She had the cutest southern charm. I had the BLGT sandwich on a bun. My husband had the shrimp platter. We had to try the pimento quesadilla and it was excellent. The dill ranch was a great compliment. Very fresh !!! While we were just staying the night after looking at a boat in Lottsburg, it was quite a treat to eat such delicious food at a reasonable price and have such a kind server. Stopped by the farm mid-afternoon on a Sunday for a late lunch. Grace was my waitress. She was prompt, attentive, and did an excellent job. I ordered the flounder/crabcake combo (with coleslaw and fries). Side note: they have specials every weekend, and when I was there the special was ribeye steaks, but they were out. Would definitely love to try their steak. Food was awesome, and there was plenty of it. The fries were the best fries I've had in a LONG time. Flounder was good, albeit thin (but it's flounder, so...) and the crabcake was equally good. All that food for only $28! Ambiance? Well, they have outdoor seating which will be very nice when the weather gets better. Interior is sort of farm-houseish? Was okay. My only negative (hence the 4 stars instead of the 5 they should get): Served cole slaw, ketchup, and tartar sauce in plastic containers. I understand that saves on washing dishes, but surely there's a more environmentally friendly way to do that (considering you are a "farm to table" restaurant. I will definitely go back! read more

A small place on 17. If you are driving fast and blink you might miss it, and I think you would be sad for missing. Food is seasoned well. I had the fried catfish, and everyone knows... everyone cannot fry catfish well. Sometimes it's fried too hard. Sometimes it's under or over seasoned. This place is not as previous postings would leave one to believe. I had chosen this place based on two things: Yelp postings/ ratings and the menu. I wanted breakfast. According to our server, What we got was a "new menu and there was no longer breakfast." That said, our lunches ranged from good to very good. We shared fried green tomatoes- you get the whole tomato, coating was good, and the accompanying sauce was tasty. I had a BLT. It was fine. The men in our group really liked their burgers and my dad enjoy his crab bisque which seemed "bottomless" and had an acceptable amount of crab. He also had hush puppies. While they were good but not great, he liked the presentation of the two together. While I am on the fence about returning, the men in our group are ready to go back soon. If we go back, I would get the fried green tomatoes and crab bisque. read more

We stopped by today for lunch and everything was delicious. I haven't been since the new owners opened it up and let me tell you what! They did an awesome job! I liked that they made the menu smaller! The restaurant itself is large and roomy but still feels cosy and it's very clean!!! The waitress we had was very attentive and cheerful which is always a good sign! The food was hot tasty and fresh and we didn't have to wait long!!! My husband and I were in the area and we decided to eat at 17 South. Our server was friendly and the food servings were huge. I got fried green tomatoes which came with a delicious dipping sauce. there were several tomato slices which were lightly breaded. my entree was chicken with orange sauce with rice and brocoli. The broccoli was fresh and very good. The chicken was huge breaded fingers. My portions were so large that I took them home and ate them for several days. My husband got their special Cheeseburger and fries. He said it was very good. He got pineapple upside down cake to go. He said it was excellent when he at it the next morning. Called to speak to the Manager Keith I tell him the situation and he hangs up on me. The "Owner" sent me a false statement on Instant Messager. I asked the person to call me, they do. I left an outstanding review 7 months ago, but our experience on Sunday was far from good! Unfortunately, we will not be back. When we visited last year, the fried oysters were amazing, so I was excited to go again and order them. As soon as we were seated on Sunday (around 6-ish pm), the first thing we were told is that they were out of oysters. Ok, no big deal; it was late in the day, so that's understandable. Both my husband and I ordered the fried flounder (a flounder platter and a seafood platter, with flounder). The waitress brought our drinks and then at least 15 minutes later, she came back to say that she was just told that they were out of flounder too...15 minutes after we'd already been waiting for out food. So, we switched our order. The food was fine, but after paying our bill, we noticed that she never changed our ticket and she charged our credit card for the 2 flounder/seafood platters, which was more than what we changed our order to. She then had to refund the money and recharge the new prices. While all of that was happening, another couple came in, he ordered a steak and the waitress said they were out of steak too. This was a poor experience all the way around...and seems like they were out of lots of things. read more

Stopped in while on a trip to Baltimore after reading the reviews about how great the food is here. Usually Yelp is good for a suggestion this time it totally let me down. I really don't even know where to start. We were told to seat ourselves and we began to wait. After I would say a solid 10 to 15 minutes someone finally came to take our order. I had a sandwich with pulled pork and mac and cheese on it. The mac and cheese was good; however the pulled pork was not. I would imagine if McDonalds made pulled pork it would taste something like this! I also ordered onion rings they seemed ok, but had a taste like maybe the grease had been used just a few weeks to long. Wife reported her Rubin was ok she has had better and worse. So Overall I would just report this as a Yelp failure as far as we are concerned. Better luck next time. read more

