For some reason, I have found myself using JC Penny's specialty departments a lot recently. From pictures, to the Salon, I have been here a few times over the last few months. Can't really say it was on purpose either... Regardless, I have been satisfied on every occasion.
My daughter has been due for a haircut. We had originally planned to go two weekends ago; buuuut then that whole 30+ inches snow storm thing happened. Needless to say, we did not get out ...er ...um ... couldn't get out even if we wanted to. Then the week after, Yelp Harrisburg had its AMAZING Brunch Event at Home 231! So, my daughter's hair remained uncut. Finally, I was able to find time this past weekend on a daughter-daddy date day!
Store/Salon: The store is situated in the Cap City Mall in Camp Hill. In terms of location, it delivers in the regard that is conveniently located in the area. The store is nice, big, and has relatively good selection. For me, I am not much of a JCP shopper, which is why it has surprised me that I have found myself here so many times recently. Maybe I am turning into my mother! Ah!
Anyway, the primary reason for my visit was the salon. Walking in, the salon has an 'uppity' feel to it. Somewhere a fancy lady would go to get a 'perm' or something. I usually frequent places such as Great Clips, Super Cuts or (my personal favorite) Sports Clips - although not the one in Mechanicsburg. This salon had a definitively different feel to it. Not necessarily in a bad way, but it did feel a bit 'stuffy' in terms of demeanor and attitude.

Service: The lady who cut my daughter's hair was older, and also had an 'uppity' sort of vibe to her. Very proper and not very animated. For someone who is cutting a child's hair, I would have appreciated a little bit more interaction ... maybe even a smile ... or something that acknowledged that she was excited to get her haircut. Her service felt like a mausoleum ... cold and barebones. That said, at the end of the haircut my daughter made a comment how the hair was in her face a bit, and so the lady simply but a little braid in it. She did so without asking. I don't know if I appreciate it, or don't. My daughter seemed to like it though, so I suppose that goes into the 'appreciated' column.

Price: A kid's haircut is currently $14. That is a little steeper than I like to pay, but this cut was more out of convenience than pre-meditation. We were already in the mall, we entered through JCP, and the salon was on our left. So, I decided to stop in all whilst thinking, 'If this is less than $15, this is where we'll get her hair cut.' It was less than $15, and thus we stayed. Overall, the hair dresser did nothing that someone from Super Cuts, or any other hair-place couldn't have handled for less. So, unless you are getting something fancy for your kid, I don't see any reason to come here.

Final Thoughts: For a hair-cutting experience, it met expectation. Overall, like I said, there is nothing that differentiated JCP Salon from anywhere else in the area - with regard to a kid's haircut. I don't think that I would actively go out of my way to come back. I will most likely repeat what happened on this occasion next time as well. That is, wherever we are when she needs a haircut is where she will get one J read more
