Some are swanky and recently…read morerenovated (Cincinnati Ohio had a huge overhaul in 2020) while others are a little more rustic with older buildings that feel like part maze part school and equipment that has seen several trips around the sun. The Fairborn Y sits somewhere in the middle. Not new, not dilapidated. The free weight room is a converted racquetball court. The exercise machines are all in great condition, but feel squished together into one smaller room, so that when you are using the chest fly machine, you can feel the breath of the guy on the leg press machine and the grunts of the barbell warrior vibrate in your chest. It is close quarters, but everyone is polite. The locker rooms are located in a back hallway and up a couple steps and I don't know about accessibility options, but it is also tight quarters in the locker rooms, especially the bathrooms. Two stalls are jammed into a corner, so plan your potty visits with time to spare. It definitely gets the job done and you can get a great workout in if you already know what you are doing. But for people new to the gym or to working out, I think they could do a better job of making you feel welcome and making it clear who you can go to for questions if you have them. The front desk folks were friendly, but the three times I have been there so far, the staff member in the weight room is on the computer or their phone and doesn't even look up to acknowledge people who are at the water cooler 3 feet away. I'm not entirely sure they ARE an employee. All in all, it is a solid workout and a fine stop if you find yourself in town. You can't beat the YMCA network and as I travel all over, I am grateful to have a place to get my sweat on.

The gym most definitely pays attention to maintenance. The weights that they do have are pretty great. My biggest issue is that they are missing some machines. I have not found anything for calves (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE correct me if I am wrong) but there are a number of machines for chest. They also seem to be missing free weights. Again, please let me know if I am missing them. They have a nice out-of-the-way area for sit ups or stretching (not the most well-kept). They also offer classes, which I eventually would love to partake of. Locker rooms are old but well kept. They have a rule that says those with children over 10 years of the opposite sex must use an alternate changing area. Honestly? I think it should be over the age of 5 or 6. I really don't care to change in front of a 7 year old boy and I think the experience would likely be traumatic for the little one. I have never seen a little one in there though so I am not sure that it happens all that frequently. Overall, this is a great place to work out! Need a work out buddy? Typically the YMCA is known to be a helping organization in the community. I did not get this experience. When I called in, the call center girl was nit friendly, did not demonstrate empathy or understanding for what I was explaining. I had started the conversation by asking for the director or a supervisor and the call rep refused. I called back and left a message for the executive director. I then got a call back from someone who was taking the messages for the executive director. The Y at The Heights was unwilling to help me, adding even more stress to my already overwhelming situation. I work full-time, I am a single parent to 3 children and a full-time caregiver to a parent with Alzheimers. Shame of you Y at the Heights. You are not a friend to the community or those who need understanding and compassion. I give this organization, that truly only cares about $$$, zero stars.

The staff is extremely attentive, the coaches are very knowledgeable and the organization is top notch. To top it all off, the other athletes in the gym are very welcoming and hospitable. I actually visited during the 2017 CrossFit Open was even encouraged to do my workouts at their weekly Friday Night Lights event (held during the open). Regardless of business, I'm pretty big on customer service. AKP does it RIGHT!!! A lot of Planet Fitness franchises advertise 24/7 hours; this gym is a little different. Their weekend hours throw that off. The gym is always really clean and the staff is friendly. They are always playing music overhead in case you forget your headphones (workout CANCELLED in my opinion). And there are plenty of tv's mounted to keep your eyes engaged. I wish this gym would get rid of the ab center or 12 minute workout area and host classes. I don't see either area utilized often, and think people would really appreciate expert lead classes to reach their fitness goals. Although I have the black membership, I've yet to use the massage chairs or tanning beds. If you're looking for a gym to meet your basic needs: variety of equipment, free weights, not having to fight for machines and clean... this is a really good fit!

I realized I dropped two paper clip size pieces on the floor. I was gonna pick it up after I finished my workout but a staff member a lady was very rude . She said "I just got finished cleaning in hear" I wanted to tell her I was going to pick it up but she was so rude. After my workout I'm walking towards the door to leave around 2:30pm the same staff member gave me a death stare as I was walking pass her. I thought she wanted to fight me. I couldn't believe this. My fight or flight senses was aroused, I had to get out of there. I was to cancel my membership asap. PF needs to educate their staff on customer service. SMH