I will give them one more chance, as I have patronized this establishment twice. I am most disappointed about the cooking. The first time it was Busy on a Sunday around 10:30am. They ran out of biscuits, then forgot to give us the replacement toast, and the fried potatoes looked uncooked, they were more like boiled potatoes. My family was happy enough with their meals so I only took one star for the boiled potatoes and the forgotten toast. Worst fried potatoes but pretty good pancakes. 2nd patronage Ordered the steak and cheese & the Reuben. The Reuben was HORRIBLE the sauerkraut was flavorless and the beef was THICK, TOUGH and DRY. THE PEOPLE IN CHARGE OF ORDERING NEED TO TASTE THIS "FOOD" ABSOLUTELY THE WORST REUBEN IVE EVER HAD. DONT PUT IT ON THE MENU IF YOU DONT KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT. The steak & cheese was okay it did have chunks of steak but the sandwich was mostly bread. I guess this place is an oasis in the middle of the sticks and that's its crowning achievement. Do not bother. Waitstaff need serious lessons in saying hello, courtesy, ADA , and a few other things. You should never ask how many and them keep walking by without telling them anything , and when physically forced to talk to you she said she could seat us if we could eat and be out of there in 30 minutes. If she'd seated us we'd have at least 40 minutes. I found it reprehensible this young woman kept walking by and not addressing us or our seating expectations for 10 minutes. Especially when you gave an elderly gentleman stooled over a walker, barely standing up. You have courtesy. She did not. At least four workers went by without speaking or trying to help. Let's just say I hope the food was good, because the young girl working was not.! It bothered me the buffet was not covered and in throwaway pans. This leads to concerns about the food temp. This is an accident waiting to happen. Thus is hardly a classy establishment, but more like a bump on the side of the road. She got her way and we left without eating. Please don't set you're up. We wound up eating down the road about 8 mikes at Roma. It was obviously a blessing in disguise. I grew up in a family restaurant. People like this is why so few make it anymore. read more

My oyster po boy was delish and Katie's fried chicken platter (with mash potatoes and gravy and green beans reminiscent of the old o on the eastern shore of md) were perfect. Pretty underwhelming. I had heard great things, but I just thought it was fine, nothing special. Portions are huge, good Southern cooking, staff is friendly. Didn't get told any specials. Ordered the crab mac and cheese for an appetizer, there was a good amount of shell in it. They were out of what I wanted to order, so I went with a plan B (crab cakes). They were fine. Meals are overpriced in my opinion. I didn't think two crab cakes were worth $26 (they did have sides). I really wanted to give this place a good review because the waitress Wanda was excellent. In fact I tipped her 30% today.. I can't though. The state of VA is under a mask mandate in public and I walked in to pay for our meal and the cashier was without a mask, not only that, I look over and all of the kitchen staff and cooks were without masks. They aren't following the rules or caring about their patrons safety. I am someone who has battled Covid for months and have lost loved ones, and when I see things like this it makes me very mad. I won't report the business, but they need to do better and people need to beware they aren't following our state's mask and health guidelines. read more

Quaint atmosphere, greeted pleasantly immediately when we walked in. It's winter in the northern neck so nothing is very crowded, no wait. It's about noonish so not much in the mood for breakfast anymore. I'm guessing breakfast may be better than the lunches. Food was A-Ok as the 3 stars suggest. Server was very friendly. Never mentioned soup of the day or the specials as we heard another server mention after we had ordered. I had the BBQ since it seemed to be one of their "things". My husband had the crab cake. Both were fine. Nothing to rave about. We chose collard greens and mac and cheese as our sides. They were okay as well. The cheese in the mac and cheese was a little "broken". This place is a little out of the way for us so I'm not sure if we will be back. If we do come back, we may try a little earlier in the day and shoot for breakfast. Oh - by the way - this is not a friendly place for those watching their waistlines! We are traveling with two small kids, we were in the restaurant to approx 1.5 hours...... with hungry and tired 4 & 6 year old. Restaurant is good size, however better to not sit the entire place and overwhelm the kitchen. Trickle effect- Kitchen is irritated - wait staff stressed- orders get messed up= customers not happy. 2) wait staff shouldn't be openly rude to kitchen. I've worked in many restaurants and know the dynamic, but if you choose to have an open kitchen- it shouldn't be visible to someone across the restaurant that the wait staff and cooks aren't "seeing eye to eye". I witnessed one particular server be very condescending- not ok. Instead maybe offer to help. Stagger orders. All in all- I hope they make it- food was good, setting cute! I have to agree with another reviewer in regard to the onion rings. They were very greasy and the oil taste stayed with you all day. My boyfriend got them and I wanted to go the healthier way so I ordered sautéed vegetables which I think were cooked on the same grill and were so greasy and had no flavor at all. Wife and I decided to take a drive New Years Day down the 17 and we stumbled across this gem. Food was really good. Wife - I don't know what she was thinking... ordered the 17 South Dirty Burger... Guy Fieri would have been impressed. Burger topped with pulled pork, ham, bacon, and slaw - and no skimping on any topping. I had a Reuben. Both were crazy good and even when opening the to go box later that evening... Service was very friendly. Serving size more than plenty. Prices very reasonable. Great choice for breakfast along 17. Lowry's doesn't open til 11, so come here! I had a waffle with a side of corned beef hash. My husband had a big breakfast platter with pancakes, eggs, hash browns, and a biscuit. I think we got a good sampling of all the normal breakfast fare. Everything was good and as expected.
