This is what 240.00 including tip gets you, 2 barely filled in and crooked letters! Went back after it healed to get a touch up and this is the result of the touch up.. Maybe went to the wrong artist, either way 240. for 2 small letters that look like this is a RIP Off! I have larger pieces that are 10yrs old that still look great and that I only paid a few dollars more for. They will say that it's placement(fingers) but I know people with finger tattoos that have solid ink, they even have pics of finger tattoos on their page that look solid. Maybe next time a bigger needle would be better to actually drive the ink and get some coverage. Highly disappointing. Gave it 2 stars because the artist was nice but for the shop to not want to finish the job without further fees is horse manure. So I'm expected to pay, what, 300+ for 2 small letters!? Lesson learned, go somewhere that is recommended by someone and where they'll actually stand by the work they're putting out regardless of the size of the piece. read more

I've never gotten tattooed here, but I have gotten almost all my piercings done here by their piercer Kevin. They recently remodeled the shop (still a work in progress), and it feels so much more open and wonderful in there. Before there was an awkward wall hiding the artists from the world and the piercing station was up front and personal behind the front counter. They've taken the dividing wall down and really opened up the space. I really like the way it feels when you walk in. Kevin (the piercer) is wonderful! Keeps his station super clean and he's really knowledgeable. He's also very approachable, and I've never felt uncomfortable asking him questions. Overall he's a very professional, comfortable piercer and he does his best to keep you comfortable and informed with your decisions! I've also talked to a few of the artists (when they weren't busy of course). All of them seem super friendly and approachable. I haven't looked at their art (because I've always been there for piercings rather than tattoos) but I feel like good customer service makes getting tattoos/piercings a significantly better experience so in the future I would consider one of these artists for a tattoo if their art fit the concept. I got to the shop at 5:30, but the door's locked and the lights are off - it seems Raul forgot about me and the appointment we'd made just a few hours before. I can't believe there hasn't been any reviews for this place in awhile! Should have posted this sooner, in fact I just set up a Yelp account because I was so happy with my 3rd experience at Jay's. Back when I was 18 (about 5 years ago), I got my first tat ever from Jay's, a nice tribal hawk on my shoulder. In fact I forget exactly who from the shop did my first, but it was an awesome experience. Walked in, showed a design, they drew it up, tatted it on, and it looked great. Then about 2 years ago, I came back to Jay's for my 2nd tat. This time, I remember "Mike" doing this one for me. It was my own design, turntables and music notes and an old school microphone, drums etc., just all music related. Got it directly over my heart. Again, didn't hurt much, they made it enjoyable, and this one turned out even better. Then months ago I got another tat from a friend from another tat shop. It was cool, but I knew I wanted to get another tat from Jay's, only because I love the experience of that shop. Just laid back, no one judges you. You want a tattoo, so you go to a tattoo shop. I've heard the stories from other tat shops, eeek... Anyway, this 3rd tat from Jay's I got the other day (4th total on my body), it was very special to me. I spent hours on a special design of a pocket watch/clock, some abstract/semi-detailed drip marks coming from the clock, turning into a face, yeah... there was a LOT that went in to it. I brought it in, talked with I believe Kevin who directed me to Nunu (he walked in a minute after me, and I had gotten there right at opening). He looked at my design, said it was right up the alley of Raul, another great tat artist from their shop, so when Raul came in (he handled walk-ins today), he went to town on this. He took my design, re-drew it so that it wouldn't look weird on my body (he had some very sweet additions to my design), put the design on my calf, and started tatting the back of my leg (calf) as I lay on the table. The entire time, there was good music, cool people, TV on in the background where the couches are, Raul told me I could take a break whenever I needed it. We both took 1 break directly in the middle for about 3 minutes, and then he went back to town with the shading and detail, and long story short, a couple hours later I had the most realistic looking clock on my calf, the roman numeral numbers were intact, the circle(s) were perfect (which if you've gotten many tats before or seen lots done before, you know the only thing harder to tattoo than a straight line is a CIRCLE). All in all, for 3 tats on my body, I got them from Jay's, and each was from a different tattoo artist, and I love them all. This most recent one I got the other day is now my favorite, and I think it's going to be my favorite for awhile. Thank you Jay, Kevin, Mike, Nunu, Raul, and everyone else I've met and talked with from Jay's Fine Line. Good people, good times, good tats. When getting a tattoo, that's all you can ask for. Please note that this review is based on an experience I had in 2006. The employee situation could have changed since then. I also cannot review this place in terms of their tattooing because I only got a piercing. I went to Jay's Fine Line to get my belly button pierced three years ago. The place is under a freeway overpass and just looks downright sketchy. The inside is nothing special, looks a little stingy and not exactly welcoming. A navel piercing cost $40, ring included. Seemed fair enough. The guy who did it was unfriendly to say the least. His face was covered in tattoos and he barely said three words to me the entire time. He was rude to my friends and after the piercing, he didn't even offer me any sort of after care advice or cleaning solution. NONE. The piercing got infected and had to be removed about a week and a half later. Thanks guys. I had really bad scar tissue on my navel for a long time after and was unable to get it re-piecred until this past October. I got the piercing done in ATHENS, GREECE and the experience was one million times better. This place was way cooler, way cleaner, and way friendlier. AND the piercer gave me great advice on how to take care of the piercing, including cleaning solution and written out instructions for aftercare. THESE are the kind of things you DESERVE and should EXPECT from a piercing salon. You shouldn't have to go to a foreign country to get it. I'd get your piercing done somewhere else. read more

