A shoutout to Alex who bent over backwards to make the best out of a bad situation and succeeded. I ordered a guitar from the website. The guitar was listed as being in "great" condition. However when it arrived it was unplayable. There were too many things wrong with it to go into detail here. I went into the Danbury store with the guitar and brought my wife just to make sure that I could keep myself in check. Alex found the shortest path between the two points of "I just paid $500.00 for a bass that is beaten up and does not work when plugged in" and "Were going to get you a bass in your price range that you're going to be happy with" . I wish I could give this a better review. I will start off by saying that Jake was an absolute rockstar and without him my wedding probably would've fallen apart, so I'm very thankful for him. But the reality of it was that we had paid for a rental package for my wedding that included a wireless handheld mic, a stand for the mic, 2-12 in speakers, stands for the speakers, and the necessary cords. The day of pickup (the day before the wedding-per the rental agreement) they helped put the items into my car and we drove home to set up for the wedding. When we get home and started setting everything up, we noticed they did not include the stands for the speakers, they gave us a body pack mic (which isn't what we paid for nor is it feasible for a wedding with speeches and a ceremony with multiple people speaking) and the mic didn't even work since the inside was corroded. After realizing we didn't have most of what we needed we called the store and luckily for us Jake answered. He came all the way to our home at 10pm with everything we were missing, including the correct mic and made sure everything worked properly before he left. I cannot begin to explain how grateful I am for him and what he did to correct the problem. Unfortunately, the day after the wedding and dropping off our rentals the person who assisted us had no interest in helping us bring the rentals back into the store. We had no idea where to leave them and they were clearly frustrated that we had asked for their help. My husband cannot lift anything due to doctor's orders so I needed help and to be met with the employee's frustration after everything we had dealt with this business was just so disheartening. Overall, I just wish there was some better communication throughout the store. Everything just felt disorganized and it was obvious from the beginning. As someone who also works in customer service, I hate to even leave this review but the amount of stress this caused us was overwhelming. But I do want to give another shoutout to Jake because he really made it happen for us, and I will always be so grateful for him. read more

I bought a traktor controller online and couldn't figure it out at all. Called the Danbury store and was so lucky to have Matt answer the phone. This guy was amazing! i took the controller to the store and he worked it out with me in like 5 minutes. Aft that he spent some time with me and basically it was like a free lesson. Horrible online order experience. I had ordered an acoustic guitar online from this location that was supposed to arrived at guitar center in orange, Ca on October 14th. I didn't receive any email updates so decided to call the this store directly. They told me there were no bubble wraps available for them to ship my guitar out. Why would you even openly tell a customer that. This was one or two days before my arrival date. I asked if they were able to go to a nearby store to purchase the bubble wraps and the response was "they do not have a budget for it" and that corporate had to approve. I called back on Friday the 17th and they said the wraps finally came in, but ups will not be able to pick it up on time. When I first talked to them, they had promised express shipping. I had an email notifying that ups had just picked it up today 10-20-25, but stated it won't get here until Friday the 24th. I checked the details and it was regular ground shipping instead of express. The unprofessionalism at this store is beyond disappointing. They could've reached out at least to explain the situation on the delation in the first place.Then they had the nerves to just bluntly say there's not bubble wrap. Then promised express shipping that was not kept. Mind you I had already paid shipping for this item, which I don't mind. But why even lie to a customer just to try to make up for the situation and not follow through. I am now about to miss my second guitar class that I had already paid for as well. It's not like music dudes can really help it. You know what I'm talking about, ladies. That weird attitude you may encounter when female-identifying and you gotta enter a Man's Domain. Music stores. Comic books/video games stores. God forbid you need work done on your car. Are you feeling me? So I wanted to buy a bass. Look, I'm no wilting flower, but I'm also a beginner and I had that icky feeling about going into a place and being kind of clueless and looking to my husband like some pathetic helpless female (I never normally feel that way, believe me). Yeah, I guess I have a bit of a hang-up here. My experience at this Guitar Center was actually really good. Years ago when I owned something of a music venue I used to have to pick up things like mics and cables at the one in Lower Manhattan and was always impressed by how nice the dudes were who worked there. And my experience was pretty seamless. I had picked out the bass I wanted beforehand and voila, there it was in stock (a benefit of shopping at a major chain. As much as I want to support our local music store and we DO support it, they didn't have much in stock). I tested her out... their expert tuner tuned her up for us and in less than 15 minutes we were out with new bass, stand and case in hand. Prices are fair. Plenty of people in there testing instruments out as they normally do in such places. Obviously guitars are their main sellers here, but you can find other instruments as well, just not a huge selection. All of this got me thinking, though. Maybe I should open my own damn music store and market to women. In the meantime, I have no problem shopping here. read more

