John is the best. They work extremely fast and offered a great price for the maintenance repair for our car. Will be going back to do the tune up when it's time. read more

John is the man! Called about an issue with oil pan damage and he was able to slot me in and get me serviced the same day right after I called. He was upfront and extremely fair with pricing and clearly told me the valuation of each service and was very easy to talk to. What was also great was him sending updates as the service was done to show the progress. I rarely write reviews for any experience but this needed to be done as someone who doesn't deal with mechanics often. Will definitely be coming back for any car needs and will refer him to friends and family for sure! read more

This quiet, humble man and his team run one of the best shops in San Diego County. John was referred to me by another mechanic when I was in need of an engine replacement for my Honda Minivan. This was a big job and I was nervous about the outcome because I didn't know John. The price was very fair. Less than a week later, I received a message that my van was ready for pickup. My wife and I were pleased with the smoothness of our van and to have all of the problems we had with the old engine gone. It has now been a year or close to a year since the engine replacement. Since then John has serviced all of our vehicles. We have been pleased with every job he has done for us and especially appreciate his integrity that allows us to contact him if we detect anything wrong with the repair. We've never had to contact him, but pleased with knowing he takes full responsibility for his repairs. For the last month, I've been driving my Toyota Avalon around scorching hot San Diego with no air conditioning. I took it to a nearby Honda service center only because they were closer to where I live. They quoted me over $1900 to replace the compressor and some other parts. This included labor. I brought my Toyota Avalon to John last night not expecting him to do anything until the next day. That same night, John texted me the fantastic news that he didn't believe my car needed a compressor, but was in desperate need of freon. John wanted to keep it overnight to see if he could detect any leaks. This morning, John contacted me to pick up my car! For the first time in over a month, my car felt like the North Pole. Don't usually do reviews or speak this much, but I owe this to John and his team for their excellent mechanic work and honesty. read more

I had to fix a rear brake issue and had a leaking water pump and need oil change. I was able to get it all fixed for under dealership market price. John is knowledgeable, transparent, hardworking and good at his craft. Your car will be in good hands! Also, his costs are highly competitive. His shop closes at 9p so it's super helpful for people who work a 9-5p. Anyway give this guy your business! Super underrated! read more

Great repair place. John was super helpful and communicative with the whole process. Was able to fix my AC issue in a timely manner and was transparent with the fix. Will come back for future repairs. read more

Had an issue with my Lexus making a weird humming sound. John was able to see me right away and we did a quick test drive and he was able to troubleshoot it was the wheel bearing quickly. He ordered OEM parts but at a fair price. Super easy and friendly to work with. read more

This was such an amazing experience! I came in to check out some banging with my car related to my control arms, and the service was so thorough. Not only did he fix my control arms, he filled my oil and balanced my tires, all for less than the originally quoted price for just the arms! He also did it in half the time originally estimated! I am so happy with this experience, and will definitely be coming back for any car care needs. read more

John is very smart and understands and studies car systems and parts. He explains well the problem and the fix. He keep old parts around to help you understand the problem. He is always open to questions and knows that quality work, parts, and happy customers will help everyone in the long run. read more

I came here at the recommendation of many local people who lived in the surrounding communities (Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch). I took a chance and texted the number provided and also messaged on Facebook. It did take a couple of prompting messages, but eventually John got back to me and he was very nice in corresponding. I needed to get brakes replaced for a 2022 Lexus GX. It was to the point where the breaks are squeezing and I was concerned driving with kids in the car. John told me to stop by so he can assess and when I did, he was very honest and told me that I only needed to replace the front brakes and the rear breaks were still good. He ordered the brakes (only a day) and I was able to drop off my car early (leaving keys on a secured and locked bin). He was done with my car within a couple hours. I was amazed on how quick, friendly, and easy the entire process was. John was very honest and personable. He is very experienced and shares his space with a neighboring business so his overhead keeps his prices very fair and reasonable. I would 100% recommend getting your car service with John! read more

UPDATE: I have continued to use John over the last two years for several cars and referred friends to him. John was able to take care of me and my need for a used transmission. He was able to find a low mileage unit and got my car up and running in no time. Definitely go to John for all your auto repairs! read more

Needed to repair/replace a bad head gasket for a 2014 Prius Plug-In with 200,000+ miles after taking it to the dealership and getting quoted for $5K repair. Asked around online and no one else was willing to do the job due to the high mileage. Spoke to John online/text and ended up deciding to replace the engine altogether with a JDM engine at almost half the cost. Completed the job in a timely manner despite seemingly being a one-man shop. This was in May 2024. Wanted to wait some time to see how it went before leaving a review. Over 10K miles later, Prius is still running great and still the go-to for trips up the coast to LA, Santa Barbara, etc. read more

John is amazing mechanic who offers great prices. He has helped me fix so many things and is willing to explain things. For instance, my timing belt was making noise he replaced it and after he put a new belt my alternator pulley was still squeaking. Instead of pushing me to purchase a new one, he ensured me I would be fine. read more

John is the best!!! I was in a real bind and he was able to help me quickly and solved the issue. Good price and is very knowledgeable, friendly, and he is open later than 99% of the shops around which is awesome. read more

