    Lo Mein
    Prince C.

As I entered in, I thought to myself, holy sweet baby jesus this place is... alright. I stepped onto the line and watched as college students reached their grubby claws inside the splash guard glass. When it was my turn to order, the worker frowned, informing me that I had been looking at the wrong menu. I panicked as I looked at the hungry college students behind me. I searched for anything familiar, and finally settled on lo mein. I took my container, stumbled off and grabbed a strawberry mochi ice cream and a mango juice on the way out. The lo mein was good, just a typical lo mein you'd order in, but I felt defeated. I took a bite of the ice cream and it was definitely a redeeming factor. I took a sip of the juice and immediately my mouth was flooded with what tasted of sea water and back wash. not a fan. As college kids sat down all around with headphones and notebooks, i remembered what this place was, college campus food. Overall, it was not a bad experience, and probably some of the better college campus food you would find.

Solid Chinese and Indian food. Cafeteria style, order your food, pick it up, and pay at the register. Chinese food is very Americanized, but pretty good and I would give it a passing grade, especially since its in a school. Indian food can be salty at times, but in terms of flavor it tastes very authentic. I wish the chicken vindaloo had more heat, but they probably toned it down a bit to cater to students tastes. Garlic naan is baked perfectly and it is toasty and warm when you first order it from their ovens. Space is very clean and probably one of the better food courts in Stony Brook University, although the trek can be far if you're traveling from the other side of campus.

I wasn't expecting much from a college campus diner but i was surprised by the taste in a $8 curry chicken tikka masala it had a rich taste and it was very juicy and i had 2 $5 bubble tea's peach and blueberry it was probably the best drink I've had in months and after eating we went and explored the place around and it was an amazing experience there is a rock garden, water fountains around the building that you can hangout and wait for your next class or just spend some time amazing art work around the building with very interesting stories and after going to investigate the place i decided to get some snacks from the diner and they were very interesting but they had a lot of snacks for everyone to enjoy overall a good experience and i would definitely go there again for a bite.

After entering the Wang center the stunning architecture and impressive artwork amazed me and gave me a glimpse into the culture I was about to see. While waiting for the Jasmine to open, I explored the Wang center from the rock reflection pool to the bathrooms. (An excellent place for a bathroom break)and the Zen garden. After the doors opened, I became overwhelmed by the lines seeing as there was conjoing Korean, Japanese and Chinese lines. I did not know what to do so I ordered the Lo Mein. The noodles were cooked fine enough. I would rather go to my local chinese restaurant and order from there instead. The food was seasoned enough and hit the spot after a long day of waiting for food. The student friendly atmosphere felt open and welcoming and definitely would be a study spot for me at Stoney Brook.

    Chicken Bibimbap

Upon arrival, the Wang center at Stony Brook University seemed promising. The architecture throughout with various artwork to decorate once inside were perhaps underwhelming but the fountains and spiral staircases were quite beautiful. Fountains which powered on as an announcement that the "Cafetasia" was now open for my personal enjoyment. I quickly obtained some Taro milk bubble tea which was quite delicious (at 50% sugar level as with anything more my teeth might shrivel up and fall out) and then quickly made my way to the serving stations. Overwhelmed, I paced back and forth scanning the menu boards until I settled for a chicken "Bibimbap", a collection of vegetables and chicken with a sesame sauce over a bed of warm rice. This too was a good meal all together for a college student, but each component needed more flavor for my liking. Everything seemed to lean towards the bland side except the sauce that overpowered any natural flavors from the vegetables themselves. Despite finishing this $11 Bibimbap, I was left craving more so I purchased a small cup of a chocolate mousse that had Oreos, whipped cream, and a cherry. This was by far my favorite part of the meal but even so, there was nothing special about this dessert. As decadent as it was, I can get mousse like this seemingly anywhere. The staff seemed rather stressed and therefore less than friendly but this alone would not influence my decision on whether I would come back again. Overall, I understand the appeal and was able yo delve into Asian culture at a very superficial level, but I don't think the Charles B. Wang center will be seeing me again soon.

