The best customer service we have experienced in quite a long time!! We stopped in for coffee and ended up with a Delicious slice of lemon creme cake and apple pie! Enjoyed warm Java. Jack biscuits with apple butter.....incredible! The owner chatted with us for a while and it was great to hear his enthusiasm and appreciation for our visit. Breakfast was average. Poached eggs on the eggs Benedict were way over cooked. Portion size was large with the breakfast burrito. I would give a higher rating however when we were there someone brought in a non-service marked dog (looked like a large mix breed puppy), and sat the dog in a chair at the table. Staff did not make the dog get down nor did they change the table linens after the lady left. Next person at the table is unwittingly sitting where the dog was. Totally unacceptable in my opinion. If they didn't change the table linens when a dog was drooling on it, it makes me question how often they change them between customers. read more

We stopped here for lunch on our way back to Northern Virginia--actually our first time dining at a restaurant since COVID began. Fortunately, they had a few outside tables, which we were able to take advantage of, given the unseasonably warm weather. The food was excellent and the kids loved being able to get breakfast for lunch. The omelets and hash browns were fantastic. (And the "Jacks" that came with them--basically like small doughnuts--were excellent, hot and fresh. We would have gotten an order of those to go, but unfortunately they were out of them as we were leaving.) Our waitress was very pleasant and accommodating and everyone seemed to be following mask protocols. The only critique is that I wish they didn't serve everything in styrofoam containers and plastic silverware, etc.--not very environmentally friendly. I assume this was because we were eating outside, so it was treated as a takeout order (as customers eating inside seemed to have real plates and silverware), but given that we were eating there, real plates would have been nicer and more environmentally conscious. However, overall this was a really nice experience and I'm glad we stopped by! read more

We went to Java Jack's for an early dinner. It's right downtown, in a cute building that looks like it used to be a house. It's very cozy. We sad on the outside porch area. It was open mic night, but it was very lowkey - an acoustic duo performed inside. Our server was very friendly and attentive. It was happy hour, so there was discounts on beer, wine and specialty cocktails. I had a glass of pinot grigio, which was very good. I had the Shrimp Alfredo, which was on special, and a house salad. Both were very good and large portions. The desserts looked really good but we didn't have a chance to try them. This spot is a favorite of my little sister and her friends who are students nearby - they love coming here for breakfast and lunch. read more

This is a great little restaurant in the heart of Tappahannock. It's in an old house that's been converted into a nice little restaurant. It has a little bit of an elegant atmosphere and a nice wait staff. Food is very good, haven't gotten a bad meal there yet. Slightly pricey although is worth the extra. read more

Stopped in for a late brunch today on our way to Northern Virginia for the 4th of July weekend. What a treat!! We started with a basket of "Jacks" and the then moved on to our lunch and breakfast entrees. The fish and chips was perfectly cooked and served in brown paper bag, which was a perfect presentation. My son raved about the blueberry French toast and I had the French dip and waffle fries. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. Don't pass this place up as you drive through downtown! I'd give more than five stars if I were able! What a great little place! The owner came out and gave our pup some water and a few pieces of bacon. Kelly, our server was very friendly and did an excellent job. My husband had the spinach mushroom bacon quiche, I had the turkey with Swiss and bacon sandwich and the very yummy homemade mac and cheese. The food is pretty good! The only good place for brunch in Tappahannock. The service is always friendly.

Really enjoyed this little spot. The coffee was very smooth much better than a certain corporate entity. I had the eggs Chesapeake which was excellent. The hash browns were more of fried potatoes by my standards but I wouldn't have changed anything about my meal. The cost was very reasonable considering the high quality of my dish. The only reason I went with four stars is it was getting a little warm inside the building... The wait staff was pleasant and friendly! read more

We loved Java Jack's. The eggs were hot, the catfish was fried just right (light batter, so you could taste the fish). I loved the "jack", which is a local version of the beignet. Most of all, I appreciated the owner coming around to refill drinks and make sure everyone was happy with their meal. Next time I'll stay for dessert--the pie looked delicious. read more

