my situation and he immediately with a strong attitude told me that no returns can be made without a receipt. I explained to him that there is a way because this has happened before. He kept talking over me strongly repeating that I can not do the return without the receipt. I asked for a Sephora manager and he said " I am the manager of this whole store and you need the receipt." The way he spoke to me was terrible and I knew he was wrong. He then told me that there was a manager in tomorrow morning and I asked for her name. Which he said "it's Erica but she'll tell you the same thing." I was so upset with how he was speaking to me I started walking away but then came back after a few steps out and told him that I don't appreciate you talking to me the way he did and I will talk with the Sephora manager. He clapped his hands together and continued to talk over me saying "Listen to me, listen to me, Let me talk" I said to him excuse me I'm not going to let you finish and I don't have to listen to you. I walked away and called Sephora customer immediately to explain what was happening. I spoke with a rep named Isabella and exactly what I knew was that I COULD make a return. They had my account information and purchase in there system & I had valid I.D. She reported this store for this incident to her manager and validated that I could make the return without issue. I was still in the parking lot so I went right back to the store and asked for the manager. I was on the phone with Sephora the entire time. Brad came out and I said to him. I am on the line with Sephora and they would like to speak to you. I passed the phone and had it on speaker. Brad started walking away with my phone and I followed him every step because idk why the hell hes walking away. Basically passed my phone back and said "I GUESS I COULD DO THE RETURN."..... & he did the return and I got my money back in my JCPENNY CC. I am so upset about his treatment. I told him during the transaction that I am so upset with how you handled this and I feel disrespected. Brad said I don't think I disrespected you. I told him that's what YOU think but I am the customer. I didn't speak to him through the rest of the transaction and kept my calm. Sephora was still on the line listening and made sure I was taken care of. I did not get an apology just an explanation of how he did not know and his hands were tied. I'm out of words with how this was handled. A manager should never speak to their customers in this way and should find every possible way to assure something positive out of a situation or a simply I'm not sure but I'm willing to help attitude. I will be taking this to corporate with jcpenny, I will be writing a letter and will be calling Sephora store manager Erica who will be there tomorrow morning to give her a heads up. Unacceptable service. What a shame. Mind you I spent an hour taking care of this on my own. read more

This is to complain about the JCP.COM process into the Danbury store. Placed an order on 08/20 and received e-mail on 08/28 that order had arrived. Upon arrival, order was incomplete and when representative went to re-order, item was out of stock. As JCP has specialty items, if they can't deliver on these goods, they shouldn't sell them! What made things interesting is that it took FOUR phone calls to reach a supervisor using JCP's 800 #. I was educated during this process as one would assume you're calling corporate offices, when the woman on the other end of the 800 # indicated she worked in appliances... I'm not being petty, but long time customer here, and this was not a good experience. I will give credit to Sarah at the Danbury store itself who made an attempt to find out why my item wasn't shipped. read more

We ordered and paid for a new stove and range hood. We were told the range hood wouldn't be available in stainless steel for two weeks, so we decided to wait it out for the two weeks so they could deliver and INSTALL BOTH items. We were told by the salesman that the hood range installation was free, so we only needed to pay for installation of the stove itself. Good deal,.... we thought! Well, two weeks later, the deliver people came to deliver the stove and range hood. One of the men came into my home, looked at the stove and range hood that needed to be replaced and with a terrible attitude said, " we can install the stove, but not the range hood". When I asked why, he threw up his hands in a fret and said " we are not allowed to touch anything electronic". NIce to know after we waited TWO weeks purposely because we wanted the range hood of our choice to be available. The question is WHY DIDN'T JCPENNY TELL US THIS WHEN WE ORDERED IT??????? So they FALSELY advertise FREE INSTALLATION for the range hood, but the reality is that there is NO INSTALLATION for the range hood. They wont tell you this when you place the order, they are so anxious to make a sale that they withhold important information. Furthermore, they lied to me about the return policy. I was told I could return an appliance within 14 business days without incurring any kind of penalty. This too is false. BOTTOM LINE HERE IS FOR ALL OF YOU CONSUMERS OUT THERE WANTING TO PURCHASE A MAJOR APPLIANCE, DONT BUY IT AT JCPENNY. THEY ARE VERY DISHONEST!!!!! read more

The customer service is outstanding to say the least. I left my purchase from another store in the dressing room and didn't realize it until I was home (1.5 hrs away). A customer service representative named Carole offered to drive her personal car 1/2 way to meet me!! When I refused to let her do such a thing on her own time with her own gas, she offered to mail it to me. In 2 days I had my purchases as promised. I have NEVER in my life had such personal service from any store. read more
