We floated in July 2012 and had a great fun. We used our phone navigator to find this place from…read moreBranson, MO, which took us around some winding but pretty streets. We rented a canoe for $35 for two adults and a dog. They also had kayak and tubes for renting. The check-in place is really small but people there were really friendly. They sell river essentials like sun block and water shoes and the prices seemed reasonable. We brought a cooler with drinks and sandwich. I did not see many places to shop around so I would def recommend packing your own food/drinks. The river itself is real pretty but was quite low (which we knew before going). There were some places we had to push the canoe. It may be a little difficult to maneuver if you have never canoed before. Water was pleasantly cold/warm. They had life vests we could borrow for free but we didn't need them, as the deepest the water got was about 4-5 ft. There were no rapid currents, which worked well for our puppy. There were only a few other families when we went and people were very friendly. Very quiet and no crazy parties going on, which was nice. Overall, we had a good time and if we lived around here, may come back a few times a summer.

where do I start? The only reason you got one star is because I could not give you a half!!!!!If…read moreyou are planning a float trip do not use James River outfitters!!!made reservations for 23 people and full payment 2 weeks in advance. scheduled shuttle time was 10 am, arrived 10 minutes early, waiting in long line for check in. finally got to counter and was informed that there was a shuttle fee of $30 for each floating cooler one way . This was an additional $180 cost! there was no mention anywhere when on website! when we inquired about transporting the coolers ourselves, we were told we could not do that; don't know if that meant that it was private property or there was no public access. We surrendered because we had no other options as far and paid their huge fee. Waited over an hour for transportation to put in spot, our group was split up in two buses, loaded kayaks were blocking the seats before we were allowed to get on, and passengers were scolded because some younger people did not climb over the bus seats and were expected to do so versus the older passengers!!! Shouldn't have had to climb over the seats at all. This is also a safety hazard, probably against the law. We finally arrived and only one person there to assist our large group and many other people to put in the river. They did have outfitted canoe kayaks staged for our group, but other groups were taking half of the one set aside for us which further delayed us another 45 minutes, we finally got in the river only to find out that three of the kayaks were broken. Overall, I would rate this outfitter as the worst I have ever seen personnel under demand equipment, and very poor condition. Operation for basic services was not very well organized. Needless to say we will never return to this outfitter or recommend anyone else use them. In fact we will recommend they use anybody else than James River Outfitters!!!!

Normally my family and I will camp and float at a campground a little closer to our home in Kansas…read moreCity, but because of the weather, we went on the hunt for a new spot! It was a beautiful drive to Trigger Gap and it was easy to find. From our campground to the pick up spot was a quick walk down a small trail. The campground was nice, but there is no running well water and the porta potty was hidden. The water felt amazing and was crystal clear. Great spots for kids to jump from rocks and places to rest. We brought our dog and he's never had so much fun in his life. When the float ended, there was a smoker where they were handing out pulled brisket sandwiches with chips. I've never experienced that in all my years of camping and floating. It felt like we were at a big camp out with our family. All of the campers and floaters were around the smoker and hanging out. I heard there was a band that came during the evening...? THE PEOPLE may be some of the nicest people I have EVER come in contact with. My gosh, this family is so accommodating and so friendly. It felt like you were at a cookout with your family and friends. I would absolutely chose this campground over our usual camping spot.

I really loved the amenities such as pizza and firewood delivery. The pizza tastes like buffet…read morepizza. Sweet crust and greasy, everything you need after a long float trip. The water shoes in the shop were a fair price. The large cabin was perfect, being close to the main cabin. I would've preferred having outlets where we slept, which was the pullout couch under the stairs.

Overall, I recommend this campsite. I booked this last minute, so one of the few spots that were…read moreopen was at the late night loop. The noise ordinance is midnight for the rest of the campsite other than the late night loop which is 2 AM (or at least that's when things got quiet). Our campsite had great shade but wasn't on the water (late night loop 104) but was near the bathroom which I appreciated. The showers and toilets could be cleaner but I feel like there is only so much they can do with the amount of lake swimming and sheer amount of folks using the restrooms. I definitely recommend water shoes not only for the lake but also the showers. Although I brought supplies for making French press coffee, I ended up getting an iced late at the coffee shop in the main office. We had some of the breakfast buffet (carton eggs, sausage, hashbrowns) and it was all pretty good. We signed up for a glow tube night trip on Friday and a float trip on Saturday. Both were fun but I don't think I'd need to do 2 float trips in a weekend in the future. The resort drops you off at the tubing drop site up the river and you end either at the resort or a mile up the river where they'll bus you back. It's pricey but it does include a lot of amenities and is definitely a one stop shop for tubing. I think next year we'll look into the cabins or pods. ;tldr it's pricey but you get hot showers, toilets, coffee, and busing for the float trips built in. Late night loop is rowdy so if you want something more quiet, consider avoiding this area.