Its been just a couple years but I was looking for a local tattoo shop one day & I ran across this one... So when I went in at the end of the day, I was waiting to be helped. People who worked there walked by me several times & didn't acknowledge me until maybe about 20mins later! Whatever, nice customer service service! That should have told me to leave right there but I stayed... So finally, when someone helped me, I asked for simple zodiac signs on my both my arms (mine & my son's), maybe about 1"x1" tattoo each. I was quoted about $60. each & thought "ok, that sounds reasonable". I forget the guys name, but he seemed like he didn't want to do my tattoo. No small talk either, he just seemed like he was in a rush because the shop was going to close soon. So, he zipped through both my small, simple tattoos within minutes & TOTALLY FUCKED THEM UP!!!! THEY LOOKED LIKE SHIT!! The lines were messy, not even clean! They looked like a 3yr old drew them on!!!! How do you jack up a SIMPLE SMALL BLACK INK TATTOO???? There was nothing intricate about it, I could have done a better job!!! OMG, I was so upset when I left but still paid for them!! As I left, I was thinking I was gonna cancel the charge with my credit card company but thought I would call the next day & speak with the owner. So when I called to speak to the owner, he heard my story & yelled at his employee. He asked him what happened & it turned out the guy DIDN'T want to do my tattoo & was in a rush to close the shop because he was going out somewhere! WTF!!!!! Anyway, the owner offered to let his guy fix my tat, but I said I NEVER wanted that guy again! So the owner offered to fix it for me because I explained I'm not gonna pay for something jacked up that I now have to have someone else fix!!! When I went in again & met the owner, he apologized & agreed the tattoo looked looked shit. But as he was fixing it, he explained he doesnt normal do this (fix someone elses mistake IN HIS SHOP) nor does he come in for less than $150. tattoo! He made it known that I was inconveniencing him, but he fixed my small, minuscule tat that was very sentimental to me (my son's zodiac sign). Because of the poor service I received, I will NEVER go in this shop again nor will I recommend it to anyone!!!! DON'T GO HERE, PEOPLE!!!!!!! Most of my friend's have all gotten tattoos in San Mateo at Godspeed! They all have had a really nice experience there & awesome detail on their tats! I recommend HIGHLY to save yourself & take a drive to San Mateo or shop around before wasting your money here!!! read more

I've gone to other artists in the past, but a friend of mine reffered me to come here, saying that Jay does some really badass asian art... So I came and checked it out. Yup! It stuck with me. I came in here not really knowing what I wanted-- all I knew what I wanted something to go along with the koi, bamboo cherry blossoms I already had on my forearm from my previous artist. Jay drew up a demon face, cherry blossoms and some flowers-- I loved it! This place is super clean. The environment is professional. They also do peircings here, but no more peircings for nika anymore.. Pricewise, you get what you pay for. When it comes to something so permanent, money should not be the issue. read more

I didn't get a tattoo or piercing here but my brother did. I took him here for his graduation/birthday present. The artist was Nunu... great guy! He has incredible skills. After a couple of sessions, my Brother was impressed. He had a dragon that took up the whole upper part of his arm/shoulder/back. It's great work. This review is based only on my experience with the piercer, Kevin, who did my industrial. This was my first time in a tattoo & piercing shop so I was nervous, but Kev was professional and calm which helped my nerves. He is extremely cautious of sterility and changed his gloves at least 3x during the process of the piercing. He carefully measured and marked the area he was going to pierce and explained the process. The piercing was performed swiftly and without trouble. After fitting the jewelry in, he cleaned my ear which is something I appreciate despite my attempts to inch my ear away because of the pain. In total, I paid $80-- $70 for the piercing and industrial bar plus a $10 tip. While this made my wallet significantly skinnier, it is definitely worth it to shell out a little more for a safe and professional piercing. His website (stuckbykev.com) has all his pricing and I highly recommend going through his site to quell any of your piercing fears! On a side note, cash only so make sure you bring enough. read more
