From the outside, this place looked a bit deserted on a Wednesday around 4:30 PM, so we weren't quite sure what to expect. Once inside, though, we were seated right away, and our server was already walking over with chips and salsa in hand--a great first impression. We were all craving a good margarita, so that was an easy decision. When asked which size we wanted, the server brought out all three cup sizes for us to see--naturally, the large was the obvious choice. The margaritas had just the right amount of sour, which I really enjoyed. I ordered the chicken fajitas, and the portion size was generous, especially for the price. It was enough that I even had leftovers to take home. One friend ordered the three tacos and absolutely loved them, while another ordered the carnitas plate and devoured every bite. By the time we wrapped up and headed out, it was a bit later and more patrons had started coming in, giving the place a much livelier feel. Came in with a group of 15 people while traveling. Attempted to order cheese dip but they did not serve it without jalapenos already in it. This is only the 3rd Mexican restaurant I have ever encountered that does not have cheese dip without jalapenos. I picked a burrito on the menu and told the waitress to leave the red sauce off of it. All of our food arrived, and my burrito had things in it that I could not eat that were not listed on the menu. The waitress acted like it was my fault I didn't tell her to leave the items out, but if it's not listed on the menu how was I supposed to tell her? She reluctantly took it away to be remade. I got to sit and watch everyone else eat while I waited, then they all had to wait for me to finish before we could leave. read more

We came here during our stop in Chipley overnight. My husband said he wanted to eat at a chain restaurant, but I being a food explorer thought I knew different. I like to eat local food so I can try different places when I am out of town. Well, I made an oopsie here. Let me say the staff here is very nice and welcoming to out of towners. Another couple came in who were also from out of town while we were eating and they were welcomed wonderfully from the manager. Our waitress was very sweet too and we appreciate here sitting us in a less crowded dining room. The manager also was very attentive to all the patrons. As for the food, the beans and rice were decent, but the white cheese here was strange. It had a sweet take to it, which seems weird for a queso blanco. My son and I both had it in his quesadilla and my enchilada, and our reactions were the same. Not good! My husband said his fajitas were over cooked and lacked flavor. He had eaten his fair share of fajitas in his life being that he is from San Antonio and Mexican, so I trust his judgement. I really wanted to like this restaurant. One to prove my husband wrong and two because they looked promising, but next time I will listen to my husband and go to a chain. read more

What a great dinner tonight at Javier's Mexican Grill. Exceptional Carnitas plate choice with corn tortillas, really good beans and freshly made guacamole and I topped the dinner off with Xango, a slice of cheesecake wrapped in a flour tortilla, fried and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar and whipped cream! Loved the casual charm of the restaurant but my favorite was Measha, my awesome server. She had great suggestions for dinner, checked on me at the right times and took some time to get to know a little bit about me. Great Job Javier's! read more

