Jamie is an awesome human being and her work makes her even awesomER! I worked with Jamie for 6 months and she has changed the way I eat. She didn't make me give up "bad foods" and she didn't make me go vegetarian. Jamie changed the way I look at foods (ketchup is all sugar) and the way I eat (pile on those leafy greens!). I learned to cut out most sugars and I now shop regularly at Whole Foods for organic everything. I've cooked and eaten foods I never tried before and I feel fantastic! But Jamie isn't just about nutrition - she's a Lifestyle Counselor! Over this past year, I've golfed, tried my first spinning class and gone on long-ass hikes as ways to motivate my body to move more! Jamie never makes you feel bad about your choices because ultimately, your life is all about the choices you make. No matter what you do, she is always there to lift you up with encouragement. She's almost like Jiminy Cricket on your shoulder. Thanks to Jamie, I am a healthier, happier foodie and I'm wearing jeans I haven't worn since last spring! read more

Jamie is fantastic! Her modus operandi seems to be to get to know the client, THEN tailor the lessons, not try to proselytize, preach one magic cure-all diet, or "fit a square peg in a round hole," so to speak. There isn't the slightest bit of self-righteousness or judgment in her lessons, and she seems to have a genuine interest in ME and working around my needs; she takes my concerns and restrictions and "translates" them into new habits that I can work with. She is gentle, but firm, and I learn more from her in one session than I ever have from a book. (Un)Fortunately, she has revamped and improved my eating habits so much that I don't need her anymore, and yet, even though I'm essentially done with my sessions now, I'm looking for excuses to keep coming back. She will change your life. read more

Jamie is truly amazing. I enjoyed working with her on many levels. As a health/nutrition counselor she is extremely knowledgeable. She provides her services with great structure, which is vital for success, but she let me set my own goals. She did not push her own agenda. She followed my lead yet guided me along the way. My eating habits changed in such a way that I can continue my new healthy eating practices for the rest of my life. On top of all of this, Jamie is a joy to work with. She is sweet, sincere, dedicated and professional. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking to make subtle, yet powerful changes to their lifestyle regarding nutrition and healthy eating. read more

Jamie's amazing!! I consider myself very fortunate to be one of her clients. This is not a diet - this is a lifestyle program! One that incorporates good food, healthy living and a balanced life. Not once have I been told to exclude anything from my diet. Amazingly, however, all the bad stuff just goes away and is replaced by nutritious and yummy (!!!!!) foods. Jamie spends so much time getting to know her clients... She knows my lifestyle habits inside and out and is always looking for ways to help me. Our twice-monthly sessions are rejuvenating and keep me focused on my goals. While I'm not trying to lose weight, I find that I have so much more energy and a healthier body (I haven't had so much as a cold since becoming a client). I highly recommend speaking to Jamie. Before you know it, you and your family will be in the midst of living a healthy life! read more

Jamie has a great down-to-earth style of speaking about nutrition. Because her talks are more conversational, I never felt like I was being lectured on how or what to eat . It was more of a "here are the tools, lets figure it out" style of speak. She also seems to get that everyone has different needs. She is very attenetive to these individual needs and is quick to provide great resources and valuable insight into eating right for me. I look forward to attending more of her workshops. read more

Working with Jamie Living was truly a life-changing experience. Before working with Jamie, I never cooked (I was scared of the kitchen, in fact!), I rarely exercised, and I didn't know how to eat properly. Through my work with Jamie, I started cooking for the first time in my life and now I absolutely love it! There is nothing more satisfying than preparing a delicious meal (and knowing exactly what ingredients are going in your body). I exercise regularly and have found ways to move and work out that I never thought I'd enjoy before this experience. I have more energy, I have more motivation, and I am far less critical of myself. I've lost some weight and have gained a whole lot of self-confidence. This whole process wasn't about dieting and it wasn't about a quick-fix. It was about a change in my lifestyle, a change in how I view food, a change in how I view (and appreciate!) myself. Jamie is so intelligent, encouraging, and kind, and it was always wonderful to talk to her and check-in. She valued every question I asked and never made me feel silly. She really focused on my individual goals and sent me recipes and offered guidance and advice to fit my personal needs. Jamie really gave me the best gift I could ask for -- the tools to continue and move forward with this healthier and kinder lifestyle for the rest of my life!! read more

