Honest, affordable, and now my go to mechanic After moving offices, I needed to find a reliable mechanic shop closer to work. I found this place through Yelp and decided to give them a shot. I am really glad I did because they have officially become my go to shop. My first visit was for an oil change. The price was very reasonable compared to other places I have been to and the service was quick and straightforward. If you can, pay cash because you usually get the best deal. What really earned my trust is how honest they are. Recently my vehicle started acting up and showed a "Brake Hold" and "Hold" message on the dash. I thought it was going to be something expensive, but he checked it out and told me all I needed to do was disconnect the battery for about 20 minutes to reset the system. Sure enough, that fixed it. Not long after, my dash lit up with multiple warning messages and I thought I had a serious brake problem. I called him again expecting bad news, but instead of trying to sell me repairs, he simply told me to drive the vehicle and the messages would clear on their own, and they did. That level of honesty is hard to find. Most shops would have charged for diagnostics or unnecessary work, but he did not. If you are looking for a trustworthy and affordable mechanic who will not upsell you, this is the place. I will definitely be bringing all my cars here from now on. Highly recommend. read more

I've trusted Tahn with my vehicles for over 10 years, and I wouldn't take my cars anywhere else. Through multiple vehicles and countless repairs, he has always been honest, efficient, and fair. He takes the time to explain issues clearly, never tries to upsell unnecessary work, and stands behind everything he does. It's hard to find a mechanic you can truly trust, but Tahn has earned that trust time and time again. If you're looking for quality work, integrity, and excellent customer service, I highly recommend Quality Automotive. Thank you for keeping my cars on the road for the past decade! read more

Good shop with even better people. For sure will be my go to shop for my up and coming projects! read more

I brought my old 2004 Toyota for a check engine light issue so I can pass smog. I knew the problem but I could not afford to replace the catalytic converter at this time. Thanh helped me resolve it by replace the air quality valves and sensors, saving me thousands. He even took it to get smog for me. The service was amazing; he went above and beyond for an incredible reasonable price. read more

I bought 2 of that thing that holds up my hood. I forgot what it's called I asked if he can put it on for me and he was nice to take the time to put it on before he closed. I took my car here on the advice of a friend. Great experience so far. I had the brakes, spark plugs, and a couple other things fixed. I had a tire alignment at another shop where it was suggested that there was a rattling that might be caused by the new brakes. I drove back to Quality Automotive and had Thanh take a quick look. Turns out my hubcaps were causing the rattling. Quick diagnosis & I was on the way. Taking the car back next week for an oil change. read more

I was looking for a new mechanic bcuz Jimmy at the Pit Stop Auto Shop disappeared out of noooowhere (literally, me and all my friends that went to him have no clue where he disappeared to). Anyways, whatever happened to Jimmy, I hope he's well. But I'm diggin this place. One of my friends & her family have been going here for over 10 years so I thought okay why not. Literally I loveeee this place. The prices are really good here and I got 3 things done for my car in an hour. They're also really honest here which I appreciate! Thanh is such an informative and honest and nice guy...I trust and value his work on my cars!!!

The only place I take my cars to. They are very honest and fair. The best alternative to the dealer.

Tyson is the man bar none. He worked on 3 different vehicles of mine each with at least 100K on the clock. Great pricing and super super flexible given how busy he is. I moved out of state back in 2020 and unfortunately, I haven't found a local place here that I can depend on like I could with Tyson. read more

Just a little back story, my battery light came on in my 2000 Excursion (dodges stones & tomatoes). Right....well....as I was saying, my battery light came on so naturally I think of two things 1.) Battery (smart guy right?) and 2.) Alternator. I go the easy route and replace the battery. Now since all my cash is tied up in gassing this bastard up, I opt for the Bosch instead of the fancy pants gel battery. I like Bosch. That said, out with the old in with the new. I take off and go see "Prometheus" that night, which was really entertaining but confusing. I mean who talks to a alien like it's some sort of kitten....seriously. The movie is over, I walk to my truck and..................................she fires right up. Things are looking, oh....wait a minute. The Voltometer is looking a little off. Maybe because it's chilly outsi.....wait what?!?! It's Dropping?!? Great. The next few minutes were me coaching my truck "C'mon baby, just get me home. Five more minutes C'mon." What does she do? Well I'll tell you, she did what any Ten Cylinder beast would. She said F-You and kept dropping. I wind up at my exit, sputtering mind you (Genessee off the 163 south). I hang a right and approach Genessee & Linda Vista.....by the way I went to the 10:40PM showing of the movie. It's not roughly 1:30AM. She sputters, chugs, coughs while coming to a red light. Instead of turning left (to salvation), I turn right.....hang a U-turn and die at a bus stop. I think the Prius Gods were trying to tell me something there, but I'm not listening for now. Now I'm dead, Truck won't start & I'm sitting at a bus stop across the street from a bar. I was tempted to go grab a beer...buuuut there were some very large, and very single ladies out there. I think a few of them took off on Harleys, but that's another story. AAA shows up in time for some dude to hop the curb, hop the median, hang a U-turn and fly past us.....ok time to go now. Fast forward about 9 hours. I need an Alternator, aaaaaaand it's Saturday. Crap. I muster all the strength I can and grab my laptop, open it, pull up yelp....and look up "Alternator". Easy right? Wrong. Everyone was either booked up until later in the week, or just laughed...set the phone down, and continued to laugh. When I thought all hope was lost. An Angel came into my bedroom, grabbed my laptop, and in a booming yet soft voice said "Dude, go to Quality...jesus.". I figured he/she knew what was up. I gave them a call. Q.A.: Hello Me: I need an alternator Q.A.: What vehicle Me: 6.8L Excursion V10 Q.A.: Bring it in, I'll be done in the afternoon Me: Booyah, see you soon! I get towed there and dropped off. The owner/mechanic (name escapes me) comes out, pops my hood, climbs in, says I'll call you. I make the 4 mile walk of shame back home. Lay on the couch for about an hour when Quality calls me and says the truck's ready. When I get there I was getting ready to bend over the counter when I was presented with the bill. $240.00 That's it? I was expecting maybe twice that give or take. I gladly paid the man, and almost gave him a kiss (I didnt, my wife was waiting outside). Long story short (LoL) I will be going back to Quality Automotive again! But hopefully not anytime soon! Thanks for reading. For the TL;DR folks. He's good, fair & fast! read more

