I rang and made a booking for my partner and I to this restaurant on a whim, Saturday night... We had a pang for some tasty Japanese and had noticed a few decent reviews for this place which is located close to my abode.
Arriving at around 7:45 I was surprised at the large amount of activity and buzz around Keys St in Beaumaris. Wow it sure does get busy! Luckily there is a substantial amount of nearby parking in the surrounding streets.
The restaurant was also abuzz (careful can get very loud) and most tables were full....this is generally a good indicator of restaurant quality in my book. Make sure to book to avoid dissapointment if you plan on sampling Japan Inn's tastes!
A decent array of dishes can be found on the menu, trying a combination of dishes seemed like a good idea and a Banquet was selected.
"Banquet A" was kicked off with a large bowl of delicious miso soup, a standard yet tasty start which whet our appetites for something a bit more substantial.
After a little wait the rest of our Entrees arrived:
Ebi Sushi - Tasty Prawn on a bed of rice Sushi
Salmon Roll - Deliciously tasty and refreshing Salmon rolls which went nicely with the accompanying ginger slices
Teriyaki Scallop - Nice sweet teriyaki sauce which was not too heavy, scallops were nice and fresh
After a little hiccup involving a waitress' elbow and our bottle of merlot (strange choice for Japanese I know) we moved onto our mains which were equally nice. Pacing was good, didn't have to wait an exceptional amount of time between the Entree and Main.
I've tried a lot of tempura in the past and the main of Tempura battered prawns and vegetables was pretty standard - nothing horrible, nothing spectacular - a nice rice vinegar base accompaniment added some flavour.
The Beef Teriyaki contained some really juicy and tender beef which was as delight - I really enjoyed this dish which was cooked perfectly.
Moving onto the refreshing Dessert Moriowase - a mix of fruits with green tea icecream and a red bean pancake(appeared to be from a packet not made in kitchen) along with a nicely made coffee was a nice finisher to the evening.
In summary if you are looking for a good quality, well priced evening with friends Japan Inn is well worth a go. Dish size contained in the banquet was decent but not substantial, I left satisfied yet not stuffed to the brim. read more