Jamie is wonderful. She jump started the Wellness program for our company, and has done a great job motivating our employees to eat healthy, think positive, and gear towards a better way of life. She is a fantastic speaker, and engages everyone as she does the Lunch & Learn presentations. She is also very pleasant to work with, because she has such a great energy and vibe about her. Some of our employees had signed up for one-on-one sessions, and rave about her too. I look forward to continue working with Jamie =) read more

Jamie is truly a gem - she's enthusiastic, dedicated and incredibly knowledgeable. Jamie gets it when it comes to food AND lifestyle. But, it doesn't stop there. She really understands that we're all totally different - from tastebuds to cravings to triggers. She wisely takes the time to really understand her clients and to tailor plans to their needs and partner to set goals accordingly. If you're thinking about taking steps to change your lifestyle, I'd encourage you to consider working with Jamie. She taught me a lot about food, balance and myself. read more

I've always been an overweight, unhealthy eater. I had tried a lot of things to change my habits and always ended up failing. I finally decided, after seeing a family member go through gastric bypass surgery, that I needed to make a serious lifestyle change or end up down a road I didn't want to be on. I did a lot of research into nutritionists and finally decided on Jamie after reading her philosophy and glowing reviews. Even after the first consultation she had me thinking about food and my health differently. One of the first things she said was: "It sounds like you know what you want to do, you just don't have the focus to do it". Working with her gave me the focus I needed. Not once did she say the word diet. With her guidance, eating healthy did not feel like a chore, but a fun opportunity. She helped me create a regular exercise routine that I actually look forward to for the first time in my life. She never made me feel like I was forcing myself into doing anything I didn't want to do. If I tried and didn't like something, she was open to talking about it and had a new alternative to suggest. Sessions with her were always an encouraging experience. She had an answer to any questions I had or any situation I needed advice on. I think that one of the biggest lessons she taught me is that habits don't change overnight. If you fail today that's ok, you always have tomorrow. If you're looking for a way to change your health but don't know where to begin or are tired of trying and failing, Jamie is the perfect answer. read more

I'm amazed with Jamie's work. She was able to work with my lifestyle to come up with baby steps towards my specific goals. She was consistent in her focus, attentive to my concerns, open minded about what I do, and *very* knowledgeable. Her suggestions and recipes were not only tasty, practical, and easy to adjust into having regularly, they also had my friends asking for recipes and making lifestyle changes along with me! She taught me that it's okay, actually *useful* to listen to what my body is craving (fats, salt, sugar, etc) and taught me how to understand what those signals mean about my overall health. I really appreciated the holistic nature of her work. I've known for A while that there's much more to what I do than "what is good for me" and Jamie was tuned into that from the start. She showed me a new way of mapping my self care that I'm certain I will use for the rest of my life. Also, Jamie took the time to help me come up with a nutrition plan for my trip to the desert, and the results were *phenomenal*. I've never felt so alive, centered, and nourished by my food in that environment as I did while eating Jamie's suggestions. Just like what I've been eating at home since I started her program, it was taaaaaasty and a reminder to be aware and loving towards my whole self. What a gift! read more

I have known Jamie for years and when my doctor told me I couldn't eat any more sugar, I gave Jamie a call. Jamie knows that I am a total chocoholic and she gave me a few suggestions of what i could eat. Those suggestions completely changed my life! It's incredible, I no longer crave sugar! Not only do i not crave sugar, I can actually fit into my jeans that have been uber tight! Wow!!!! If she can do that in one session, I can only imagine what Jamie can do in a few months. Thank you Jamie! read more

Jaime is awesome and she counsels you how to live your life in a balanced, healthy way. She takes time with her clients to go over everything in their life, not just their diet. But finds out about work, exercise, home life, etc.... All round after working with Jaime for a couple of months you will feel so much better all around. It's amazing! Much much more energy. She teaches you how to use food to energize your body, and how to use food for prevention against illness and pain. She structures a health program that is individualized to you. I love her and really believe that my health is so much better because of her health and life style counseling. Check her out, you will be so happy you did! read more