I have a Honda Civic 2002 that had oil leaking into the oil pan so I thought MAYBE, I just needed that replaced. Good thing the mechanic here caught on that I wasn't even sure and told me he'd check what it was first before he replaced and charged me for something that wasn't even broken. I can't say specifically what he ended up finding was the problem because I just don't know what that part was, but whatever he did, worked. The part got replaced, and I waited a few months to make sure it's working fine and my car has been swell since then! I will come back for whatever needs I have in the future. BTW, I personally thought this place was sort of hidden because the sign didn't stand out as much as the other places like "ORW" or whatever. But just an FYI, they're located behind a veterinary hospital. read more

I wouldn't trust my vehicles with any other shop. Tyson runs a small family business that I have relied on for more than 15 years. I have recommended his shop to my family and closest friends and everyone has had the same takeaway: "Tyson is the best mechanic I have ever done business with! Why didn't you tell me about his shop sooner?" I consider Quality Automotive to be the most trustworthy, knowledgeable, reliable, and customer-oriented auto repair and maintenance shop around. I am always accommodated around my schedule, the work is done quickly, he has routinely recommended waiting for certain repairs, or avoiding them altogether. I can rest assured that his prices are fair and the work that he does is of the highest quality. I have never had to return to the shop after a repair for any reason. Ultimately Tyson truly cares about his relationship with each customer and understands what it takes to develop longstanding business. He will keep your car running properly for years! read more

THANK THE HEAVENS for amazing and honest people like Tyson at Quality Automotive! My friend and previous manager has been going to Tyson for all his auto repairs with European cars for the last 15 years, and after I went to BMW to get a general check-up of my car and mentioned that I recently needed to add oil, they asked if I wanted to do diagnostics (which cost extra, of course!) to see if I had a leak. Then I got a lovely call from BMW stating that there was 3 potential sources of the leak, but they couldn't determine exactly the source. I got slammed with a $5900 quote to replace the oil gasket, oil filter housing and oil pan! BASICALLY, how much my car is worth if I traded it in! INSANE!! Luckily, I conferred with my brother-in-law who's friend owns a European auto-body shop and stated that even if the dealership were ripping me off (WHICH CLEARLY THEY WERE), that it should not be more than $3000. In addition, he stated that in his 10 years of owning his shop, he's NEVER replaced the oil pan on a BMW. So, I called my friend who I knew went to a local autobody shop, and he referred me to Tyson. When I spoke to Tyson on the phone, he told me to come in any time and he could take a quick look. But even on the phone, he explained very quickly and easily to me, with leaks it's like a showerhead, you start from the top and work your way down. Makes sense right?! I dropped by later that day and with a flashlight, he showed me where he thought there might be leaks and told me he could get a quote on the parts. Within 24hr, Tyson's estimate to replace the oil gasket and oil filter housing was around $200 for parts and $550 for labor. SERIOUSLY?!?! Over a $5000 difference?!?! As we ALL know, dealerships will always mark things up but that's just OUTRAGEOUS! I brought my car in a few days later and Tyson was able to complete the work the same day! There was about a $30-50 difference b/c he had to fix a couple of other parts, but I know he did great work and he is honest and reliable! All I can say is, if you're looking for quality and you want someone who's reasonable, reliable and just, Tyson at Quality Automotive should be your first choice! read more

