My wife had to pick out a few outfits for a funeral she needed to attend. She picked out a few things and headed to the fitting room. There is only one women's fitting room in this store. As we made our way into the fitting room there was an announcement that the fitting rooms will be closing at 7:00 PM Store closes at 9:00 PM! The sales woman & manager practically threw my wife out of the fitting room! Rude as all hell. I figured they would just let us finish. They wanted her out NOW! In my opinion this store is terrible their customer service skills SUCK! The shoe department is like a tornado hit it. Shoes thrown all over the place. This place has the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER! Who cares about the way this place looks and how modern and clean and new it is when the Customer service is absolutely disgusting and unprofessional! I came back here to do my christmas photos with the groupon again. However, the groupon changed to 36 cards so I brought two. I didn't know that you couldn't use two groupons in one sitting. So I had to pay extra for more cards. The whole process this time was not as enjoyable as the other years. In 2021 and 2022, my experiences were quick and easy. This year in 2023, I had a different experience. The groupon deals are cheap and the photographer did an amazing job with my family. However, the other staff was extremely unprofessional. They were in pjs and sweatpants in a photo department like what?! I went to check in and the young Spanish guy just said to sit down and he didn't even let me pick what backgrounds I wanted. I had to go to the front desk after waiting for 45 mins to select my backgrounds. Then they finally called us to take photos. I dont think he actually checked us in because people who came after us were being called in. Would I return back to this JcPenney for photos? No, unfortunately the professionalism of this location is down the drain now. The management needs to reevaluate their staff. The only pros was the photographer was nice and they had cute props/backgrounds. Also, they have ample parking and it is very affordable. Also, it has 2 weeks to get your cards. This review is way overdue! I was so angry during the time at this happens. I never wrote the review. But here it is. I went to JCPenney on Christmas Eve 2023 for last-minute gifts for my family. The things that I've always loved about JCPenney is the variety and I knew that I could find what I was looking for. After strolling around the store for about an hour, filling up my cart , making decisions about what I would buy. I got online for check out. I preface this by saying that most of the shopping that I've been doing has been online. The convenience of it showing up to your door is really convenient. But I went to the store that I needed these items and nothing that I could order arrive on time. Also didn't know that sturdy bags would not be available. I spent almost $400 of clothing and other accessories which required bags to be able to transport out of the store and home to my house. The cashier mentioned that bags would be either five or $.10 each and asked how many I would want. I told her as many as was needed to get the items into the bags folded the items placed into the bags and paid for the purchase to pick up the bags, each one ripped and the harder I tried to grip the bags the more they ripped. Needless to say it was a frustrating and embarrassing scene with me with tons of customers also waiting to do their last-minute shopping waiting for me to get out of the way. I asked if they were larger bags. I asked if they had plastic bags to which I was told by the cashier, no. So I did the best I could with these seven paper, thin bags with clothing and accessories in them and moved out of the way I was able to get the bags into a shopping cart and try to take the shopping cart out of the door. I didn't know you couldn't take them out of the store. They actually have an alarm, so I took the bags for a second time out of the cart. I placed the items and torn bags on the floor and call the family member to see her on what I should do. There were no disposable bags for purchase, kind of like the plastic bags that you can get in most places. The safety, the security guard came over to me, seeing my frustration, and offered an empathetic word acknowledging that the quality of the back should've been better and he wish that he could've helped. I asked him if there was a manager that was around that could help me and he looked around for him at some point someone that looked managerial walked by pointed at me on the floor with these bags and question what I was doing. No point to attempt to offer a solution! I ended up going back to the cashier, I explained the situation, and asked is there anyway there were any garbage bags perhaps that I could use. I noticed behind her. There was a box of clear plastic bags for garbage garbage can liners. She looked at me and said no I can't give you those. I said with the amount of money that I just spent in the store, I should be able to carry the items out of the store. I believe she noticed my frustrated home and she handed me about 10 bags. I walk back to my items on the floor and attempted to put that I purchased into these clear bags once again the bags broke it took a lot of knots rearranging the items in order to make it work to pick me up and went home. In retrospect, I should've taken all the items brought them back to the cashier and requested a refund. The lack of regard the lack of concern the lack of care was unacceptable. It was the day before Christmas and I left feeling terrible that I even came to the store. I haven't been back. I will never go back. And I hope whoever reads this doesn't waste their time going to the store. Do better JC Penney! read more

