This is a legend as far as liquor stores go. I was first introduced to this store growing up in Berkeley and it was down the street from our house. So once I bought a home in Bayview and realized that Jay Vee was still going I was excited and had to pay a visit. This is small but has a large selection of liquors, beer and wines. Great business. Great assortment of stuff. Great owners. Guy behind the counter straight vibing and super pleasant. Clientele leaves something to be desired. So there I was, Gatorade in one hand and some chile picante corn nuts in the other. I'm white, but I can handle my spice. I'm second in line. Guy in front of me puts his stuff on the counter and I hear him say: "Jennifer Connelly is the hottest woman alive" I let out an audible chuckle at the sheer stupidity of the comment. Guy spins around and in the most self righteous tone says "excuse me what?" and starts throwing up his spaghetti fingers in an outrage. This man is clearly Italian or Roman...whatever...they're called these days. I say "You're simply incorrect, she's not even top 5, she might barely make top 10, sorry about it." Mr. Gabagool flies off the handle. Self righteousness has been dialed to 11. Spaghetti fingers flying everywhere. You'd have thought I spit in his lasagna or something. For 53 minutes straight he goes on about Jennifer Connelly, naming all of her roles, how's she's a smoke show in every single one, waving his arms and non stop spaghetti fingers. I was exhausted just from watching. At this point my Gatorade is no longer cold so I swap it out, come back, and tell this obnoxious man: "statistically speaking it's possible for you to be correct...just not about this." I then step in front of him, pay for my stuff, and exit. If I never see that guy again I'll have lived a happy life. 10/10 store though. Would visit again. read more

I like this liquor store. I was going to Traders across the street sometimes to get good beer (their selection is small) when I was in a hurry but hadn't been to this place in a long time. Swung by and was very pleasantly surprised by their beer selection. Definitely some good stuff (we are big Revision fans for one and they have fresh Revision). They also have a really good whiskey selection. So whiskey and beer - all good. Definitely a regular here now. read more

The dude at the counter was rude he gave my change back and threw it over the counter n made me pick it up and was looking at me weird the whole time‍ n then once I went outside and opened my water he came outside and called me fat and said I need to leave because im a sight for sore eyes n it's bad for business. The owner is an absolute piece of shit. He came at me and my friends like we were bothering him personally when all we did was walk in talking between one another to buy some water. He raised his voice at us, threatened us, and was just so unnecessarily mean and rude. He even was trying to argue with me when I said there was no reason to be talking to us that way and that is bad for business. I come into this store probably 6 times a year. Nice people, great service! This story is worth telling and reading:) I'm still in disbelief...Today I was reminded that there are still good, honest people out here in the world, even in front of liquor stores, including liquor store owners, and especially this one. Last week on Friday I went into Jay Vee liquors to purchase something. I dropped $120 cash outside the liquor store on my way out and didn't realize it until I got to my next destination. I didn't go back that day because I figured it would be gone. I told my daughter and she said oh well someone got lucky! I just so happen to pass the store today and figured I'd ask. When I told Faiez I dropped $120 cash outside but I figured someone probably took it, he said "I have it!" He handed it to me and I was in complete shock. I looked around like is this a joke?! Lol The Coca Cola delivery guy picked it up and asked the owner Faiez if he had seen me before because he assumed it was mine since it was next to my car when I drove off. I'm so thankful that there are honest people as when I find things that are of value, I'll always turn them in....karma does really pay off. But good people are really hard to find. I've been in there twice, and each time I was treated extremely rudely by (big mustache, tattoos) gentleman who, by all appearances may have just been released from San Quentin state prison-I had coupons for a dollar off American spirit cigarettes, and he did not honor them - the coupons came in previous packs that I had purchased so they were from the manufacturer-his vibe was really rude and hostile-even though it's conveniently nearby to where I visit sometimes I will never go there again, no, thank you I do not want to get ripped off and charge more than the actual price for a pack of cigarettes read more

Jay Vee boasts on it's store window: "large selection of beers". uh, compared to whom? not true. there's a variety of micros, mainstream, but certainly less beers than some safeways. most beers not priced. noticed lots of wines, hard liquors. some wines seem reasonably priced. smokes too. brew: "firestibe double barrel ipa" (3.99+ =4.47) -smooth, tasteless, no fire.... on draught:- -jay vee has a demographic target definitely not on their bullseye. read more

So, usually I don't review these kinds of places, but I just have to say, the guy behind the counter is SUPER nice. Anybody who comes in seems like they know him AND like him. The actual store is a typical liquor store, but they have a lot of product and have a bunch of wine too. Plus, they have your typical cheap liquor as well, but they've got a good variety, one guy I noticed bought this huge bottle of vodka that was flavored with pear onions and olives AND a bottle of cake flavored vodka. Did you hear me? CAKE FLAVORED VODKA. Not a big fan of sweet drinks but I might make an exception to this. I gotta go back and grab me some of this! The reason why I came in this store was to send a fax, and I'm sure i'll be coming here more often to do so. There's no bullshit -make a cover sheet like kinkos and UPS store does, and the fax costs a dollar. Other places cost WAY MORE. No bullshit, no nothing. Just in-fax-out. I like this liquor store for their good selection of wine and beer. However I went there yesterday I was really upset that the woman checking people out was wearing a mask hanging off her face barely covering her mouth and never getting even close to covering her nose. Another gentleman was on the phone talking with no mask at all and the third person had not been wearing his bandanna but pulled it up when I walked in the door so at least he was compliant at the last second. They usually have pretty nice people working and usually have what i need so i definitely would recommend if you need something quick and you're by this check if they have what you need because they have a wide variety of things to buy ! They always have a the new or promotional alcohol drinks. The staff is super friendly. Been coming here since I was in high school. It's a great successful business that doesn't try and nickel and dime you on everything. If your cant find something your looking for they will help you. TEQUILAS. If you are looking for premium unique tequilas that you cannot find at bevmo this is the place to go. Jay Vee has over a dozen selections of unique tequilas and bottles. The owner is very nice and very knowledgeable about tequilas. Prices are a little high but you're paying for the uniqueness of the items. If you're looking for a certain bottle he will try to find it for you. I recommend you visit him if you're looking for good tequilas. read more

Nice, clean place. The workers are wonderful and helpful. I forgot my iphone there and came back a few days later and found it. What I like the most is their selection of tequila. The fancy bottles and good quality is a plus. The guy who works there knows his stuff. read more
