A healthy amount of ginger really set this dish apart and overall I was pretty happy with it. 4 stars for food. I wouldn't go back (at least for dinner) because of the price, however. I know Melbourne is expensive, but with 100k Chinese places to choose from, I think I will spend my money on excellent rather than merely good Chinese food. In addition, the service was very bad. I waited for at least 20 minutes after I was finished for my food to be removed and then waited for another 15-25 minutes to get my bill. I never did get the bill. Eventually I just decided to go downstairs and ask for my check and pay myself. Bad service on one occasion does not necessarily mean that service is always or even mostly bad, but with so many other options to choose from, why risk it?

To put this into perspective, next week we're travelling to asia to do just that. Anyhow, I digress. The point is we get through a lot of steamed (and fried) parcels of deliciousness. Ripples in Bentleigh (not the other Ripples which I'm lead to believe is less than fabulous) is rather tremendous. Take a look at the pictures I've uploaded and you'll see how fresh everything is. This is now amongst our new favourites in Melbourne. So why only four stars? Well... the debate at our table came to the conclusion that you can't give a place 5 stars when you've only been once. Surely at least a star should be reserved for consistency. Anyone can have a great experience once. It's really not my thing, but I'll also say this - Ripples is extremely child friendly.