Waited a few minutes to be seated. Sat down, and after a few minutes, she came around for drink orders. Then we waited and waited... and yup, you guessed it waited some more. Finally, she brought out a few drinks. By this time, 20 minutes passed, and it was time to go. No food order was taken or placed. Place was halfway busy. A few tables had 5 or more people. I have passed through Chipley for many years and have noticed Javier's in a shopping center. On a night to Panama City, my brother wanted Mexican. There are 2 choices in Chipley - Cancun's, which I have had, and Javier's. Javier's had a higher rating on Yelp so that is where we went. Javier's doesn't really stick out though so you have to be watching for it. Our waitress seated us and was very friendly. She joked about being out of our drink orders. I called her bluff haha. Salsa soon followed. The salsa was tomato-ey and mild. I asked our waitress what do I have to eat at Javier's if this was my only time. I have been to so many Mexican restaurants that taste similar. She made a few recommendations but the one that stuck out to me was the Burrito California with pork. It's a humongous burrito topped with salsa verde and cheese and stuffed with bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, rice, beans, and your choice of meat. This burrito was phenomenal! The pork was cut and pulled. Every bit of it was tender and seasoned very well in fajita seasoning. I made a request to go light on the rice and beans, as well as, top the burrito with extra salsa verde. My requests were met exceptionally. I asked for some sour cream that added some coolness to the spicy salsa verde. I never expected to have a burrito this good from Javier's. We also ordered some ChoriQueso, which is what you expect, chorizo in queso. Chorizo is Mexican sausage and putting it in queso is a brilliant idea! Sweet tea was sweet and refreshing. But not as sweet as I've had from other Mexican restaurants. Javier's was a very pleasant surprise. I would not say it is the best ever but the burrito alone gives it almost a 5 star. Nice little restaurant with good food and reasonable prices. There was a place back home called Cozumel that had a seafood chimichanga that was my go-to order. They have a shrimp chimichanga here that is close and very delicious. My nephew got a quesadillas the last time, and the fajitas this time and ate it all both times. I LOVED THE CALIFORNIA BURRITO! That thing is huge!! Could barely eat 1/4 of it to be honest. Flavor wise 10/10 and I'm Hispanic so this place definitely passed the taste test. I'm far from home and was craving Hispanic food and I'm so glad I found this place! Our server was very nice and very attentive. The complementary chips and salsa were soooooo good! Warm chips and flavorful salsa. Overall I love the place. Little outdated decor but I don't care for that. this was my first time at Javiers after hearing so much about it. Immediately i was greeted by the kindest and most helpful hostess ever. She got me seated and I ordered fish tacos, which were splendid. This review isn't about the food however, it's more so about the hostess. I saw her working very hard, and when I left, she was still just as polite wishing me a good day. She told me her name was CJ, so that being said: CJ deserves a raise, or a promotion, or both. We were driving to Florida for a vacation and stopped in Chipley, FL for an overnight stay. My wife decided she wanted Mexican food, so we decided on Javier's. I will start with the positives, we were seated almost immediately and the staff was amazingly friendly. The downside was the food didn't really have that much flavor. I had the parrillada with beef, chicken and shrimp. The shrimp was good and larger than expected, but the beef and chicken didn't really have any flavor and they were dry. The beans and rice were good, but I didn't get that much with the plate. It did what I needed, which was make me less hungry, it was just average. I do want to say that the owner was very friendly and helped out the wait staff. He also spoke with all of his customers and was very active throughout our stay. read more

Javier's Mexican Grill is considered the most popular place in Chipley. Approaching the lunch time, their two dining halls are fill up with people. I have been to Javier a few times when I visit Chipley. There not much of selection for restaurant in Chipley, but Javier is one of the three restaurant I recommend in this town. Today I have the grilled shrimp with rice. The shrimp size is about 26 count a pound which considered the medium size. The shrimp is not the sea fresh but fresh enough for this inland restaurant. I like the rice with Mexican style red fried rice. The price range is average considered the amount of food and material. The other selection I have tried before is the fajitas. I have not try their taco. I will try them one day. The service is good consider this is a busy restaurant. read more

Went a couple of times while all the restaurants were take out only and the employees were kind and upbeat, even with the loss of business. Went in again recently now that things are back opened and was floored with how great the service was all around. Food was great, sweet tea delicious. I didn't order a drink at all on my last visit but I did order a beer while they were shut down (had to drink there obviously while waiting for my food). So they do have alcohol now! read more

Well I decided to eat here today with my daughter. It was a beautiful day and decided Mexican food was right up my alley. Ok here goes nobody is required to wear masks. They let u sit inside and yes it was full. Well to get to the point ordered the chicken quesadilla and was enjoying eating ... until I felt something hard in my mouth. Usually these places are passable and filling, but Javier's is really good, mole was thick flavorful with good heat, enchiladas verde had really good sauce, tomatillos must have been perfectly ripe, I'm fairly sure it was house made, the house cheese dip was evenly flavored and lightly spiced so anyone can eat it, add a little Habenero on the side, all good. read more

Food was pretty good. I had a ground beef quesadilla and my boyfriend had the steak fajitas. Both were really quite average, maybe a little better than average. No alcohol can be served in this entire strip mall / building because of the owners religion..... I love my chips and salsa but a margarita is an integral part of my Mexican experience... oh well! We have had a Thanksgiving eve dinner with extended family here for past several years. The wait staff serve our group of 40 to 50 people with patience and good cheer. The chips and salsa are among the best I've had at any Mexican restaurant and were refilled promptly. They served the entire group at the same time--no small feat. I can't speak for everyone, but all at our table were well satisfied with the quality of their food. My shrimp tacos were delicious. Our drink glasses were kept filled throughout the evening--an important barometer for me. We'll keep coming back. read more

Chipley is small but this place hits big! Food was great. Had to make a trip down to chipley and this place did not disappoint. All of our food was made fresh, everything was a great price and staff was so nice even with us having our order to go. All three of us had quesadilla specials with guacamole, choriqueso and salsa.