To most people, the Jasmine hall is a normal part of their college life. Stop in, get a quick meal, on to the next class. But when you take a true dive into this restaurant it is truly much more. As soon as I entered through the beautiful walkway surrounded by bamboo I knew I was in for a cultural treat. The architecture is only second to their magical art work, that belongs in a museum. The fountains surrounded by cultural art work and history adds a different dimension to this restaurant. I even found my self roaming through an exquisite zen garden. With this introduction to the culture I was about to endulge myself in I couldn't be more excited. We where the first people inside of this hall so naturally it was extremely clean. I decided that I would start out with appetizers from the Chinese food line. As an EXPERT on American Chinese food, I was extremely disappointed. Their was no fried rice option, so I settled on fried dumplings and veggie Lo Mein to start me off on my cultural experience. I bit into the dumplings first extremely excited (as dumplings are my favorite food). As it painfully crushed against my teeth, I not only felt extreme discomfort but overwhelming disappointment. These Little Rock's did not appease me. Next I decided to try the Noodles, I thought these where very mediocre. They where well salted but the pasta was extremely cheap and doughy. The vegetables where over cooked and did not spark appetite deep within. I decided that this hall had to have something more to offer me. So I headed back to the lines that had grown quite long. Luckily they moved quick. I purchased their Korean ribs which came with rice, sausage and peppers. I sat down to try and boy am I glad I went back. This meal was fantastic! The perfectly glazed ribs made my mouth water. The sausage and peppers had the most delicious flavor I craved more and the rice was cooked perfectly mixed with the juices from the ribs and sausage. With being extremely satisfied I knew I just had to complete their full course meal with some dessert. I got coffee, a lava cake, and one macaroon. As it was my first time having a macaroon the texture was definitely different but none the less it was very good. The lava cake was toasted to perfection and I was so full j had to pop some buttons. In the ended up spending 27$ on a full course meal which is not too pricey, most people would not have gotten both the Chinese and Ribs but hey why not. I would definitely recommend for something quick and easy.

You basically walk in and you feel like you're in Penn Station. It's chaotic and lots of smells fill the air as tacky yet generic Asian decorations fill the wide room. With an assembly line way of ordering, if you know where the line starts and what you're getting, it's simple. I decided to try a new dish and ordered kimchi fried rice and chicken dumplings at first. The dumplings tasted as if they had been taken out of the freezer and put in the oven, but nothing bad for campus food, though they were a tad dry. The kimchi rice was not my style. Personally, I didn't like it, it reminded me of Outback food but not in the best way. I handed it off to my pal though and he thought it was pretty good. I couldn't leave hungry though, I got sushi and mochi. The sushi was alright, I've definitely had better. But for campus sushi it was pretty darn good. The mochi was alright, could have been colder but no complaints. I washed it all down with lychee juice, which was an interesting juice to have but it was great! Overall, this dining experience was nothing memorable, but for campus food, it was alright. I've certainly had better but I didn't want to throw up after eating this so I'd say it's not awful.

    Cold items and drinks.

Visit Date: 03.09.2010 On a visit to the Charles B. Wang Center at Stony Brook, this was the closest place for lunch (it was inside the center after all). All of the food being served looked like dining hall food, bland and not seemingly fresh. And the prices were up there, though they tend to give you a lot of rice. I had Indian curry served over rice, and it tasted okay, but it could have been much better. Once again, it tasted like dining hall food.

Both times I went there was a fully equipped bar downstairs but both times we were never given a drinks menu. I was looking forward to a cocktail since I saw some on their website, but I'm not going to order a fancy cocktail if I'm not given the drinks menu at the restaurant. We asked for a glass of wine and a beer instead, but that can also be risky (especially with wine) when you don't know what the price will be. I don't understand why the drinks menu isn't automatically handed out with the food menu. They had some beer taps, but as a beer person I can say the Hefeweizen was definitely off. Old, flat, darker in color than normal. The food was just ok, not bad, but nothing to ever come back for, especially at $20 for a couple of pieces of chicken and a side of rice. Service was also just ok. So quiet that it was hard for me to understand what was being said to me. No facial expressions, no words that would make us feel welcome and wanted there as guests. Third time might be the charm but I'll pass.
