I can't wait, after searching and getting quotes on Yelp, I based my selection on credible positive reviews and chose Phan Auto Repair shop in Mira Mesa. I usually go to bigger established shops, but sometimes those shops are notorious for being dishonest about parts and labor costs $$$$. And every time I take my car to a dealer for repairs, they want to buy my current car and sell me a new car, which is their mission, other than overcharge. This shop is in Mira Mesa, not fancy by any means: the waiting area was very dirty, no air conditioning, and not enough space as the seats were crammed up. My objective was to drop off my car for brakes repair and dash out. There were 3 guys working at Phan, I spoke to Dave and Lai. I had previously texted via Yelp and their response was faster than their competitors, in fact a shop across the street quoted me $300-$400 more!! They answered all my questions, concerns and after 4 hours, installed OEM brake routers, pads and sensors on my MBZ. During that time, I took a Lyft to UTC and watched a 3 hrs movie: Odyssey, had lunch and shopped. Shortly thereafter, I got a call saying my car was ready. Upon paying, I made sure my receipt clearly included a warranty. Be aware there is a 3% fee if you pay with a credit card. But I was glad new brakes routers, pads and scensors were installed at a reasonable price. Thanks to Yelp and Yelpers reviews about this shop. Glad there is no brake squeak and will keep my fingers crossed about this recent brake work as I had an overall positive experience from this great shop Phan's Auto Repair.

They seem to be good in telling you what needs to be fixed and not overcharging or telling you stuff needs done when it's fine

They had the change done in about 3 hours. I noticed a small leak after taking my vehicle home. I watched it for a day and asked them to check it the next day. They did so no questions asked and did a second check. They stated it was residual and assured me everything was good. They cleaned up any residual and topped me off a second time. No leaks since. I'm satisfied with their work and will likely take another vehicle in for the same work in the future. Didn't realize they also do other repairs here so I may keep them in mind for that as well.

Dealership said $5300 to repair torque converter or $12,500 for a transmission. I brought my car to JJ for a second opinion. He was very confident that my torque converter and transmission shouldn't be the issue and even if it was, it was not going to cost that high. He was thorough, running my car through diagnostics. Kept me updated at all times. Still not convinced that the dealership was correct. Researched my vehicle regarding my specific issue and saw there was a software update that describes fixing this issue exact issue. I wasn't sure it had been updated before. His mobile software guy came out, checked the car, and discovered the updates weren't done. Updates were installed, car was test driven several times, and transmission fluid was changed. It was 95% improved by the time I took the car home. By a few days of driving it around, the car is 100% better. All issues resolved. All of this was under $900, it wasn't the torque converter or transmission needing replacement AND he saved me thousands of dollars. JJ is now on mine and my family's list of mechanics to go to from now on. He is a straight shooter, is honest and will work to find out what the root of the problem is.

