I can't possibly list all of the great aspects of Dr. Gordon. He cared for our son from birth to adulthood. Here are the things I love about Dr. Gordon and his staff. Knowledge (Dr, Jay is constantly learning and assessing) Bedside manner. Humor, kindness and straight talk. Staff. The nurses, the nurses, the nurses. Best of the best. Friendly, helpful office staff. Education. Part of Dr. Jay's approach is to teach health to his parents and patients. Children learn early on about diet (sugar in particular), exercise, sleep, etc. When I look back on my child's luck around health, I realize that a lot of it has to do with health care and Dr. Gordon. I know that if we'd had to deal with a larger health issue there's no one I'd rather have in my corner than Dr. Gordon and the nurses. read more

Dr Nicole Ross saved our LO this year. Our daughter suffered ongoing infections (all year) which we are now going to see a specialist for. Dr Ross, and staff, remained committed to helping care for our daughter throughout the entire year they provided us with exceptional, hands-on care, and were always willing to help with ideas for preventing the ongoing issue moving forward. I feel the doctors and staff had concern for our daughters health, but also, her mental state too. There was not a single visit where our daughter left unhappy - or scared. That to me is priceless. The entire team is very hands on and friendly/family like. They really took the time to hear out our concerns, and spoke with us with a lot of care and integrity.The office itself is very calm, relaxing and pretty. Inside you will find lots of natural light and windows - light blue-pastel walls. A very quaint- modern cottage feel to it. I love that it's located next to the elementary school and coffee shops. Thank you Dr Jay Gordon, Dr Ross and Dr Linda for all of the love and care you provided us with this year. We love you! Ps. My only complaint is that the medical chart was not as specific as I would have liked. The diagnosis and visits were listed. However, a lot of the call logs and doctor-patient notes seemed to be missing. This normally would not matter. However, now that we have to see a specialist, this does make it a little more difficult. read more

This office is a joke but the doctor is the big joke here. No ethics and a holier than thou attitude from a high horse too high to see. My son had seizures as a child after vaccinations. I was told by Jay Gordon that they were seizures. I wouldn't just pick a diagnosis out of a hat like that if you know what I mean. He also suggested we stop vaccinating. This was a decision we all made in the best interest of my son. Years later when I look back at my sons chart to find this very pertinent medical information to share with another doctor, low and behold not one word of the incident and history was present. I called the office left a message, spoke to the nurse once maybe twice. They said I yelled at them. Ridiculous as I never did. But I definitely raised my voice when I spoke to Jay because he came at full force from the get go. This doctor is irresponsible and has no ethics. What kind of doctor doesn't put something that important in a patient's chart?? He actually told me that "it happens". When I confronted him he was unapologetic and completely on another planet. Just like his staff. We ultimately left his office because he exhibited extreme negligence when my other son was in the nicu for two weeks. Jay Gordon never called or checked on him the entire time I thought my son might die. What kind of doctor is he? I'll tell you. He is a self absorbed, irresponsible man who should not be a doctor. I yet have to receive the chart he was supposed to update for me. I guess I'll never see it. Interestingly enough when I read other reviews, it looks like Jay has a history of behaving this way. He has a tendency to disappear on his patients when their is something serious. And the fact that my son's chart was not complete with the actual history of his serious reaction shows me how unorganized he and his staff are. Honestly beware of this office. You are going to need a doctor who has good relationships with hospitals if your child is seriously ill. read more

Just wanted to leave a quick review regarding our experience as first time parents going through the birth process, combined with the additional stress (which we are all experiencing) of this current pandemic. Dr. Jay Gordon and his team made this process a lot less stressful. Dr. Gordon knows his stuff! Even though we had some worrisome moments both before and right after our son was born, it was always reassuring to speak with him personally. He made himself available to us at all hours and was quick to reassure us that he had a plan and the track record to get our son healthy. He also supported our goal of leaving the hospital as quickly as possible due to the current pandemic situation. He and his staff focused on getting us home with a healthy baby and continue to follow-up on his well-being. Upon our baby being released from the hospital we asked Dr. Gordon we needed to come in for our follow-up. He graciously informed us that we would not be driving to his practice in Santa Monica; instead, he personally would be coming to our home to check on our son. Not only did he come to our home but Jennifer Davison, the lactating nurse, has come by to support Dr. Gordon's plan to get our son healthy. We are on track for a healthy baby and blessed to have Dr. Gordon as the physician to our newborn son. Thank you Dr. Gordon, Jennifer, Michele and Ileana. Dr. Gordon has been our pediatrician since before our daughter was born; we met with him in the weeks before she was delivered. His lactation consultant came to meet with us in the hospital. Dr. Gordon supports our parenting style (family bed, slow on the vaccine schedule, homeopathy and veganism) and he demonstrates tremendous knowledge, care, and compassion. When we've had an emergency (only one thank God), his staff got back to us in minutes, late on a Saturday night. Our daughter likes and trusts him, and we have a wonderful relationship with his office. Highly recommended. It is a concierge medicine practice, so you will have to bill your own insurance and pay out of pocket for most care. Worth it. read more

