I am giving Julia Jayne 5 stars because she kept my son from going to prison. It's that simple. He was living in a college town, charged with the most heinous crime a mother could ever imagine, and we were being told by everyone in that town that he was simply going to be found guilty. No one listened to his side of the story -- not the DA, not the local lawyers, and certainly not the judge. It didn't matter that the alleged victim never pressed charges. It didn't matter that there was no physical evidence to back up the charges. It didn't matter that my son had no criminal history whatsoever. The DA was going to make an example out of my son for her own purposes. His life was ending right before my eyes and I felt powerless to help him. We first worked with the local Public Defender. She believed there was no real case, but had such a heavy case load that she couldn't properly defend my son. We then interviewed three local 'top' attorneys who all gave us a very grim outlook, and retained the best of the three. After nine months of fruitless phone calls to him, virtually no communication on the status of the case, and absolutely NO progress, we realized he was not going to help. Despite the large outlay of money, the complete anxiety of the case and it's far reaching implications for my son, and the fact that his life had been in a suspended state for over a year, we decided it was time to find a good attorney. We searched every possible way to find an aggressive, intelligent, fearless attorney who would take the time to understand the case. We found Julia. She listened to my son's side of the story, she read through hundreds of pages of interviews, listened to hours of tape recordings, spent hours with my son, and asked every possible question to try to understand what really happened. She very quickly understood how fraudulent this case was, but also realized how committed to it the D.A. was. She never promised us she could get it dismissed, but she gave us her commitment that she would fight it in the toughest way possible. And she did. During the next few months she went to battle (including using an aggressive, and very smart, investigator) and got ALL the felony charges dismissed. Julia thinks strategically and her skills in negotiating with the prosecution are stellar. Her communication with us was constant and very clear. She responded to our questions immediately and completely. She never made us feel insignificant -- no matter how many times we called on her. She was fearless against a very tough female D.A. She listened to my son and took the time to understand his case. We will forever appreciate Julia for her effort and kindness, and for giving my son his life back. I came to Julia after working with another private attorney that seemed more eager to accept a plea bargain and move on his way. After that experience, Julia was a wonderful change. She was with me every step of the way fighting the criminal justice system that is often too eager to increase their stats than serve justice. When the system is against you, and you know you didn't do what they said, you really do need an advocate and Julia is as good as they come. My case ended up going to trial and I couldn't imagine a scarier experience to go through. Your fate is truly in the hands of 12 strangers. I felt as at ease as I possibly could with the situation, because although she couldn't promise anything, I knew Julia would be prepared and try the case as though it was her own. When the day came, she did just that. She is a great strategist, she was super prepared for trial, and when she gives her opening and closing statements she does it with eloquence, the right amount of emotion, and simple clarity. Her experience teaching Litigation at Hastings became clear when I was in the court room with her. I felt she completely outclassed her DA counterpart. She had more experience and I think it really mattered that she really believed in my case -- no doubt that translated well to the jury. My nightmare ended with a jury decision of not guilty in under an hour after trial. The world is not always a fair place. The American justice system often has motives that are more political than judicial. Unfortunately, good people get caught up in bad situations....sometimes they did it, sometimes they don't, but if you don't have a good attorney the government will have no sympathy for you. The only thing you can do in that situation is find a capable attorney, one that will explore every option before going to trial, but is prepared to go the distance, because often times that is the best route as a defendant and the only time the odds are on your side. I can't speak more highly of Julia. For someone that has spent years battling in the criminal justice system, she hasn't lost her heart for the average person and she will truly be your advocate when it seems like no one else will. read more

I am so thankful to have found Julia to help me in my difficult situation. I never imagined that I would ever need a criminal defense attorney, but life's turns and surprises put me in this very scary world without advance warning. I hired Julia after I had a court-appointed attorney who did not do his job and had reported that I was deported when in reality I was being detained by immigration. I was referred to Julia after I I got a DUI driving back from a company party. I was facing 4 different violations, but managed to get those dropped to one. Julia found a few errors in the arrest report and was able to leverage those during negotiations for a much less severe penalty. I still paid a bit in fines, have mandatory classes, and some community service, but with as high a BAC as I had, I think it's the best possible scenario.