John changed out my engine air filter (a bit more involved on my model car) for a great price. He even ended up checking the computer (check engine) codes for no additional charge. A huge thank you to John Tran, John's Auto Sevices for helping me out with my car problems today. John is so helpful and honest. If you are looking for a dependable mechanic who provides quality work, John is the man. Thank you again! read more

I haven't personally used John's services but would like to based off of his responses to my questions and reasonable prices ! Long story short: I found out i had a bad alternator during a battery replacement with triple A and was panicking since one of my worst fears is getting stuck in the middle of the highway. John is SO quick with his responses and answered all of my questions! I genuinely felt like he wanted to make sure I was making informed decisions. I also did not feel pressured and he told me to take my time with making my decision so that was a BIG green flag for me! OH! Already mentioned but prices were also very reasonable too! (I've gotten many quotes from Yelp). If my friend did not refer me to one of his mechanics, I 100000% would have felt comfortable going to John (I'm actually a bit bummed I'm not going to John! My gut feeling says to do it but my friend referred me to someone). Next time I have car issues though, I probably WILL go to John. Heard great things on Yelp and his interaction with me was A+. Thank you John!!! read more

I needed to find someone to do all the complicated stuff I don't want to do myself (AC compressor, steering rack, front wheel bearings, etc.). I've called and compared a dozen shops around San Diego and no one beats John's service, honestly, and price! He's a busy guy and might not get back to you instantly so you may have to be persistent to get an appointment but I promise it's worth it. He's worked on my Acura and my E36 BMW, as well as my friend's cars without issue. This guy knows what he's doing. It's the shop immediately to the left of Lo Sieu's Smog Check, no exterior signage yet. read more

Back again twice this past couple of weeks. One was a radiator leak and the other was the door lock. John is just amazing and provides exceptional service. But most importantly, he is so honest and accommodating which is hard to find these days. It's a family business with his Dad working shoulder to shoulder with John. So glad to see that he has expanded his business and now has a few more bays. I remember when he only had one. Even thought business has grown, he is still humble and caring and the quality of work is still excellent. Very much recommended. read more

Best auto service shop in San Diego. My Tesla's compressor broke, got quoted $4000 at Tesla dealership. Luckily I found John. The car was fixed on the same day for a fraction of the price. The service was exceptional, it's good to know the mechanic that I can fully trust. read more

Had a loose cover under my car scraping the road, and I needed it fixed ASAP before a long drive to NorCal the next day. It was already 6:30 PM and most shops were closed--except John's Auto Services. John took a look, fixed it up quickly, and got me on my way with super friendly, professional service. Total lifesaver. Thank you, John -- really appreciate the help! Highly recommend! read more

After taking my 2014 Tacoma to three different shops--only to have them hand the keys back without finding the issue--I was frustrated and honestly worried about driving. The noise coming from the rear while driving forward made the truck feel unsafe. John stood out right away with his honesty, kindness, and personalized customer service. He took the time to ride with me, listened carefully, and had the problem diagnosed within hours. He explained everything clearly and gave me a fair, reasonable quote to fix it. His team was knowledgeable and worked together efficiently to get to the root of the issue. It's rare these days to find this level of quality, value, and trust in auto repair. John has earned me as a customer for good. Highly recommend read more

John responded very quickly and also was able to get my car in the next day. He has great pricing and fixed a lot of things for my car in one day when Valvoline charged me more than double for everything. He even put pressure on my tires for me. Highly recommended! read more

These guys were awesome to work with. One of my P/S hoses was leaking, tried to replace it myself and ended up rounding off a seized fastener. John got me a good quote for labor within an hour. I brought my car in, they busted my balls for trying to do it myself and making the problem worse (understandably) but are very friendly guys. They had to order another part, I expected the final labor cost to be higher since the repair scope expanded but they stuck to the original labor quote and just tacked on the price for the part. They got the repair done within a few hours of dropping my car off. Will be coming back here for sure, price out the door was maybe half of what the Lexus dealership wanted for the part itself read more

John did good work for a fair price at first. Then he ordered a part and said it would be there in a few days. That was the last I've heard from him. Completely ignoring my attempts to contact him for a month. I don't know if he's okay or if he closed his business but he doesn't reply. I will update this review if I ever hear from him. read more

His turnaround time was quick without sacrificing workmanship. Overall, if you're looking for a knowledgeable, honest, and approachable mechanic who delivers great work without any hassle, I highly recommend John. Great and affordable service. Very friendly. Staying open late helps a lot. Was able to solve my tire low pressure issue.

John is very responsive. He was quick to reply with a very reasonable quote when I inquired about removing and replacing my shocks and struts on my Lexus NX. I was able to make an appointment over text and he was kind enough to send me a reminder the day before along with instructions on how to locate his shop. He was professional and knowledgeable. Came by because I kept hearing a screeching or cricket noise in my car. I thought it was the brake pads or rotors. I called and John gave me one of the best offers especially when considering the parts he was selling. I called about (7-9) places. When I rolled in he was super nice and very pleasant to speak to. Like all the other reviews said, he doesn't try to upcharge you. He's very upfront about pricing and what needs to be done. So he won't upsell. He was done within an hour and showed me how bad the brake pads were. Would definitely go again if another issue arises. read more
