I've eaten at Jirochyo several times and I have been quite frankly blown away by the quality of…read moreservice and cuisine every time. I plan on being a long term patron and feel I've found myself The Japanese Restaurant of choice in the South Eastern suburbs. The decor is clean and authentic, sporting metal tables, adorable Japanese art and mood lighting. There is a Sushi Chef at the end of the restaurant who you can watch prepare your fresh sushi or sashimi, it's a delightful place to be if you truly appreciate Japanese food and culture, as I do. The staff are incredibly sweet and attentive too! The menu is authentic. There is a couple if ways to approach ordering depending on your mood, group and such. The entree options can be ordered almost like tapas, the mains are filling on their own or you could order the platters of sumptuous sushi with fresh wasabi and tasty pickled ginger (not the sad looking pink stuff.) You can leave satisfied on $20 or $60. I think even if you are Japanese foods number one fan or just discovering the hidden treasures of the cuisine, I can not imagine you will not be pleased with your visit to this fine establishment on Hampton St. Enjoy!

One of the best sushi joints in the area! Sashimi very fresh! Melts in your mouth fresh! Thinking about it makes me want to go back now!! We also ordered the Sama Fish. This was amazing. Grilled to perfection! Beware it can be a bit too fishy for the uninitiated. The surprise quality of the night was the the agedashi dofu! Best I've had in a long while. Decent amount of bonito flakes sprinkled on 4 cubes of perfectly cooked tofu .. lightly fried on the outside with soft centre tofu inside. This mixed in with a salty bonito broth!!!! OMG!

Zipang is a tiny Japanese eatery that delivers big. Well loved by locals it's the go-to place for…read morequick, affordable, no frills Japanese dining in Hampton. Sure, Hampton Street has sushi places and Japanese restaurants, but Zipang sits somewhere in-between both. It's a quirky little Japanese cafe with the zippy name, odd opening hours, polite Japanese staff, and a penchant for playing The Beatles quietly on a never ending loop in the background! But did I mention the food is outstanding? No matter what you order Zipang doesn't disappoint. The food is prepared quickly and presented with attention to detail. Whether you're after gyoza, sushi, a don, or perhaps chicken katsu, Zipang has got you covered. Most mains are served with rice and a fresh salad with Japanese mayonnaise. If you want a delicious lunch, sit inside and try the grilled Salmon Teriyaki (but make sure to get there early!) - lunch hours are from 11am-2.45pm and last orders for in-store dining are taken by 2.30pm. Dinner hours on the other hand are from 5.30pm-8.30pm. Zipang is open every day except Sunday's and it's advisable to book a table for Fri and Sat evenings if you wish to dine in. It's small, it's not always open when you crave it, but Zipang is worth the trouble... you'll love the food, oh and I hope you like The Beatles!

Zipang is a fantastic culinary member of the Hampton Street community. I have said in previous…read morereviews that I believe consistency is one of the most important things if not the most important things a business can offer, Zipang certainly gets 5/5 for that. Their food in my experience has always been cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. Sure, it's a quaint looking corner store across the road from the loud train station, that you could almost miss, but locals will tell you, when it comes to affordable, tasty Japanese in Hampton, Zipang is the place to be. You really only need to come once to see it is packed with devotees. It's quite cramped in the restaurant, if you're a fan of eavesdropping, this may be the place for you. In saying that, the food is so good that everyone is happy to sit close and pretend we aren't hearing what the other is saying. I like it actually. There is outdoor seating too. I've noticed the staff never forget customers out there either, which is often the risk with sitting outside.. The menu is not terribly vast but includes the essentials such as; miso, sushi, sashimi, udon, gyoza, octopus balls, katsu curry, teriyaki and a few authentic surprises that are done incredibly well. It is BYO and cash only, which is an annoyance, but there are many ATM's near by in all fairness. There is a lunch special which is worth checking out. Tonight I absolutely stuffed myself with two sushi rolls, a share in octopus balls and an udon and only paid $22.70. I don't know about you, but I think that's pretty good, considering the quality food, which is mind blowing and fresh, if I didn't make that clear earlier. The mains range from $10-$16 and entrees $6-$14. The staff are very friendly and attentive, slightly too busy at times to to be super on the ball, but trust me, once you're there and in the vibe you won't much care. There is very limited seating and opening hours are brief, so best call ahead to avoid disappointment or just get take-away, which they so timely pump out. Give it a shot!