If you are looking for a pediatrician that supports *your* parenting choices, this is THE dude. Dr. Gordon values his patients and their parents like no other doctor I've been to. Appointments are with him, with some help from a loving staff, and last about 1.5 hours for a check up. He is detailed, he listens to the child and to the parent and is compassionate and kind. He is a very interesting man and is involved with nutrition and the idea of food as medicine (as in supporting the system, and prevention of illness), has knowledge regarding homeopathic support, a great understanding of allopathic medicine and supports alternative medicine, also. Dr. Gordon also was the first man to become certified with the International Board Certified Lactation Consultants. He has at least one Lactation Consultant on staff, and supports extended breastfeeding. The last time we were there, he told me he was behind my parenting "110%" and THAT was a wonderful feeling - being in sync with your child's doctor makes caring for the children and the communications between doctor and parent - and child - so wonderfully easy. Dr. Gordon is worth the drive for that matter - I drive 1.5 or so hours to see him. Fabulous office, fabulous people. read more

We live in Eagle Rock- Dr Gordon's office in Santa Monica might as well be San Francisco at rush hour- no way would I ever pick a pediatrician so far away- but I made the mistake of meeting him just in case- he won't take your child as a patient of he didn't meet you while you were pregnant- He is simply the best doctor IU have ever met- I wish he'd see me as a patient. We are not rich or even affluent- his fees take a real bite out of our budget- but worth every cent- he has also kept us out of his office & hospital trips with a constant presence over email & on the telephone. We love him- not because he's hip- he's hip because he rules. read more

How do we love thee....? Let me count the ways - This whole practice is absolutely delightful! Everybody adds a beautiful personal touch and makes the visit a breeze! It is very unusual to see a Doctor, these days and in this city, without feeling like you are just another patient being squeezed into an already impossible schedule.... NOT here! No waiting for what feels like hours in a crowded waiting room, overhearing some unhappy discussion about insurance claims etc. Dr. Jay is super knowledgable and very old-school - which we love. We like to air on the side of caution, follow a vegan diet, prefer alternative/natural treatments as our first option, and he totally supports our choices and gives great advice. The fact that when needed, there is ALWAYS someone to speak to, any time of day or night. As a first-time parent, there are lots of unknowns and they are there to guide you through it every step of the way. They do not deal with Insurance, I do not blame them. There prices are not cheap - I guess you get what you pay for. It is not easy to make the payments and with another baby just a few weeks away, more than just the cable needed to go! But hey, It is our choice and no one is forcing us to go here. At the end of the day we are very happy and hope to be able to see this office and everybody working here, for a very long time! I have three sons who have been patience of Dr. Jay from birth onward. We have dealt with anything from life threatening infant respiratory issues, to rare allergies/ sensitivities, to bed wetting, nursing issues and need for in-depth vaccination information for international travel. Dr Gordon has met us every step of the way. He is responsive, thoughtful and shares the journey with us. He is still excited about medicine, he shares his curiosity about health and well being with his patience. He is engaged and kind. My boys trust him and listen to him share the whys when it comes to eating well, sleeping well and when they are teens, healthy lifestyle choices. He is quick to connect us with great physicians with different skills when needed and takes time to follow up directly with the doctors and with us. His staff is not only friendly, they bend over backwards to get our needs met. When there is an issue they are quick to fix the problem and more than happy to look into the questions that I have and get back to me. My thought is that after 17 years and three active boys often needing emergency care, if Dr Jay had a huge ego or lack of bedside manner or was inattentive, I would have seen it by now. When I read Jay Gordon's name on the front page of the LA Times this morning in an article about his selling COVID-19 tests to patients at a mark up, I was upset-- seeing his name triggered a traumatic experience I had with him 20 years ago. I looked at Yelp to see if anyone else had a bad experience with his treatment of their children, and found a message from another mom. I had all three of my boys in Dr. Gordon's practice, and found him engaging and helpful--when they were well. When my 2 year old suddenly died of a viral cardiomyopathy, Dr. Gordon didn't even answer my phone calls. I left messages asking him to help me and my young children understand what happened to their brother--no response. This caused me a great deal of pain, and made it necessary for me to find a new pediatrician for my other children. Over a year later he called me to apologize. I told him how much his silence had hurt me, and he answered: "I know, I'm sorry. I don't deal well with death." I would never recommend Dr. Jay Gordon to anyone, and am shocked that the LAT is quoting him as a respectable source and giving him visibility to unsuspecting parents. Clearly, he comes first-- not his patients. He has no problem ignoring them in times of need. read more