The store is the usual JCP; it has a return center with separate lines for store and online purchases. I came here on a Sunday morning and the store was empty. Lines were short; no waiting. My grandmother and I made a trip to this location just yesterday in the hopes of picking up some comforter sets, towels and maybe shop around for some other things while we were there. She gets the booklet in the mail to notify her of the sales and that woman LOVES a sale! She saw that they were having $39.99 comforter sets for black friday, but wasn't sure if the sale would be extended after since we had spent time away for the holiday. Well, we go browsing and we find two separate comforter sets listed at $49.99, all sizes and pick up two, one for her and one for myself. I'll post a photo so you all can see. We make it to the register and the cashier shares with us that they are $79.99 each and I tell her that that is not what the sign said where we found them. She calls over her manager I assume and she goes to check for herself. She comes back with a sign that states "$49.99 for twin/twinXL and 79.99 for queen, 89.99 for king" saying that this is why it's priced that way. I told her that's not the sign that we saw and walk back to the section myself to show her what we are talking about. I take a picture and I also bring the sign with me to the register to show her and when I get there the first thing she says to me is "what are you doing with my signs?" with an elevated tone. I say to her that I am not trying to argue, just sharing with you what we saw and I also showed her the picture I took to show where we found the comforter because she then said "where did you find this sign?". I told her that we would not have picked up these comforters if they weren't listed at the single price because we came here for that sale and my grandmother reiterated the same thing that I said. The woman, EBONY, was very rude and didn't try to help us at all and instead continued to raise her voice about the signs and said "it's $79.99 take it or leave it" VERY RUDELY! I work in retail myself as a manager and I know that if signage is posted incorrectly it's not the customers fault and we have to honor that! Also, she didn't care about the picture or anything we had to say, she was more upset over the sign and being proved wrong than wanting to help us. Very bad customer service I think especially considering I ALSO DO THIS for a living. EBONY doesn't need to be in the position that she is in if she isn't willing to have a calm conversation with customers. My grandma shared with me after that she was also making snide remarks when I had walked away and I just do not appreciate that as a shopper. And they also don't answer their phones as I tried to call and complain many times. I'm not one to usually do this but I seriously do not appreciate the unnecessary rudeness from someone like EBONY! I ordered a shirt on JCPENNY website on a Thursday and a delivery date of the following Tuesday. On Saturday, 2 days later I look up status to show an order date 2 days later (that same Saturday). JCPENNY didn't send me a notification about it resulting in the delivery being well past the original delivery date (3+ days more). I call to cancel the order yet Luis says I can only cancel order 30 mins after my order was placed. Even though JCPENNY's records reflect a order date the same date as my call (Saturday), they couldn't honor my request. This is not the first time JCPENNY has lied to attract customers. WARNING Do Not Shop here!!!Went to this store and had to wait a very long time on line. The cashier was super friendly and I thought that was cool and wasn't so annoyed about the wait. But then a few days later found out that someone over at JC Penny took my info and attempted to charge $8000 worth of merchandise!!!! They got a credit increase and charged away. I honestly have grown to love JCPENNY as their clothing selection has gotten alot better. I came today, on a Friday, driving from downtown bk (took about 1.5 hrs with traffic) arrived about 6:45pm hoping to find some work pants. All fitting rooms "close at 7:03pm" according to a staff member once I had 8 pairs of pants in my hands hoping to try them on. I confirmed with her that the store closes at 9..... if the store is open for another 2 HOURS, fitting rooms need to be open as well, at least u til 8:15/8:30. Very disappointing. read more