Last week I wrote a negative review of the Paramus, NJ Guitar Center. A few days ago, I ordered a new guitar from Guitar Center online that was shipped to the Danbury store. I just picked up the new guitar today! My experience in this store was fantastic. I worked with Tommy, Dylan and the guitar tech when picking up the guitar. They are pleasant, knowledgable, and make you feel at home. Guitar players love to talk shop and these guys love it as well. The guitar tech even took time to make a slight adjustment to the neck of my new Music Man guitar. I've been going to this store for years, and when I have a music need, I will always go to Guitar Center in Danbury. The corporate powers at Guitar Center should make this their premier store in the New York/New Jersey area and make sure they send the very best musical equipment to this store. read more

I went to the Danbury store to buy my daughter her very first electric guitar, as the review says they're super good. I didn't go to the Orange store because of some bad reviews even though it is closer to me. However, I needed to return an accessory so I went to the Orange store. And, the staff member was super super nice and patient, and of course very knowledgeable. And you got to visit the store! It's like a treasure cave. At first I heard some sounds and thought people were having a class there. The staff told me it's just some kids and young people playing around with the instruments. I saw some true musicians coming in and out (well based on their attire lol). But then it turned out they do offer class there! The price is very affordable based on the brochure. I am so glad that I asked. I would love to go back and visit with my kid having class there. read more

Terrible experience! I ordered a guitar that I found online. Called and talked to someone there about the particular guitar. He'd put me on hold as he would check things on the guitar that I would ask about. He said the guitar played beautifully. After paying a small fortune I received the guitar a week later. Unbox it....tuned it...or tried as I come to find that every string is all fret buzz and one of the strings is completely dead. Literally sitting on the fret board. I basically really like used and vintage gear. Seldom do I buy new pieces, but it happens as well. This is a much a smaller store than I'm used to. Sometimes, the selection is very nice because there are a few pieces that are just wonderful (and sell very fast). Other times, all I see is undesirable student-grade pieces that "nobody wants," to be nice about it. With the pandemic, they're actually stocked up much better than many stores. So, I just always keep looking, be ready... overall, store is better than average. But, all bricks/mortar shops are getting more and more student-oriented... I think the 35 and older crowd knows what that means (BFD, who cares)... good luck. read more

I just went into guitar center in Danbury CT. Not to sound pompous but I spend a good amount of money in the store. But the service I received today was awful. There we just sales people sitting on the sales counter and talking doing nothing. I have purchased at least 4 amps heads ect...and 6-8 guitars here as well as all the other stuff. I would avoid this place unless Mike the guy with the long hair is working. The rest of sales people could care less. I truly felt like I was out of place and did not want to buy there. As if it was a hang out for the sales people. There a few that are good people there but it's hot or miss. Truly disappointed as I had money to spend and decided to save it for when Mike is there or just go elsewhere. I don't think anyone from the store will take this with any value, probably just brush it off. But if loyal customers continue to walk out or new customers feel the service is inattentive they won't return. Too bad. Ian read more

Sorry but some of the service people are not trained on what they are selling they are completely off. This is why I don't go to guitar center anymore, they were great when they first came around. They have no high end stuff just junk, they sell you instruments that are not even setup correctly. This store is not for the working musicians. read more

