I came here at the recommendation of many local people who lived in the surrounding communities (Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch). I took a chance and texted the number provided and also messaged on Facebook. It did take a couple of prompting messages, but eventually John got back to me and he was very nice in corresponding. I needed to get brakes replaced for a 2022 Lexus GX. It was to the point where the breaks are squeezing and I was concerned driving with kids in the car. John told me to stop by so he can assess and when I did, he was very honest and told me that I only needed to replace the front brakes and the rear breaks were still good. He ordered the brakes (only a day) and I was able to drop off my car early (leaving keys on a secured and locked bin). He was done with my car within a couple hours. I was amazed on how quick, friendly, and easy the entire process was. John was very honest and personable. He is very experienced and shares his space with a neighboring business so his overhead keeps his prices very fair and reasonable. Needed to repair/replace a bad head gasket for a 2014 Prius Plug-In with 200,000+ miles after taking it to the dealership and getting quoted for $5K repair. Asked around online and no one else was willing to do the job due to the high mileage. Spoke to John online/text and ended up deciding to replace the engine altogether with a JDM engine at almost half the cost. Completed the job in a timely manner despite seemingly being a one-man shop. This was in May 2024. Wanted to wait some time to see how it went before leaving a review. I needed to find someone to do all the complicated stuff I don't want to do myself (AC compressor, steering rack, front wheel bearings, etc.). I've called and compared a dozen shops around San Diego and no one beats John's service, honestly, and price! He's a busy guy and might not get back to you instantly so you may have to be persistent to get an appointment but I promise it's worth it. These guys were awesome to work with. One of my P/S hoses was leaking, tried to replace it myself and ended up rounding off a seized fastener. John got me a good quote for labor within an hour. I brought my car in, they busted my balls for trying to do it myself and making the problem worse (understandably) but are very friendly guys. They had to order another part, I expected the final labor cost to be higher since the repair scope expanded but they stuck to the original labor quote and just tacked on the price for the part. I haven't personally used John's services but would like to based off of his responses to my questions and reasonable prices ! Long story short: I found out i had a bad alternator during a battery replacement with triple A and was panicking since one of my worst fears is getting stuck in the middle of the highway. John is SO quick with his responses and answered all of my questions! I genuinely felt like he wanted to make sure I was making informed decisions. I also did not feel pressured and he told me to take my time with making my decision so that was a BIG green flag for me! OH! Already mentioned but prices were also very reasonable too! (I've gotten many quotes from Yelp). If my friend did not refer me to one of his mechanics, I 100000% would have felt comfortable going to John (I'm actually a bit bummed I'm not going to John! Came by because I kept hearing a screeching or cricket noise in my car. I thought it was the brake pads or rotors. I called and John gave me one of the best offers especially when considering the parts he was selling. I called about (7-9) places. When I rolled in he was super nice and very pleasant to speak to. One man show, understaffed, nowhere to sit, fast-talker. I went here for one thing, which he refused to solve after I waited several days for a convenient time for him. However, he was happy to solve another problem I didn't even know I had. I was quoted one price to replace a part, which was loose but was not broken and did not need replacing. After waiting a whole day without resolving my original problem, when I thought I would be waiting just an hour, I learned that quote was just the price of the part. I was then informed about his price for labor. Looking over my receipt, I found that the only thing that was worth replacing was an $8 bolt. I learned so much from this experience. read more
