Came across this establishment on Saturday as we were driving between Glace Bay and New Waterford. I saw the sign advertising Hires Root Beer and couldn't resist pulling in to see if they actually had any. They don't. (Hires Root Beer is only sold in limited areas in the US, and is in competition with A&W Root Beer which comes from the same bottling plant...sad really) However, I went with a root beer float anyway (Dad's root beer, if I recall) and sat out on one of the park benches overlooking the water, enjoying the view. The staff was very friendly, and service was great. I ordered the hot roast beef sandwich, which comes with fries, and carrots and turnips on the side. They were decent and had a decent flavor but I probably won't return based on the lack lustre appearance of the restaurant itself. While there was decent service, there definitely was a language barrier to ordering unfortunately. The pictures online are taken from angles that don't show how outdated this location truly is. The restaurant itself is a mix of 1970's meets 1980's, with exposed wires and cables everywhere. The music was blasting but it brought the restaurant up to a 1990's vibe, as the music definitely wasn't current. The music kept buffering on the tv inappropriately but you could drown your sorrows in the Kleenex (not napkins) boxes on each table.