I heard about Jamie from a friend who told me she had great recipes for healthy food. I'm already pretty healthy, and knowledgeable about nutrition, but I have a 3-year old son and wanted to get some really great recipes, and to do more cooking at home. As it turned out, Jamie is about so much more than just great recipes (though her recipes are good and very healthy). One of the first things I loved about Jamie's approach is that she focuses on adding healthy foods to your diet, rather than restricting or eliminating. It's a subtle way of getting you to eat better. I signed up for a 6-month series with her, and found that it isn't just about your food. I've had various things come up in our sessions (ask Jamie about primary food), and no matter what was going on for me, she was always supportive, compassionate, accepting of me, and often a voice of reason and balance. Finally, after a few months, a miracle happened! I started cooking and eating most of my meals at home--and loving it! I actually prefer my own food over what I might get in a fancy deli or great takeout place. I've been someone who would buy great organic food, and then let it go to waste in my refrigerator because I didn't have time to make anything for myself. Now I love to make things, using all kinds of ingredients. Working with Jamie has had a huge, positive impact on my life. read more

I am so happy to have met up with Jaime! I first participated in a teleclass of hers, which was great. It was full of practical information that I could relate to and apply to my life right away. She sent handouts via email ahead of time, so I had the information that I needed to use as a reference; and she really knew her stuff. I didn't feel judged or embarrassed for admitting my "food vices" either! She's very practical when it comes to understanding that people need to understand why they might want to change their diet and that change is a process. She's supportive and real...and knowledgeable in so many areas about health and wellness. Since that class I have become a regular reader of her blog, http://jamieliving.blogspot.com, which has yummy recipes! If you check that out, you'll get a good feel for who she is because she usually writes a bit about why she has chosen that particular dish to share. I absolutely recommend her if you are wanting to make changes in how and what you eat, as well as with your overall well-being. Plus, she's just a cool person to know! read more

Wow...there is so much to be said. Jamie is extremely knowledgeable about food. I'm always filled with questions to ask her and she's 100% willing and able to answer them all. She tells you the facts and if you want, her opinions as well. She comes full circle in that you can ask her nutrition questions all the way to a broad spectrum of other/general life questions. Her health talks are great, her cooking classes are fun, recipes pretty simple and always so very yummy - haven't had anything I didn't like. Jamie is also very positive and fun. She's always chipper and has a great attitude and is very encouraging. I truly appreciate and feel grateful to have her help and influence. read more

I am a huge fan of Jamie and wanted to add to the chorus of gushy reviews. I approached Jamie when I was experiencing severe joint pain and wanted to try an elimination diet. She was a genius at helping me figure out what to prioritize, and how to work changes into my hectic lifestyle. Improving my approach to nutrition is an iterative process, one that I am taking it in stages. My next project was increasing my protein intake, and Jamie had some really good suggestions about that too. She also provided great ideas for working on portion control. Next I want to tackle things like reducing carbs/glycemic index and cooking at home more. Her suggestions have been inspiring and sometimes genius. Quite a few of her ideas about approaching food or trying new types of food have really resonated and become something I've incorporated into my life. She is a foodie, knows a lot about nutrition, is non-dogmatic and open to researching new issues, and appreciates simplicity. And throughout everything, she stays focused on understanding the individual she is working with, figuring out things I'd like within my taste and lifestyle preferences/constraints, or encouraging me to venture on things that are great extrapolations from what I already like. Jamie is a far better health ally than I could have imagined, and her support and enthusiasm and great ideas are hugely helpful. read more

I found Jamie Dougherty and Jamie Living by searching for a nutritionist on Yelp. After reading about her background on her website, I thought our philosophies about nutrition meshed well and I decided to do her 12-session individual program. I continue to cook with the recipes that Jamie provided me and I have stuck to a healthy diet ever since. If you are looking for a nutrition counselor, I can't recommend Jamie enough!! read more

I was ill for a number of years with a mysterious stomach issue left over from a serious illness. I tried everything and was told numerous things by many doctors...lupus, lyme disease, MS. Finally someone suggested I try going on an elimination diet. I was hesitant and frankly pissed off to have to do yet another thing to figure out what the doctors couldn't. I found Jamie on Yelp and through my kicking and screaming, we figured out through an elimination diet and a careful adding back in of foods that I am deathly allergic to Canola oil. Jamie was great. I was not the easiest client and she was very professional and at the same time, had a great sense of humor. I would never have stuck with the elimination diet, and ultimately figured out what was making me sick, without her help. She is very sharp, knowledgeable, and if she doesn't know something, she figures it out. I highly recommend her. Its like having someone in your corner at all times. I can say for the first time in five years that I actually feel good....a feeling I thought was out of reach. Thanks Jamie! read more