This is a very delayed review of Quality Automotive, but I feel I need to say some great things about the establishment. I took my old Honda Civic Wagon there roughly 3 years ago due to a clanging noise coming from my transmission. Not long after I brought the car into the shop, the owner called me and told me I needed a new transmission, and he could get one cheap from the junkyard and replace it. He also recommended servicing the flywheel and a new clutch. He would throw in new rear drum brakes for free. I said OK. Not 3 hours later, he called and told me it was all done. The transmission was replaced, the flywheel was serviced at an outside machine shop, the new clutch assembled, and the brakes good to go. I arrived later that day and was greeted by cheerful, singing garage staff. The owner took me into the garage and showed me the old tranny, complete with broken ball bearings and all, and the nearly bald clutch he replaced. The whole process cost me about $1000 for parts AND labor! On the way out, since Balboa is a busy street, the owner stopped traffic so I could turn left out of the driveway. What a great deal! Unbeatable prices, extremely fast service, friendly employees, and, best of all, TRUSTWORTHY. I would recommend this mechanic to anyone. read more

I'm a guy, and as a guy, I work on cars in my garage. I have my car jacked up every weekend and I'm either in the hood or you can see my feet sticking out from under the car. Or, at least that's what I should be doing, right? Well, seeing as how I don't know too much about cars beyond the basics, whenever I get a funny noise or a new light on my dash, I take my whip to Tyson at Quality Auto. My dad found this garage probably close to 20 years ago. Since then, everyone in my family takes their car to him and I recommend this place every time I can. I have many friends that still take their cars to him. He's an honest grease monkey and does good work at good prices. I've brought my car in a few times for random questions or small things, and never has he charged me for his time or any small adjustments he had to make. Don't expect the same, cause he and I are bros, but if you keep taking your car to him and build a rapport, maybe in a decade or two you can be as special as me (I'm just kidding, I'm sure he does this for everyone) Drive safely fellow Yelpers! read more

Best service HANDS DOWN!!! Tahn is by far the most honest mechanic I have ever done business with. Don't know how he makes money sometimes... I have had work done here many times and out of curiosity have ask other mechanics for a quote on the same job and it's sometimes double... If you want good QUALITY work at good prices and most importantly not over sold on stuff you really don't need this is the place to go. Would NEVER let another person touch either one of my cars.... I think Tahn is the owner that's who I deal with!!!! It's hard to get honest mechanic work done these days seems everyone is chasing a buck and want to over sell you . This guy is opposite even if you want it and it's not needed he won't do it.... I love this place ... Love this shop! Tyson offers kind, fast, quality service and runs a fair, no frills business that I am happy to recommend to others. Being a young, unmarried woman makes a lot of routine tasks, like getting your car serviced, really scary. I am constantly worried about being taken advantage of and not listened to (check out my recent review of Kearny Mesa Toyota for example of the kind of experience I dread), but not here. I am so grateful to have been referred to a place that makes me feel taken care of and not just a wallet to squeeze. read more

I've been going to Tahn for over 12 years. He knows cars and knows how to make an honest buck. I have many female friends who know nothing about their cars and they don't want to be ripped off. Quality is the place I send them. If there is one thing to say negative, it's that his shop can get very busy at times. But that just means that everyone else wants a good, honest mechanic working on their cars. Thanks, Tahn and keep up the great work. read more

I came from LA to visit a friend in San Diego, who recommended Thanh's place, Quality Automotive. By far THE BEST experience I've ever had at any auto shop. I did the rotors, replaced Water Outlet Housing, changed oil, rotated tires AND did a full tune-up with platinum spark plugs and guess what, it was less than.... $300... I decided to keep my 2005 car, and in a few weeks when I'm back here, I'll go there to do other stuff. Love the place, excellent SUPER PROFESSIONAL service and most importantly, in the LA area I was quoted $500-700 for the same job! Definitely recommended!!! read more

This place is the best place to take your car to get fixed. The guy there is very good at what he does, and he's HONEST. I had a friend take his car to get fixed, then my friend also showed him how his convertible top was loose. My friend had another auto mechanic quote him an outrageous price to fix it b/c he said he had to order a special part. Well Quang at Quality auto basically fixed the problem with a small zip tie and then told my friend no charge. It was a simple fix but it did the trick and saved my friend a LOT of money. After i heard that story, i took my car there to get fixed and have had great experiences everytime. He never tries to upsell you on crap, and also lets you know about how to prevent problems in the future. His prices are really good too, I wouldn't go anywhere else. I've since moved to LA so I haven't visited the shop, but just today, on my way to San Diego to visit friends, my car engine started giving me problems, I took it there on saturday morning and he fixed the problem right away - engine oil low! read more

He commented that " you don't go into a restaurant and bring in your own steak". I did not appreciate that comment. Unfortunately I will not return to the facility for future auto work. read more

I started taking my cars (a Saturn and now a Scion) to Ty over at Quality Automotive about 6 years ago. My step sister referred me and her mom had been going there for years before that. It's a pretty bare bones establishment, no plasma TVs or wifi but I love it anyway. I've brought my car in, told Ty the problem (or the symptoms if I can't figure out the problem) and he'll stop what he's doing, pop the hood right there, tinker around for a minute and then show me exactly what needs fixing. Prices are basic, he breaks out the book he orders parts from, quotes you the price and then tells you how much for labor (cheaper than dealers easily). Only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because the office is so old and beat up so if you wait while he's working, it's kinda grim. But the work he does is good and he's always really nice. read more
