I'm honestly surprised at how highly rated Java Haute is, because frankly, the coffee here is very average. It's not bad, but it's nothing special. It is one of the only local coffee shops in Terre Haute though, so I guess when you don't have any competition, average is acceptable. The past two times I've been here, we went through the drive thru on our way home to Indy and our lattes were luke warm. This also happened the last time we went inside for a drink, which is odd. On my most recent visit to the Haute, I opted for an iced chai tea since I was weary of receiving another cold latte. Their iced chai teas are okay, but honestly taste like the stuff out of the box that can be purchased at Kroger. I'm not sure what roaster supplies their coffee beans, but I assume it's not sourced from a local Indiana roaster because they don't advertise that information anywhere on their website. I'm normally all for supporting local coffee shops over Starbucks, and have a favorite coffee shop in nearly every neighborhood of Indy. However, I'll probably stick with Starbucks on future trips to Terre Haute to play it safe. read more

By far my favorite coffee shop in town. They have lavender flavoring which is hard to find around here (if you haven't tried it, I'd highly recommend putting it in a latte!). Their lunch options are limited but so delicious! There are lots of seats but at certain times of the day, it can be hard to find a good seat. I love that you can reserve their back rooms. I've had several work meetings out of there and it's great. Also I love that they are a local place with a drive through option. Super convenient! read more

Java Haute has the best coffee in town. It's waaay better than those big guy corporate kind of places. They have desserts as well. I tried the cheesecake it was delicious. I don't live in Terre Haute, but I've been coming here for the last 4 years for work. Every time I'm in town, I stop in as many time as possible. Usually, the baristas are wonderful, helpful, and patient. The coffee is wonderful, and they have so many sugar free options that other coffee shops do not have. (My main reason for loving it so much!) I recently discovered their lunch menu, and I was blown away! I brought lunch back for my coworkers and EVERY ONE of them enjoyed their food--and I have one especially picky eater that is very difficult to please. But she LOVED her food. The chicken salad, the egg salad, the smashed avocado egg toast, the KBR salad. We came back last week 3 different times because they had a little something for everyone, and we enjoyed it all so much! However, forward to this week. The baristas on Friday morning--not so wonderful, helpful, nor patient. The coffee--still delicious, definitely would recommend. PLEASE DON'T EVER CHANGE. The food--disappointing. They completely changed the menu, which we knew was going to happen because they warned us about it. But I really didn't think they would drop almost everything good on the menu. They no longer have lunch options, unless you want the chicken salad. But they did change the chicken salad options, including that if you want a "sandwich" they can't give you an extra piece of bread, even if you offer to pay for it because there is "no button" for that. So you can only eat it open faced. They don't have the egg/avocado toast, egg salad, kbr salad, or any of the other options we loved so much. You can order a cold quiche that you get to warm up yourself, though, and get a snarky remark about how it comes cold and you can heat it up yourself for 1 minute in the microwave in the corner (which, btw, is not long enough). All in all, if you want delicious coffee with plenty of options, this is the place to go! If you want consistent good service and any of the good food they used to serve, you should maybe look elsewhere first. read more

We live an hour away, so while he is at camp three hours a day, I come here and work on my nursing school work until it's time to pick him up. Smoothies are great! Atmosphere is great! Another nice coffee shop in Terre Haute. This is more sleek glass and modern than the Coffee Grounds, and has a totally different feel. How awesome is it that Terre Haute has not just one, but TWO great coffee shops to choose from? It's close to Rose Hulman, and is located in a little strip mall across the street from a Mexican restaurant. They have a nice selection of coffees, coffee drinks, pastries, etc. I highly recommend it if you are in town. read more