I am so thankful to the team here! I had a remote recording session on hold waiting for my set up to work properly as some of my equipment stopped working out of nowhere. TJ and the gang were phenomenal. Cracking jokes the whole time to keep what was a very stressful situation for me light. I'm SO grateful to report these guys got me fully up and running and out the door in time to wrap up production tonight. I dropped a guitar off last Sunday (3/15) to have some repairs done. I was told that it would take about a week to be complete and that they would call me when it was ready to be picked up. A week passed, and I did not receive a call. I called the store-- no answer. Now, it is Tuesday (3/24) and Connecticut businesses are shut down due to COVID-19. I normally would be more understanding of the store in this case, but it is ridiculously unprofessional to not reach out. Even if the store was closing early due to COVID-19, they should have called to inform me of the situation. Now, I neither have my guitar, nor any indication of how far in the future I will be able to retrieve it. read more

Poor selection of almost everything compared to every other music store around. Sometimes interesting used gear comes in, but the new gear is the same, all the time. An under-trained/under-paid sales staff which is constantly rotating because the company pays and treats employees badly. No experts in this store. Understaffed, I. E. can't find anyone when the store is super busy, or one associate will be totally swamped, while a manager sits in the small room in the front gazing at his computer. Why don't you come out and help bro? Why is there no department separation like every other GC? Someone hits a crash symbol, or juices a guitar amp and everyone in the store is deaf for 5 minutes. It's a guitar store, I get that it's going to be loud at times, aren't departments their to mitigate this? In the famous words of The Simpsons comic book guy, "Worst guitar store ever!!!!" read more

Chris , the guitar tech that took 5 classes on how to become a tech. You know this is not something only learned but something you enjoy and love. Chris has no idea what the hell he is doing. His recommendations are so off the wall. A good tech should be able to steer you in the right direction string wise. I asked him if he would adjust the action on my Martin , he said no problem, when i came to pick it up he had done nothing. He even put the wrong strings on a store brand. I took my guitar after paying 65.00 and went to a local guitar store where the tech lowered my action and put on the strings i wanted. At one time they had a couple of pretty good techs there. Ive spoken to the manager who said they cant find anyone because of $$ . I know for sure this guy is losing that store a lot of money. I have 6 guitars but i would never step into that place again. read more

Took my daughter here Saturday November 12, 2016 because she wanted to buy herself a ukulele. Every staff member was super friendly letting us know they could help when we needed. I get a guy and ask if they have this certain ukulele in stock. He says yes and goes to the back to get it for us. Meantime another staff member asked if we needed anything and I told him we are interested in a stand for it. He didn't see any on the shelf but checked the computer and said they were getting some in in a week. He asked if I wanted to be called when it came in, I said no thanks that we would call and or just come back and see. Original staff member came out with ukulele and rang us up. He asked if we were able to locate the stand and I told him no but we were helped and one is coming in a week. He also recommended the next time we come in to look into getting a tuner for her ukulele which was nice that he wasn't pushy about getting it now. He also gave me his card and informed me they gic guitar lessons which is great bc my 8 year old is super excited and wants to take lessons. We will definitely return! read more

I am teaching my children to play the guitar during our isolation for Covid -19. I ordered some strings and picks. Not a huge order but it's my first from guitar center as I usually shop local with a family owned business near me. But they are closed and do not have an online presence. The items I purchase did not arrive however the email guitar center sent showed that it was left at my front door 3 days ago. I emailed guitar center with no reply and today I called the customer service line where I spent 30 mins waiting for the associate to figure out what to do. On my receipt the correct shipping address appeared but when I spoke to the CS associate apparently they have a different address?? When she finally received a message back from her supervisor, I would have to wait until they did and investigation before they would return or replace my order. Are you serious!!!! I have been at home for two weeks with elementary school age children and our guitar is missing two strings. I have already payed for three months of online lessons and guitar center can't send the strings I need to the correct address. So now guitar center has lost 3 new clients. Me and my two children who if I had a good experience would have been customers for ever. But I guess guitar center is willing to loose customers over a $20 order when all there stores are closed and we are all at home ordering online!! Empower your people to do the right thing!! Make a decision to make a customer happy!! Train your people who are customer facing to be the best they can and loose the word no from there vocabulary!! read more

