I was "injured" the last time I was here. Possible hearing loss. Let me preface that I have been here a couple times by recommendation of a friend and I really wanted to like this place: cheap haircuts, beats going to Sport Clips etc for $30. I didn't mind any language barriers or that it was cash only. The last time I was here on 6/23 and it will be my last, I got "injured" due to the powerful compressed air they shoot out of a nozzle to clean the clippings off of you. Some reviews here rave about this compressed air they use. I was neutral about that -- they don't use blow dryers. That's ok, whatever gets the job done was fine with me. However. this last time the lady blow this powerful jet of air into my right ear and it hurt, but was fleeting. I didn't think much of it and I didn't complain to her. Even gave her a tip. It's now been more than 2 weeks and this ear has issues: I can hear ringing when the room is quiet, sometimes it hurts, sometimes there's the feeling of pressure. It's hurting now a bit now as I write this. I'm going to see a ear doctor and check if there's hearing loss and whether it's permanent or not. Not sure what to think or what to do about it. Did I deserve it for a coming to cheap haircut place? read more

This place is good if you're looking for a cheap and fast cut. Women operated for the most part, love that. They have a bathroom too I believe, more of an older audience really but seems pretty diverse. Cash only but they do have an atm present. I must say, definitely feel way more appreciative of someone who takes pride in their work after this experience though. Please stress exactly how you want your hair cut/styled as some of the employees may be somewhat incompetent of your cut preferences. Nothing fancy either but I'm unsure why you are cutting Anything other than the area that someone has requested be cut..?? I've been supportive of this place because it's down the street and for quite awhile now, only recently started experiencing this issue. Service was great. The establishment is spotless. Very nice vibe and location. The price says $13 which can be deceiving. If you get a fade or a short haircut they charge $3 extra dollars. Which is every men's haircut at a barbershop. Oh well!! So it's $16 for a haircut which is still not bad. read more

Was in the plaza to drop off some dry cleaning, and husband needed a haircut. His usual guy is out of town and the $13 haircut sign caught his eye. Before I knew it he was getting seated. The lady who cut his hair did a pretty good job. The sides were nice and even. She seemed very careful and detail-oriented. She spoke English and was friendly and easy to talk to. We had a good experience, but it could be one of those "luck of the draw" places where it really matters who ends up cutting your hair. $13 for a men's cut - cash only. read more

Would give zero if I could. The ladies in the new staff there don't understand English I guess, they just butchered the hair. Very clearly I asked for 1.5 inch, not 1....and she confirmed it. Generally 0.5 inch length is not a day and night difference, however it does when it's a boy's hair, leave it longer if you are confused, don't mess with it. If things change in the future, I'll be sure to update this. I just got my first haircut here about an hour ago. Obviously I was intrigued by their $8 haircuts sign. For this price it's very hard to find a decent barber. For the past 20+ years of my life, I've gone to only two or three barbers in LA, now that I've relocated to OC I'm glad I found a barber for the future years to come. Don't get me wrong, I've giving this 5 stars for what I like...not the price. Some of you metro/trendier guys out there may need something "more' than this. This is not a salon, and they are not "stylists" . They are just old school barbers. I got my usual fade (1) and 1/2' off the top. There was no fuss, just buzz and snip in about 10 minutes. Just the way I like it. I've got a few friends who pay $50-$75 for a haircut, they call-in days ahead to make appointments. And they always wonder why they are the butt of all gay jokes. The barbers are really nice, friendly and has a good sense of humor. They talk about current events, life and whatnot.....not celebrity gossip and music like some fancier places. read more

To those who want a semi stylish hair cut, just ask the ladies who work there to give you the hair cut and not go to the guy in the last barber chair. Unfortunately we were in a hurry, so dropped my son here for a haircut. How many awful things can I say? Made fun of my teenage son, didn't listen to his requests, teased him for asking what the different blade lengths were. Aside from obviously not being even close to the cut he asked for, it is sloppy and very uneven. Avoid this shop. Again, avoid this shop. Positives: Cheap haircut for just 10 USD for men and 12-15 USD for woman, done it pretty quick overall. Negatives: Sometimes queue can be very long so it's better to cut it in the morning before lunch time. But this lady today didn't really cut the way I wanted; I was saying that please cut it a little shorter, but she didn't cut as short as I wanted. No big deal for me sure, however I hoped that she could have cut it a bit shorter. read more

I love this barbershop! I've been coming here off and on for about a year now and it's become my regular place every three to four weeks. Depending what time of the day you go there could be a wait, but it will never be longer than 15 or 20 minutes. The sign doesn't lie it's $8 for a hair cut. There's about five different barbers on site, and I've had my hair cut by every one of them I think. I have nothing bad to say. They all do solid work and do exactly what you want. You're always greeted warmly and they have some hilarious signs on the walls inside. I've seen a lot of kids (boys) go in with their fathers so it is kid friendly too. read more

