This was our first time to visit Camp Tomahawk and it was really fun, however, the place looked really sketchy. There were campers with junk everywhere, nothing clean and neat. Looks like many live here long term. The cashier seemed really confused on prices. I thought I had read online that we could use a cooler tube for free for every 3 people we had, but she charged $5 and gave us a receipt to show the bus driver. When we arrived at the drop-off sight the bus driver didn't get out, just said help yourselves to the tubes and off he went. We ended up not needing the cooler tube, guess we donated $5. It was really relaxing floating down the river, just wish there was a little more communication with the people that work there. Also would encourage some clean-up to make people feel more comfortable and welcome.

When you pull up to this place, it does seem a bit sketchy. Lol. There are these weird bubbles to the side where people live in? And inside the public bathrooms there is a laundry unit. Lol not sure if the owners live here or if that is for the campers. But regardless, the people are really nice. The price to float all day is really cheap also. But we also bought the water shoes and they all ripped halfway through the float so the quality on that was big poo poo. The bus that picked us up to float and it was super old haha. The bottom glass piece on the door was shattered out. Not sure what happened there. Might've even been the super bumpy ride to the start of the float. Lol but they did have a huge pile of floaters and tubes. And nice variety of tube options - if you wanted to lay out of be in the water to float. Good options. And you could tie your floats all together. The water is really really shallow the whole float so it does stay relatively warm and there are fishes. But they had two rope swings and with the super shallow water, it's a bit unsafe to be jumping from the swings since you basically land and then stand up. It's probably only 4 feet of water... yikes! But the float takes about 1-2 hours so it's a good time overall and everyone working there is really nice. It was also relatively empty. I did have a good time there but not sure if I would go back!

    Beautiful scenery for our float

I highly recommend this!! It was a little tricky finding it, but WOW! So glad we did!! The tubes very high quality...my husband and I even had a double tube which was great! This river is PERFECT for a fun, relaxing, scenic float! It took us about 90 minutes and if you want to do it again it's only another $5!!

Perfect spot for our picnic lunch

The picnic table had nails sticking out and one got me under my fingernail. Bring a lot of leveling blocks. Tall Pines employees and campers alike are allowed to speed through the park, nearly running people over in the process, but will complain about your children in a heartbeat for playing outside at all. Despite the posted 5mph signs throughout the park, as well as signs we ourselves have provided, they do nothing to ensure safety; no one is at the park to run the office, or provide essential or necessary maintenance. They only come to the park when there is a complaint about children, or the cops have been called. Laura, who lives and works on the grounds, drives through the campground in her black Nissan Titan like she is a Nascar driver, and has almost hit kids and adults doing so. No one tells her to slow down, just to keep the kids out of the way or leave the park if you can't keep the kids under control. As far as pricing goes, Christina will offer a fair price to start, then recant on her decision despite proof of receipt, or how far in advance you pay on said quoted price. While the campground itself is a beautiful place to be, the owners are very lazy. They put more effort into their (Best Western) hotel, where you're more likely to find the staff working and avoiding campground calls, than you are to get anyone's attention inside the office, or to actually run the park. We were treated very poorly by the staff during our short stay here, despite our best efforts to try to work with them to make this a safe place for all. They were unwilling to take any sort of accountability, or give any corrective action to those who were more willing to remain uncooperative. Do not plan on making this a full time home for you and your family. It will only come down to Christina being at your residence for unjustified complaints that they can't prove one way or the other who is at fault. I would leave 0 stars if I could. This place is an absolute joke.

They are putting in a lot of effort to improve the park. The family that runs it is very nice and helpful. It's located right across from the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. We walked over one afternoon and took the tour of her home and walked through the museum. Neat place. The RV park is very grassy with gravel. Our site was pretty level and had lots of shade. Not all sites have full hookups so be sure to ask when you reserve. Some are just W/E. There is a creek that runs along the property that is cool and beautiful. Fun to splash in. Lots of trees on the property. There is also a small pond, a natural cave to explore, and plenty of areas to walk your dog if needed. A bathhouse next to the office has two restrooms, two showers, and laundry. We used the showers twice. They were small, but clean. The bathhouse is not air conditioned or heated so summer showers can be a bit hot and muggy and I imagine winter showers quite chilly. THE WIFI IS AWESOME! I could not believe such a small RV park had such great wifi. Thank you, Riddick family! The small town of Mansfield is just down the road. We enjoyed the local icecream shop as well as the pizza and pasta restaraunt. Overall, this is a great RV park. We will definitely stay again if we're ever in the area again.