I wanted him to inspect my brakes and explained that my parking brake needed repair. I left my car and he told me he would call me when the car was completed. I received a call 2 hours later and was told my car was ready. He told me that my brakes were like knew and that nothing needed to be done. He took care of the parking brake and he helped me with some additional questions I had. The repair was fast and done at a reasonable rate. I brought in my Honda Ridgeline for an issue with my AC. Jason worked with me at the front-desk and went above and beyond to understand my issue and the troubleshooting I had already done. He explained to me CONCISELY what the feasible issue may be, and how they were going to approach a diagnosis. Jason was extremely knowledgeable, and followed up promptly to discuss the fix. Pedro was also exceptional. He found the issue (rodent-chewed wires) and repaired it perfectly. When I picked up my car, he was as excited as I was to have helped me. Before Miramar Auto, I took my truck to the Honda dealer, and they charged twice as much for a diagnosis, only to tell me that I would need a new compressor (incorrect diagnosis) and that it would cost twice as much as I ended up paying out the door at Miramar auto. I couldn't believe how easy Miramar Auto made it. To say that Jason, Pedro, and Miramar Auto are honest, fair, and made me feel taken care of... would be an understatement. I used to come here for oil changes for many years before Young was the owner and when Young was the owner. There is a new owner now that is rude and unhelpful. I made an appointment for an oil change and he took a walk in front of me. He was like " yes, what do you need? " all helpful as if the walk in was before me , he behaved as if I was the walk in and the guy who just walked in was the one with the appointment and it made me wait for a long time. Then instead of putting a new sticker in the car saying when the next oil service is due he wrote the numbers on top of the numbers of the sticker that was already there which makes it illegible. And all of this with very bad manners as if he was pissed off. This is the new owner so different from the previous one Young who was so helpful and kind. Today I called on the phone to make an appointment for an oil change. A lady picked up the phone and insisted I needed an appointment for an oil change and that it can only be in the morning. I told her I work and she started asking me if I had been there before. I told her I have been a customer for more than 20 years even before the new owner Paul bought the place. Her answer was that she can only give me an appointment in the morning and that I need to call in the morning to Talk to Paul. I know Paul is super rude so is not going to happen. I think I will have to go to John from John's auto services who is very close to Japanese Auto Tech. John can work in your car after 2 pm and even as late as 6 pm for people who work. I really wanted to continue with Japanese Auto Tech but being rude, making you wait when you have an appointment and saying " Oh she can wait" while helping a walk in and making it impossible to make an appointment unless is early morning has done it for me. I have a 2000 LX470. If you search and read about what a POS the ignition/anti theft lock system that Toy/Lexus developed for a $70k SUV, you will see it's a part, 4 inches long, made of pot metal. It has too endure the force of a twisting key and unlocking the steering pin. The avg. part MTBF is about 190k before it fails -WITHOUT WARNING. They changed the part for '03-on -You're a lucky owner. The Landcruiser/LX470 share the same part. The dealer will want to charge you north of $1600 to get your car back. I called three places before Japanese Auto Tech and caught Mr. Young on his way home. Mr. Young checked out the car and called the dealers for parts. He was shocked to hear the dollars they wanted for the parts AND the wait. I'm pretty good at sourcing and went through E-Bay and an out of state dealer to get parts in 3 days. Mr. Young took my Toyota parts and pieced the ignition and bracket back together. Took 3 days after the parts. The charge? CONSIDERABLY south of $1600 and just north of $400. On the road again for 180k+ more miles. Check out Mr. Young. he's a nice, honest and funny guy. He's got my business for my Lexus and I'm telling my family to try him too. read more

If you are trying to decide where to take your car for repairs, this is the place to go! The crew are extremely friendly and they make you feel welcome. The mechanic will show you straight up what is wrong with your car, tell you what will happen if you do/don't get it fixed, and then tell you how much it will cost. They don't try and talk you into getting extra repairs or scare you into blowing your money. These guys are very fast and efficient, it only took about 15-20min to diagnose my car's problem. The car was ready about an hour and a half later and when I went to pick up the car, they had fixed my bumper, which was sagging off, for free! Very nice bonus. If you for whatever reason still have doubts after all the 5 star reviews ... don't. They are awesome in every way. Young, the manager is awesome. Their repair service is honest, quick, and very reasonably priced. They throw in stuff for free. They're involved in the community and very responsible. They're selective about the parts they use so if you're looking to fix your car here, put your mind at ease. I'm sure they could make a killing selling those cheap Chinese fake sutffs that fall apart instantly but they have too much integrity for that. Last time I visited Young even called the dealer to find out warranty first before he started to work on my 2005 Bimmer. Thanks guys. read more

Just got hope from this place and was really impressed with the professionalism. Young Nguyen is the manager here and helped me with everything. The diognosis was quick, the repair was completed is a very timly fashion and the price was very affordable. What really impressed me is that they checked out the rest of the car as well, and noticed the the engine oil was low. Looking a little further revealed that the oil change service was due, and Young went ahead and changed the oil...free of charge!!!. As a new customer, I was really impressed with that and assured Mr. Nguyen that he had just made a customer for life!!! I will be back. read more

Best, friendliest most honest mechanics I have ever net! I truly recommend them! One time my mother of 84 years old took her car there another mechanic had told her there was something wrong with her engine and it would cost aprox. $800! She took it to Japaneses Auto Tech with Young and he call her back right away told her it was only a hose and that it would be $10.00!!! Plus he added a free oil change for her he said for the worry they put her they! How nice! And how honest!!! I love this shop! Now my whole family and friends take our cars there! Very trustworthy. I have been taking my car there for so many years for oil changes. At other places you take the car for an oil change and they break it or they say your car needs repairs it really does not need. Not at Japanese Autotech. They have integrity and they won't take advantage of you. I totally appreciate that. This is the best mechanic I have been to. They are both husband and wife, really nice people too! Good job! I continue to have a great experience with this garage. I have had my now 11-yr old car serviced there for the last 3 years and had no issues. Young is honest and helpful, taking the time to explain issues and showing you any problems firsthand. He also graciously took time to diagnose error codes I had when I had to smog my car. Went in for oil change, was told my car needed about $2000 of other repairs, and that opinion was given with out hooking up the computer. Went around the corner for a second opinion, found out my battery terminal was loose, mechanic tightened it for free and car was FINE. Japanese Auto Tech are incompetent, and dishonest! read more

