This is a 72,000 square feet building filled with fishing, hunting, camping and hiking equipment, Jays Sporting Goods has the similar layout of Cabela's or Bass Pro but with that hometown mom and pop personal touch feel. Large parking in front and accessable without steps. This morning there was a small bake sale happening that was sweet to see right when we walked in. At the entrance were a variety of kayaks, electric pedal bikes, scooters and gun safes on display. We were greeted kindly when we entered and found our way to the ammunition section. They offer a 10% discount on ammo after 10 boxes. Plus you can mix and match so that helps. We walked away happy with heavy metal shot gun shells. We drove from Livonia on 12-27 to do some shopping after Christmas. We checked the web site for store hours and make the trip out only to find a note on the door saying closed for inclement weather. We drove from Detroit and the roads were fine so really not sure why you were closed. A company that big could update their web site and let people know it is 2025. They have a good selection of merchandise but their customer service is not very good. I am here shopping for a deer blind and I have now asked 4 people for help and each one of the replied with pointing to the Dept I needed help in. I need help in the hunting department but yet when I asked the kid with tattoos in Archery and then the 5 older gentleman working in ammo that would rather sit around chatting like a bunch of school girls than actually help a customer in need of assistance. I understand that In this part of the state you may not have as many choices as we would like, but if I have to take the time it takes to drive here and once here I can not get any real help.... this is why Amazon is doing as well as it is and this is also why store fronts across America have been closing. Bad Experience, purchased 2 guns for hunting trip, only to find out they don't even work, when called to complain, was told "oh yeah those guns have a problem with the barrels" Why couldn't they have told me before I purchased, this caused me a great deal of my time to return and take away from my hunting trip, did receive refund but not the point.....don't sell things that don't work, my annual hunting trip has been very disappointing because of this situation. Our family has been customers of Jay's Sporting Goods for years, with annual family trips up north for summer and winter seasons making many purchases. Will not be back after this experience in the last 2 days. It was all good on purchasing a firearm until it was checkout time. Over an hour. Three checkers and three people ahead of me. Ugh.

Wow, I went here with a problem with my Garmin GPSr and the salesman at the counter did a fine job of researching the problem and finding a solution with the unit. Randy D took care and even called the Garmin help line while I was in the store. We then even took the unit outside with me to determine if the fix really was downloaded onto my unit. Great store. Pleasant, helpful staff. We have been shopping at Jay's for over twenty years. They carry quality merchandise. I am still wearing a coat that I purchased 15 or more years ago. My bedroom slippers from there are on at least their tenth year. I want new ones but the old ones won't wear out! read more

I work in Clare so I go there every so often. It's a sizable store that has everything you could ever need for hunting, fishing, shooting sports, etc. Large selection of merchandise. The prices are quite high though so it's not a place to go to get a deal, but rather to get something that's difficult to find elsewhere. I will say, however, that their gun selection is vast and they are pretty on the mark as far as pricing in that area. Also, even though the gun section feels like a big box retailer like Gander Mountain or Bass Pro, their sales staff is very knowledgeable and treat you more like you would find at a local gun shop. Very nice employees as well and they're always helpful. Overall, good service, great selection, but high prices. read more

Called Jays to place an order for a $1,000.00 hunting rifle that they had in stock but that everyone in California was out of and so were most dealers on the internet. Talked with a sales person to find out what needed to be done to have the rifle shipped to a dealer near my location in California. I was told that I just needed to have the dealer here FAX them a copy of their FFL license. Called my dealer and got everything set up and they faxed the license info. Called Jays back to make sure they had what they needed. The women in charge of the fire arms Department (Jeania, she says it's pronounced GINA) tells me she isn't shipping anything to California, that there are too many hoops for her to jump through. Called my dealer back and let them know what I was told. The dealer here said there is just one form to fill out, it's not like getting a pistol or an assault rifle, that maybe the women at Jays didn't know what I was trying to buy and I should call her back. I called Jays back and explained to the women what I was told, She very rudely said " I'm not shipping anything to California, I have a paper here that says" and she starts reading some regulations for a few seconds then says, "I won't do it, we're not doing it, good bye." I found a dealer in North Carolina, Blue Ridge Outdoor Sports, with excellent service, that is shipping it to me. If you live in California or any where else and just want to avoid a women with an attitude problem then stay away from this place. I also sent an E mail to a department head (archery Dept) that has the same last name as what is shown for the owners (Poet) letting them know about my experience trying to make this purchase. It has been five days since I sent the e mail and I have had no reply. I guess they must be okay with what took place. Maybe this is why they still had something in stock that most of the rest of the USA had sold out of. read more

Jay's ROCKS!! Friendly and knowledgeable people that know their products and stand behind them. I drove 2 1/2 hours to buy a weapon. I called and spoke to a gentleman at the hand gun department and he graciously set it aside for me until I arrived. As soon as I got there the service was outstanding. One very important thing to mention is that Jay's is one of the best prices around! On my way there I stopped at another sporting goods store that was having a sale on the very specific weapon I was looking for. I thought maybe I can save myself a trip and go for it. When the representative checked on the pricing, he realized that there was a mis-print and therefore could not and would not sell it even though it was printed on their sales flyer. Been shopping at Jays for over 25 years on average I spend $4000-$6000 a year last October I placed a Shadow Hunter 6x6 octagon blind in lay a way two weeks later I drove the 150+ miles from my home to pick it up only to find out they had sold it, Blane in game calls spoke to Bill the manager and said they would get one for me then back stepped & said they couldn't I personally called Shadow Hunter they had one left in stock but after I was promised they didn't go but attempted to talk me into something onsite they said if I wanted 5x5's they would take $400 off each, I bought one for my son but myself being older I needed the larger for cross bow use I was told this year I would be taken care of, well next year has arrived so I contacted Bill to purchase what I needed and he responded with a whopping $100.00 discount oh boy what a great guy I just bought my wife a post back surgery ten point cross bow a month ago all said it was $1600.00 I've always been a good repeat customer but after that big discount offer I may need to stop driving past Bass Pro on my way north. read more