I used to go to this coffee shop every day, sometimes twice a day because I worked right down the street. They make the best lattes, coffees and pastries in town. Much better coffee drinks than Starbucks. The pastries are very tasty and fresh. Also offer a selection of teas but that isn't their main draw. This place stays busy from the minute they open the door in the mornings- several of us used to wait outside until they opened to get our caffeine before work. Now I live across town and don't get here as often but any time I'm over that way I make a detour just to get my Java fix. It has a wonderful set up where you can relax inside and they have lots of local artwork displayed that you can enjoy as you relax. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful. This place has grown on me. It's got this weird cafe/coffee house feel that somehow really works for them. Anytime I've ever gotten food I've never been disappointed. You probably won't get stuffed but it's not that kind of place. The food always tastes good. Still not the biggest fan of the coffee but it's serviceable. It's just got a great atmosphere. Most people are there to study so the noise level stays low but not so low that you feel like you can't talk. I don't know it's just a nice place to relax and Terre haute needs more unique places like this. read more

Honestly the most poorly made beverages I've had in a long time. I ordered 3 hot chocolate and a cappuccino and had to return all of them to get them replaced because they were basically hot water. They made new ones but they were no better. I had a previous experience days before but thought maybe it was just because of new help but it's been different people each time. This place used to be really good when they first opened but lately have been lesser quality than gas station coffee. read more

Coffee is very good. Locally owned. They have seasonal specials (right now it's pumpkin spice, of course) and it certainly beats Starbucks! Prices are good and service is quick at the drive through. This is my favorite Coffee Shop in Terre Haute. The staff is extremely friendly and likable, the Coffee is excellent, and the ambiance is warm and inviting. Seating is well designed- cushioned booths, tables for a variety of group sizes, and a glass meting room in the back that is partially soundproofed for group meetings. Also in the back is a circle of soft, comfortable lounge chairs to sit with your friends and relax. They also have free WiFi and a drive- thru. read more

A GREAT SURPRISE for a traveler !! Having time to take a break, after leaving the hotel on I-70, we noticed this place & decided to check it out. From the moment we laid eyes on the outside, it was a WINNER ! Quiet, relaxing, great lighting, interesting up-to-date decor, and the food & coffee was as expected. Locally owned, it's very successful & about to expand to the complete building. An IT server, yes, a GEEK Server told us of their media sources, and offered an assist if needed. Java Haute has decent coffee and a fun atmosphere, but the most attractive qualities are how close it is to the Rose-Hulman campus and its 24-hour-drive-through. We mostly stop here when we know it's going to be a late night of studying and everywhere else is closed, but it's not worth trying to study here because it's very small and there isn't much table space. The staff is hit-or-miss; some of them actually talk to you, but others have messed up my order twice in a row because they were too busy talking to pay attention. It's just as overpriced as Starbucks, but their specialty 'tuxedo' drinks are pretty good if you're willing to pay for them. read more

Been to Java Haute dozens of times and the coffee and food are always good. I usually get their cold brewed iced coffee, and that's always great. Muffins are very good; their egg sandwiches are tasty, but a little expensive for what you get; and they have some interesting sandwiches. A few comfy chairs if you're there to read, and plenty of outlets and free WiFi for laptops. Staff are super friendly. One of my favorite places to sit and think here in Terre Haute. read more

Thus far as I've been looking to find the perfect cup of coffee, I must say although I don't like carafes over fresh brewed coffee that java haute will brew it fresh if asked as they did for me as they were already brewing some before I walked in. The bees nknees is both favorable rich and moderately strong with an added shot of expresso . I would recommend java haute to anyone who wants a specialty coffee of their own. I don't know if it's the new employees or if they changed recipes but the last couple times I've ordered the Carmella, it was bitter and no caramel sweetness. In the past, it's been creamy and sweet. This is a locally - owned coffee shop that offers 24 hr drive thru service. The surroundings are painted by students from the local university which includes murals of different things centralizing on having a good time. I've seen all ages there and the staff is very friendly. The coffee is definitely different from other well - known franchises and tastes fresh everytime. It may not appeal to all people the coffee used is quality. The only annoying things is the fact that if I want to pay using my debit card (which I do quite often) they won't let me add a tip to the amount so I found out the hard way that I have to give cash for a tip.... that day I apologized for not having cash for a tip.