This was a big job and I was nervous about the outcome because I didn't know John. The price was very fair. Less than a week later, I received a message that my van was ready for pickup. My wife and I were pleased with the smoothness of our van and to have all of the problems we had with the old engine gone. It has now been a year or close to a year since the engine replacement. Since then John has serviced all of our vehicles. We have been pleased with every job he has done for us and especially appreciate his integrity that allows us to contact him if we detect anything wrong with the repair. We've never had to contact him, but pleased with knowing he takes full responsibility for his repairs. For the last month, I've been driving my Toyota Avalon around scorching hot San Diego with no air conditioning. I took it to a nearby Honda service center only because they were closer to where I live. They quoted me over $1900 to replace the compressor and some other parts. This included labor. I brought my Toyota Avalon to John last night not expecting him to do anything until the next day. That same night, John texted me the fantastic news that he didn't believe my car needed a compressor, but was in desperate need of freon. John wanted to keep it overnight to see if he could detect any leaks. This morning, John contacted me to pick up my car! For the first time in over a month, my car felt like the North Pole. Don't usually do reviews or speak this much, but I owe this to John and his team for their excellent mechanic work and honesty.

The reason I am just writing a review after going to him for 8 years is because I was blown-away with my last service experience with him a few days ago. I took my 2011 Toyota Camry in for it's 60,000 mile service, which he did along with replacing my rear struts (which were original). My car is now running better than it did when I bought it 2 years ago at 35,000 miles. Not only that, but he completed all the work in 1 day and didn't charge me for an additional $600 worth of work. He is truly an honest mechanic and I can't recommend him and his shop enough. I won't take my cars anywhere else.

I found Sawaya Automotive online and brought the car in. I could immediately tell that I had made a good choice. The owner Tony greeted me in the parking lot and was incredibly friendly and helpful throughout the process. I would say my impression is that he is the most honest auto mechanic I have encountered anywhere around the US. It turned out that I had a very serious engine issue and that it was better to sell the car than get it fixed. Tony was so kind in explaining this to me in detail, and he never tried to convince me to pay for repairs that didn't make financial sense. It was not the news that I was wanting to hear, but that's not the fault of Tony or anyone else at Sawaya Automotive. If I ever need auto maintenance work again in San Diego I will definitely come back here."

The issue I was having was a check engine light with an evap code. The dealership could not pinpoint the leak? and recommended lowering the gas tank to further diagnose the problem. So I came here with this intention, though realizing that I would get charged another diagnostic fee. They started on it the morning after I dropped it off and within a couple hours they called and told me it was the vent valve. I was surprised since this was actually the easiest part to change, and the dealer was wrong or lying to me. I'll be going back hard and heavy to the dealership getting my money back, believe me.. But of course I was happy with this since the total job cost was several hundred less than expected! My car actually gets better gas mileage from this repair! Now I really did find an honest, reasonable shop for my Subaru and Toyotas. Another thing that was exceptional here was the follow up text from the owner, who seems to be there every day to interact and provide great customer service. He shows genuine concern for your satisfaction, which, I believe is unheard of in this day and age. He even sent me another message just a few days ago to ask how my vehicle has been running! An excellent business that I can't recommend more.

I found this place through Yelp and decided to give them a shot. I am really glad I did because they have officially become my go to shop. My first visit was for an oil change. The price was very reasonable compared to other places I have been to and the service was quick and straightforward. If you can, pay cash because you usually get the best deal. What really earned my trust is how honest they are. Recently my vehicle started acting up and showed a "Brake Hold" and "Hold" message on the dash. I thought it was going to be something expensive, but he checked it out and told me all I needed to do was disconnect the battery for about 20 minutes to reset the system. Sure enough, that fixed it. Not long after, my dash lit up with multiple warning messages and I thought I had a serious brake problem. I called him again expecting bad news, but instead of trying to sell me repairs, he simply told me to drive the vehicle and the messages would clear on their own, and they did. That level of honesty is hard to find. Most shops would have charged for diagnostics or unnecessary work, but he did not. If you are looking for a trustworthy and affordable mechanic who will not upsell you, this is the place. I will definitely be bringing all my cars here from now on. Highly recommend.
