What really was the straw that broke the camels back was that on my last visit they said my rotors were low and recommended a replacement (that was not cheap). I was actually pretty surprised by this as I had replaced my rotors (with them) earlier and I expected to get more miles out of them. So either: 1. they sold me poor quality rotors 2. I'm tracking my car and being aggressive on the brakes (nope...its a minivan) 3. I don't actually need rotors Turns out it was #3... I actually got the car up on jack stands after bringing it home, took off the wheels and measured the rotors with a pair of calipers. Plenty of life left.

Suggested replacing them at a convenient time during the next few months, as brake pads were fine. Compared to the relentless upselling I've experienced at Jaguar dealer repair shops, Dan's honesty was a breath of fresh air. He could easily have indicated the necessity for new brake pads and instead honestly recommended a far less expensive sensor replacement. Dan is my go-to Jaguar repair guy going forward.

Rich unfortunately has sold his business so it is no longer him and his dad and brother. I have an…read moreolder BMW X5 with a lot of miles 185K and it stopped one day at a bank. The previous day it had been from NJ to MA and back without incident. So it was a computer/electrical issue. I had to get it flatbed towed to RPM. I told RPM if it was $1000 to $2000 to fix the electrical issue I would fix it but if it got in the $3000 or higher range I would not. After over $300 of diagnostic work Dustin called me up to say they still didn't know what was wrong with it. He mentioned other things like an oil pan leak (had been there for years losing a quart of oil every 3000K -5000K, i.e. between changes) and the transmission support was rusting out. He suggested it was time to look for another car. He offered $800 for it and eventually upped the asking price to $1500 (actually less than $1200 since I still had to pay the diagnostic fee). It did not run so I couldn't get a 2nd opinion without towing it and I trusted Dustin. When I went to empty the car out (before they got it running again) they did not want me taking the cargo mat. It was obvious at that time they were planning to fix the vehicle. After I sold it he told me his mechanic put about $1000 into diagnosing it and got it running and was going to keep it for himself. Dustin is a nice enough guy but it just left a bad taste in my mouth that you trust a mechanic to tell you whether they can fix a car or not and that you make decisions on that. Obvious there is a conflict of interest if the mechanic or employee wants to fix the vehicle and keep it for themselves vs fixing it for the customer. It sets a dangerous precedent that a mechanic can tell a customer it is not worth it to fix a car when they know it is a good vehicle to fix that can be used by them and their family. Whether this conflict of interest happened or not to me, I will never know but you can judge for yourself. I just know I will not be going back to RPM garage since I can no longer trust their recommendations. Rich was great and he deserves to retire, but I miss him.

After assessing the difficulty of the tow (a vehicle without keys, parked on a residential street in-between two other parked cars) they quoted a totally fair and reasonable price. Since, without keys, the vehicle couldn't be moved out of its parking spot in a traditional way, they actually found a neighbor to move their car so the tow truck could get behind our vehicle. This is an incredibly thorough and smart level of service. Once the vehicle was dropped off at its destination, Mr. Hook Towing sent photos to show exactly where it was parked. Then, ini minutes, I was able to pay over the phone and got an emailed receipt. Being that I was out of town when all this happened, you can imagine what a relief it was to receive such thoughtful, professional, and quality service. I'm so glad I called Mr. Hook Towing!