I went into the store before 7 pm, and wanted to try on a couple of outfits around 7:15pm. However, all the fitting rooms were closed. The cashier informed me the dressing rooms closed at 7 pm, but the store stayed open until 9 pm. I was told to come back earlier if I want to try on outfits. This is a large, newish JCPenney. It's all one level just spread out. I come here whenever I'm heading to Aldi for my usual grocery run. They have a nice kids section that I peruse whenever I see they are having a sale because I can usually buy lots of shirts and pants for $2.97 to $4.99 and it's good quality and lasts my son a long time. I've also bought from their homewares sections and while I won't buy this particular pot set again, I will continue to shop there as they also give you coupons at the register without asking. The bathroom is located towards the back on the right hand side of the store, directly next to JCPenney Optical. Whomever is in charge of the restrooms needs to actively check that there is soap in the dispensers. That was an uncomfortable experience realizing I should also bring my own soap in addition to hand sanitizer which only cleans so much. Other than that, the stalls themselves were clean and they have a baby changing station. Good for parents like me to know. I mainly came here because it's also stroller friendly and unlike the Queens Center location, I can just push him in the stroller from section to section and not jostle anyone or anything. The lines can get long here but they usually have registers open all over the floor and the merchandise is in disarray about 3 hours of being open but honestly, it's retail and is to be expected with such a big store. Finally, we don't have to go all the way out to Roosevelt Field! My mom LOVES JC Penny. She was depressed when they discontinued the catalogs and told her she had to shop online. My mom is 68 and stuck in her ways, she's not going to learn how to shop online, hell she refuses to learn how to check her voicemail on her iPhone! When we walked in the security guard was very nice and greeted us. The first place we stopped was Sephora. Finally I don't have to go all the way to the city! Found my favorite perfume that I've been looking for for ages. Then we walked around the perimeter of the store. She found some stuff, I found some stuff. She had a 10 minute conversation with the associate in the curtain section Threatened to beat up another associate trying to leave for the day, you know typical old people shit. While walking around this associate in bedding greeted us. He saw the Sephora bag in the cart. Him: "Hey ladies, I see you bought some makeup." Me: "No, it's just perfume." Him: "I see you guys are into that natural look, keep it up." Me: "Yeah, I'm too lazy for makeup anyway." Not gonna lie he was kind of creepy. Appreciate the compliment though. They need to make the aisles in-between the clothes bigger. Kept having to leave the shopping cart behind because it didn't fit. No one in the shoes department asked us if we needed help, they were too busy trying on shoes for themselves & having their own conversation. The cashiers were very nice and pleasant too. This bldg has that big store feeling as soon as you walk in. Located in a newer expansion of the Gateway Center shopping complex. The store was clean and well stocked. Staff were seen busy working on the floor in each department I visited. However ..... as other reviewers have mentioned, the checkout area is a disaster. (Check off 2 stars for that.) I was number 37 in line on this day and obviously the line was not moving fast. A supervisor was called to one of the cashiers to help with a return and it was only then that this supervisor became aware that they were shorthanded and called for help. read more

The shoes department at JC penny Gateway mall is horrible. I went to the store for on August 9th around 4:15pm. The person working the registers was very unprofessional. He was cashing out coworkers not working causing a delay in the line. Making change for $100 dollar bills, Laughing, taking their sweet time. The coworkers who wasn't working, was trying to get the guy on the register to apply their 20% discount. Since the coworkers didn't have their ID.l, They were touching the screen trying to apply the discount. I spoke up saying can we speed this up. The registers guys told me to go to the other register at the front. Knowing it's long. I got even more frustrated and patiently waiting. This event should not have happened. I placed an order online to be picked up in store, my order was shipped on 11/29 and delivered on 12/6 and signed by Jennifer, I contacted the store on 12/11 to know the status ... I was hung up on twice. I decided to take a trip to the store today 12/15, I was told by an employee that there was no status of it being delivered although I showed him the tracking info, how supervisor came to "help" but all she did was say that I was wrong b.c when it says delivered that it means it left the warehouse, I was mind blown!! In my calm and yet still nice voice I explained that it was not the case as I always order online and for anyone who has their head on straight they know that delivered means that it's there. It's also a new location and the workers were all eager to help or try to get you to apply for a credit card. However they weren't pushy about it. If you don't mind waiting an excessive amount of time only to be told that if you don't like it you can leave, then it's fine. I get that they were overbooked, but whose fault is that. What bothered me the most was that the two women working there were trying to blame the photographer, saying that he was taking too long. What I guess they did NOT understand was that when children are forced to wait an excessive period of time to take their photos they get cranky, making the photographer's job more difficult. read more

Because I work in retail, I always try hard to be super nice and not give any employee a hard time, because I know what it likes like to be on the other side.