In Tappahannock for a wedding and the front desk recommended Java Jacks for breakfast. It was so good, we booked our party of 22 there for breakfast tomorrow. Service was fast, friendly & warm. Food was excellent. I had their blueberry french toast with sausage & bacon. It was perfectly done. Make sure you order "Jacks" for the table! Others in our party had egg sandwiches on croissants, which were highly regarded. The omelets were delicious as well. We took a detour through Tappahannock on our way to Sandbridge, VA after being stuck behind an accident on I95 for entirely too long. I used Yelp to find a restaurant in the area and Java Jacks had great reviews so I thought we'd stop to check it out. I'm so happy we did! We were greeted with a friendly smile when we walked in and that lovely hospitality carried through our entire visit. The food was fresh and made from scratch which was exactly what we needed after long day of traveling. If we ever take this detour again we'll be sure to stop for another great meal! read more

We've been here just for drinks to go, as well as breakfast, most recently on Mother's Day. Service was a little slow that day, but they were awfully busy. It is true, Java Jacks has been bought by Arnest Seafood and Cafe, but most of the menu and staff apparently has stayed the same. My fiancé and I stopped by there on our way to Gwynn's Island, we had been to this place one other time when it was Java Jack's. My fiance had turkey wrap that she was not thrilled with, the cranberry sauce was a bit too sweet. We were at tail end of the lunch rush and I ordered the fish and chips and they were decent, very basic. It is a cute place, but the food is nothing to write home about but it is decent stop on your way to some place else. read more

You have to stop for a meal at this very chic, quaint And lovely cafe in Tappahannock Virginia. We had Delicious cream of crab soup and split a great Reuben with terrific sweet potato fries which rivaled any NY/NJ Reuben. Our son had a Caesar Chicken wrap and loved it! Portions are good sized!. Had breakfast there this morning. Omelet's were supposed to be a 3 egg fluffy omelet with 3 fillings. Omelet was a griddle made flat omelet made with what I would say were maybe 2 liquid eggs if that. The Omelets were very small and very,very little filling for $9.00. Came with some potato's, a few pieces of fruit and 2 deep fried dough balls covered in powder sugar. Coffee was $2.50 and was limited to two creamers which the waitress pulled out of her apron after having to ask for them. Breakfast for the two of us was $23.00 which I would not mind if I left feeling I had a hearty breakfast which was not the case here. I don't think they will ever see any of my money again. There are commercial places to eat just up the road for the same or less but more food of the same quality or better. read more

They have gluten free bread and can accommodate my breakfast and lunch menu when it comes to sandwiches and they have grilled meats too. Everything I have had has been great. Going for lunch during the week is favorite visit when in Tappahannock. They offer an interesting menu of fresh and local items made fresh to order. I love the crabcake sandwich and homemade chips. The coffee bar smells amazing! There's an herb garden outside, nice music inside with eclectic decor and friendly staff. The waitstaff is attentive but can be a bit slow on bringing the food at times This place is inviting and different then the usual places you come across. my husband and i were traveling w/our 2 dogs to meet my parents in tappahannock, and we happened upon java jacks coffee house. i assumed we'd have to order carry-out b/c of the dogs, but i asked the owner/manager (not sure) if he allowed dogs on the deck. i was pleasantly surprised when he said yes, and then he volunteered to get them a bowl of water! we had a lovely lunch outside of pulled pork BBQ sandwiches and iced tea. he even brought the dogs a piece of bacon :) it can be hard to find dog-friendly establishments and we were so happy we lucked on to this one. this will definitely be a future meeting place. read more

We found this little gem through Yelp when trying to find a decent place for breakfast while in Tappahannock for the weekend. Both my husband (who likes his manly breakfast) and I found plenty to choose from. No matter what you may like, you will find it. Everything we ordered tasted really good and the coffee was great! I had a cappachino and when they asked small or large, I decided to go with the large. Well, it was large!! I took what I didn't finish in a to go cup. The waitress and staff were very friendly and attentive. The place is in an old renovated home and the tables and decor are all old pieces. A really homey atmosphere. You know it is a good place to eat when you see a lot of the locals there. Wish they were close to home!