I was at the guitar center in Danbury ct. today, with my 8 year old niece. First of all . I couldn't see the better guitars, 15 feet up on racks.. So I had no idea what they had in stock .. The Taylor's that I could reach ,were all locked , 400's up , so I couldn't play them either.. After 15 minutes I tried to get help .. I was told buy a guy with, bright orange hair , that he would be back with a ladder . That didn't happen .. Then came in a guy ,gray hair, with a couple looking for the lower end Taylor's He unlocked the one Taylor 814ce for me.. I said I liked it and I have a 714ce I might trade in for it .. I asked if it was new or used .. He didn't know, said he would check in a little bit.. After showing at least 6 214ce to these people mostly from stock room and over, one and a hour's of talking his lines to this couple,maybe buying a guitar for there son.. There were several people wanting to ask questions and wanting to look at guitars but no help and not to mention this guy had three cheap (214's) guitars and soft cases on the floor in this tiny room .. Every one had left pretty quickly, that came into the room because of crowed room and no help .. Still , no one has helped or talked to me in over an hour .. I'm sure after,gray hair, confusing this couple with all of his sales pitches for 214ce Taylors that they left and said well think about it . So ... No sale, to me and no sales at all for an hour and a half of gray hair sales work.. Lol read more

I'm the guy who wrote about the store associate who I described as a pimply fat kid named John. Well, other side of the spectrum, I just had a couple experiences at the Danbury GC buying a mandolin, and worked with Rich. Rich is helpful, super friendly, and easy to work with and talk to. He's knowledgeable and smart on the things he knows about, and if he isn't knowledgeable on a topic can and does find you someone who is. Short of that is very open about what he knows and what he doesn't, and is then conversational, offering what expertise he does have and giving what feels like real opinions and counsel to help you make a decision in your buying process. It was like making a buying decision with a buddy, rather than a salesman. You can't ask for more than that. He went above and beyond making sure my buying experience was a positive one, helping with returns, discounts, processing, etc., and we had a really good time doing it, as well. Sure, there are bigger stores, and bigger Guitar Centers in CT. What Rich does is finds that happy place where you get the feel of a small town local store and the pricing and buying power of a mega-chain like GC. As I said, you can't ask for more than that. read more

I am writing an update to my first review. As this is the largest guitar store in Danbury, it is an important resource for guitar players, even if it isn't your main store. So, I have two stand out employees that have made my subsequent visits and business with this store much better than my initial experiences when the store opened: 1) The assistant store manager: his first name is Mark and he is absolutely outstanding. He is patient, knowledgeable and exactly the kind of person you'd hope to work with in a store like this. The store still has problems but with a guy like this, I am sure they will get worked out. My experience with him multiple times has been terrific. 2) The guitar tech: guy named Zack. Same deal - 100% outstanding, stand up guy. Huge huge help with my Martin Guitar. Artfully handled me and another customer (that was very smart and quite disgruntled). I also met another employee in the store: Nick. Good guy, wouldn't hesitate to make a guitar purchase from him (less experience with him then the first two though). All told, the store is still too small however it has some outstanding people and they do have a well architect-ed learning area. Is it as nice as the Guitar Center in Seattle, WA or even Orange, CT? Well, not really. But is it nice for a neighborhood guitar store? Sure. Just keep staffing with people like Mark, Zack and Nick and the store will easily be at 4 stars. Expand it another 5000 feet and we can talk about 5 stars. read more

I have purchased from this store countless times. My son has gotten four different guitars from this store. However, the Friday before Christmas of (2018 ) was the last time I was and ever will walk in that store again. I was running around all night trying to get my Christmas shopping done. I finally got to guitar center. Walked in 15 min before they closed. There was one customer in the store that was being helped. I walked up to the guy behind the counter that was not doing anything and said "My son plays guitar and I was just wondering if maybe you can show me something interesting or different that I wouldn't think of or know about to give him for Christmas" he said "we have lots of interesting things and you have 13 minutes to look." Not moving from his spot. I was surprised by his response and got the message loud and clear that he wasn't going to help me, so I left. I understand being at the end of your shift and wanting to leave but that was just rude. I will not be going back there again. read more

The biggest problem with this store is the lack of real expertise that professionals need in sorting through options. If I'm buying pa speakers, for instance, I want to talk to a pro audio guy, not a guitar player. Anyway, it's convenient for me when in the area, but I much prefer a knowledgeable staff.
