This was an additional $180 cost! there was no mention anywhere when on website! when we inquired about transporting the coolers ourselves, we were told we could not do that; don't know if that meant that it was private property or there was no public access. We surrendered because we had no other options as far and paid their huge fee. Waited over an hour for transportation to put in spot, our group was split up in two buses, loaded kayaks were blocking the seats before we were allowed to get on, and passengers were scolded because some younger people did not climb over the bus seats and were expected to do so versus the older passengers!!! Shouldn't have had to climb over the seats at all. This is also a safety hazard, probably against the law. We finally arrived and only one person there to assist our large group and many other people to put in the river. They did have outfitted canoe kayaks staged for our group, but other groups were taking half of the one set aside for us which further delayed us another 45 minutes, we finally got in the river only to find out that three of the kayaks were broken. Overall, I would rate this outfitter as the worst I have ever seen personnel under demand equipment, and very poor condition. Operation for basic services was not very well organized. Needless to say we will never return to this outfitter or recommend anyone else use them. In fact we will recommend they use anybody else than James River Outfitters!!!!

Despite the posted 5mph signs throughout the park, as well as signs we ourselves have provided, they do nothing to ensure safety; no one is at the park to run the office, or provide essential or necessary maintenance. They only come to the park when there is a complaint about children, or the cops have been called. Laura, who lives and works on the grounds, drives through the campground in her black Nissan Titan like she is a Nascar driver, and has almost hit kids and adults doing so. No one tells her to slow down, just to keep the kids out of the way or leave the park if you can't keep the kids under control. As far as pricing goes, Christina will offer a fair price to start, then recant on her decision despite proof of receipt, or how far in advance you pay on said quoted price. While the campground itself is a beautiful place to be, the owners are very lazy. They put more effort into their (Best Western) hotel, where you're more likely to find the staff working and avoiding campground calls, than you are to get anyone's attention inside the office, or to actually run the park. We were treated very poorly by the staff during our short stay here, despite our best efforts to try to work with them to make this a safe place for all. They were unwilling to take any sort of accountability, or give any corrective action to those who were more willing to remain uncooperative. Do not plan on making this a full time home for you and your family. It will only come down to Christina being at your residence for unjustified complaints that they can't prove one way or the other who is at fault. I would leave 0 stars if I could. This place is an absolute joke.

They are putting in a lot of effort to improve the park. The family that runs it is very nice and helpful. It's located right across from the Laura Ingalls Wilder museum. We walked over one afternoon and took the tour of her home and walked through the museum. Neat place. The RV park is very grassy with gravel. Our site was pretty level and had lots of shade. Not all sites have full hookups so be sure to ask when you reserve. Some are just W/E. There is a creek that runs along the property that is cool and beautiful. Fun to splash in. Lots of trees on the property. There is also a small pond, a natural cave to explore, and plenty of areas to walk your dog if needed. A bathhouse next to the office has two restrooms, two showers, and laundry. We used the showers twice. They were small, but clean. The bathhouse is not air conditioned or heated so summer showers can be a bit hot and muggy and I imagine winter showers quite chilly. THE WIFI IS AWESOME! I could not believe such a small RV park had such great wifi. Thank you, Riddick family! The small town of Mansfield is just down the road. We enjoyed the local icecream shop as well as the pizza and pasta restaraunt. Overall, this is a great RV park. We will definitely stay again if we're ever in the area again.

Our campsite had great shade but wasn't on the water (late night loop 104) but was near the bathroom which I appreciated. The showers and toilets could be cleaner but I feel like there is only so much they can do with the amount of lake swimming and sheer amount of folks using the restrooms. I definitely recommend water shoes not only for the lake but also the showers. Although I brought supplies for making French press coffee, I ended up getting an iced late at the coffee shop in the main office. We had some of the breakfast buffet (carton eggs, sausage, hashbrowns) and it was all pretty good. We signed up for a glow tube night trip on Friday and a float trip on Saturday. Both were fun but I don't think I'd need to do 2 float trips in a weekend in the future. The resort drops you off at the tubing drop site up the river and you end either at the resort or a mile up the river where they'll bus you back. It's pricey but it does include a lot of amenities and is definitely a one stop shop for tubing. I think next year we'll look into the cabins or pods. ;tldr it's pricey but you get hot showers, toilets, coffee, and busing for the float trips built in. Late night loop is rowdy so if you want something more quiet, consider avoiding this area.

There are many spots and some have electric while others have both electric and water. The spots are for varying size trailers/RVs or tent camping. They're spaced nicely so you have a little privacy. It's absolutely beautifully. I felt like I was in a rainforest. Although we had some on and off rain... the campground is very much in nature, green, lots of trees and waking up to birds chirping was lovely! I will say, there were some disrespectful neighbors camping, which can be expected, that stayed up until 3 am partying, loud music, drinking, etc. I think the park host paid them a visit and it was much quieter after 10pm. The bathrooms are also available with private toilet and shower combos. I will say... they were quite disgusting. Constantly wet and humid inside from the showers, visible mold on the walls and ceiling and rust and corrosion at the base of the doors. I had brought my own portable potty and small shower tent, but was informed that was against campground policy and told to take it down. Other than that, it was great. Has a playground, nice walking, beach, and close to some markets and restaurants.