Raised the price to $10. No big deal right? Wrong.. Barbers let their friends cut in line so you'll be waiting what seems like forever. You get in the chair and they're more focused on talking sports than how you want your hair. Don't get me wrong, I love a good sports talk as an avid basketball enthusiast, but keep it somewhat professional. I give them two stars instead of one in pity. All of the barbers are professional and fully licensed. The prices for their professional services are beyond reasonable, and are in fact a great deal. If you don't want to wait in a que for a cut, go on a weekday. That's when William B goes to get serviced. The weekends often include far too many cretins waiting for their turn in the chair for a trim. Most smell offensively, and some look as if they might be visiting from the morgue. If you want to be treated as a regular, remember to tip. Finally, parking is just okay (William B sometimes struggles to find a parking space for his mobile). Just to add to Brad's comment, when I first walked in the store, I was a little uncomfortable, esp coz of the signs on the wall. The place is really old school. The signs were mostly about etiquette, respect for parents etc. or funny "Keep your Children leashed at all times" or "No Whining" or something like, "Unattended Children will be sold as slaves". I said to myself, its just me.. Maybe the place isn't all that weird until I saw the "Mexifornia ID", with a Mexican with mustache and Sombrero, and a cross instead of signature (implying that Mexicans are illiterate)... Anyways, a middle aged lady cut my hair. She was nice. Small talk. No disrespect. Guess I got lucky, and got away unscathed... For 8 bucks, this place is ok, if you just want your hair buzzed... Who are these people expecting some sort of Beverly Hills beauty salon type environment for a place advertising $9 haircuts? If you want that, go elsewhere. I've been coming here since the 90s, and I've never seen line-cutting, favoritism, rudeness, or any of that nonsense. The barbers will chat with you if you chat with them, and they're perfectly friendly. If you don't chat, they won't. Simple as that. Forced conversation is for awkward dates. If you know what you want, they'll cut your hair just fine. I've even told them to cut how they see fit based on work or a date the next day or something, and I've only had one time in all the years where I didn't like what they did. A basic haircut will always be $9, and if you want more, just look at the board or better yet, ask. I've been coming here for over a year to get my hair cut. I'm reading through the reviews and see a lot of really positive or really negative reviews, and I can see why people are so one sided. Here's my take: Here are the positives: It's cheap. $10 for the haircut - it's hard to beat the price (unless you go to a $9 haircut place, duh). No-nonsense barbers. If you just want your hair cut and don't want to chat about the weather or the football game, this is a good place to go. If you want to chat, that's fine, too. I hear some other chatty customers. But the barbers won't force you to smalltalk. They are fast. I've been in and out of the place in less than 20 minutes. The woman is super fast and does a good job. So even if there is a line of people waiting, you probably won't have to wait too long. It's near the Original Taco factory so you can walk over and get a burrito after you're done. And for the "downside" As I said before, the barbers are no-nonsense folks, many of whom were military guys. Sometimes their manner is abrupt. So that means to either have thick skin, or don't do anything weird that will cause them to call you out on your behavior. Honestly sometimes I feel a bit uncomfortable when I hear the barbers say semi-rude things to some of the people waiting in line or standing in the doorway. Service is fast they have 5 chairs. I walked in with three people ahead of me and was able to get in in 3 min. The cut took about 5min and cost was just $8. The location has poor parking, but the barbers are nice enough. They will turn you away if you come in with product in your hair as they are using clipper and the product will gunk up the equipment. I came in here a few months ago and wanted to get my haircut. I had long hair and was very effy about getting a haircut because i haven't gotten one in such a long time. so i go in and there two people, one bigger dude and some older white lady. I go to the bigger dude and asked for my hair short and spiky, i also showed him a photo. he did a good job at the time but when i went home and showered and spiked my hair, one side of the back of my head was longer then thee other..... JB's is a neighborhood barbershop that does quick standard cuts on men and boys for $9. It's a fun place to get a haircut. I go on Saturday morning and everyone is smiling and laughing. If I'm over there and I don't need a haircut, I go in just to see whats happening. The barbers include everyone in their conversations and they are super cool. But, if ya hang on the door asking the group of barbers whether they do a certain haircut in a certain way, while they're busy, before you'll step inside, you might hear some, "How about we rent you the scissors for $5?", type comments. Which is the whole point of this place. It's the neighborhood barber! I ask for a shave every time I go in. They won't do it, but it gets them joking around and that's really what I pay for. I can get a cheaper cut in Santa Ana, but the jokes are in Spanish and I don't speak Spanish. No one cuts the line. These are old school guys that wouldn't put up with it. But, some people get their hair cut by certain barbers, so there will be open chairs while someone's waiting for one barber or another. I've gone to the same person for ten years, so I wait for him even when there's open chairs. But, I've gotten cuts from all the others for one reason or another over the years and they're all fine. There's no cigars or dirty magazines. You can bring your boys to get their "ears lowered" and never hear an unkind word. It's one of the last neighborhood barbershops. read more

I would suggest asking for simple cuts and tell them every request up front before they ever start. then once you're home have your scissors ready to touch up stray hairs on top and sides.