If you are reading this and considering seeing Dr. Jay and your child is already here... stop reading... He only accepts new patients if you come in for an appointment while pregnant so you can get to know each other and get an idea of what you expect from him and what he expects from you. Also, like many pediatricians, he doesn't accept insurance, so you have submit all your own paperwork to your insurance company. Presuming you did the get to know you meeting and don't mind filing your own insurance paperwork... He is simply the best pediatrician (and doctor) that I have experienced. I keep telling my wife that I wish we could find doctors for adults who are as knowledgeable, caring and attentive as Dr. Jay. Whatever the issue you are coming in for, he is always calm, in control and explains things simply and allows plenty of time for questions. You NEVER feel rushed out or brushed off. Amazingly (and this is very rare in doctors), he also listens to and values YOUR opinion. Unlike most doctors, he realizes that the 24/7 time you spend with your child is an important factor in his diagnosis and that you might be able to supply information that a 15 minute exam doesn't uncover. I can not express how thankful I am that I found Dr. Gordon! He is truly remarkable, compassionate and so knowledgeable! My daughter is 2 months old and she smiled and cooed at him her entire check up. I had a few bad experiences with my daughters pediatrician given to us through insurance. Dr Gordon is completely out of my network and I will not be reimbursed from my insurance to see him. But I truly could care less, he is wonderful! All his staff are amazing as well. Dr. Gordon's office is amazing. Being a first time mom of twins I was looking for an office that was diligent, thorough, and not annoyed by my endless list of questions. The staff alone are so well trained and educated, which is a true reflection upon the doctors. When my twins became sick for the first time recently I was hand held all the way through the night with a call every 30 min by their amazing nurse instructing me what to do in order to keep my 3 mn safe through the night. I'm so thankful to have my 2 babies under the care of such an amazing group of professionals. I see Dr Lappin and I couldn't feel more secure each time any of my 2 boys get sick. There were emergency situations that I was guided step by step by Dr Jay Gordon and it saved me from having to have my baby spend the night at a hospital. The nurses are 24/7 available to talk in case of emergencies or even what we think to be an emergency lol and they are all so precious. Jennifer the Lactation Consultant was a life saver and the reason why I could breastfeed my babies for few months, without her I'd totally had given up. I just spoke with Lorri, Dr. Gordon's assistant who is truly remarkable! She took her time with me on the phone answering all of my questions and emailed me immediately with all the information I needed. She was welcoming and kind and incredibly patient (I am a new mom-to-be and navigating the world of pregnancy & pediatrics is daunting). My health insurance is actually with Kaiser and just prior to my call with Dr. Gordon's office, I had been on the phone with them dealing with their big-corporation system and computerized approach (I always feel like a hampster in a wheel there) and to call Dr. Gordon's office and reach a lovely human being (Lorri) within the first ring who spoke with me at length was just...FABULOUS. The investment in health care here is more than you would pay at other offices, but the quality of care seems to be quite above and beyond, so if you value relationships, integrity & personalized attention over penny-pinching then I recommend this practice. 3 of our friends take their children to Dr. Gordon and his staff and they are all exceedingly happy with their experiences. Dr. Jay is the best. One reviewer suggested he lacks humility...that has never been my experience. The reality is that premium health care is expensive and that sucks but Dr. Jay takes more time than any other doctor we've seen (as a family or individually) and has exhibited more patience and understanding than any other practitioner.
