As far as dumps go this one is pretty deluxe. Really clean (I know that seems unlikely--and indeed…read morethis doesn't include smells), and the staff here are super friendly and helpful. You drive up on a scale and they weigh your vehicle, then you drive into a massive building and dump your junk. They reweigh your vehicle and charge you based on the weight of crap you threw out. This isn't a "landfill". It's a processing station. From what I've seen watching their videos, Portland's solid waste is trucked out into the high desert somewhere and buried in a landfill. This transfer station works to pull out all of the recyclables before that happens. Remember to cover your load.

As a remodeler I go here all the time and I appreciate just about everything this place has to…read moreoffer - it's usually an efficient operation and my visits are painless. This review is really only to address the poor service of one employee - Charles (older, Black male) - who was working at my last visit. I pulled my vehicle and trailer quite far into the public entrance and waited a few minutes for someone to approach (there was no one visible). After a few minutes I looked around and to my left saw Charles sitting down in a chair - he looked to be texting on his phone. I yelled out "hello?" and he ever-so-slowly came over and proceeded to start the process (I had paperwork) so slowly without a greeting and in such a disinterested manner that I wondered if he had fallen asleep standing up. He turned a quick paperwork collection and inspection into a painfully long process where he barely moved. Felt like he was paying me back for disturbing his slumber. Maybe he can retire or find a place where he doesn't interact with paying customers?

Coming from Michigan where the bottle drops are included in every major supermarket, it seems like…read moreall the bottle drop areas have sticky floors and are kind of smelly. Why is it that it is impossible to keep clean? At the very least, there wasn't a line and I love how the machines were able to accept multiple types of bottles (in Michigan, glass had to go to a separate machine, where here everything can be accepted in one machine, making things more efficient). There was a counter that was staffed by a worker, but I didn't interact with them. The handwash station came in handy after dropping the bottles off and had hot water and soap. Win! It also seemed like there was a bathroom, but I didn't use it. Overall, I think I had a good experience recycling.

I usually just use the drop at Fred Meyer but I needed to cash out. I was expecting the worst. I…read moreremember in the way back doing this before my grocery shopping back when stores had their areas and you had to do it yourself. So I remember the smelly can/bottle area. There was a line but everyone seemed pretty chill and I was not waiting very long. The parking lot was an easy in and out. I happen to drink two different sodas which the machines do not like. I brought those to the counter and the very nice people wrote those out on a ticket for me. The cash out machine is super easy to use. And they have a bin to put your bags in if you want to let them do it and credit your account to use later. I really love that you get 20% more from choosing a store credit. Normally I do that but having this option be way easier than I thought was nice. Disclaimer - yes, it smells and they have a sticky floor because they are a can and bottle recycler and people are not exactly rinsing their cans/bottles out. There are a lot of folks collecting these side of the road. Just saying... be kind and mindful. We are all just doing our best to get by. And you also have the option to donate your funds to a non profit that speaks to you if you have the privilege to spare some funds.

I have to say, junk removal prices are absolutely insane these days. For a trip to the junkyard (or…read morein some cases, a restoration business), charging people an arm and a leg is anti-consumer. Junk King is like most other options, unfortunately. The way they charge is not to benefit the customer, but their own circumstance. This means they will charge based on how much space your items take up in their truck. Even though, they get charged to drop it off at the dump the same rate we do (maybe even less because they make so many trips?). Why can't it just be a flat fee for items? For a love seat and a three seat couch, we were charged $218. The next lower tier would have been $168. Even $168 is tough when usually, you can get your local neighbor on Nextdoor to do it between $100-20. But I digress. Judging by their space in their truck, you could probably fit another two or three of what I had them take. On a positive note, they were able to come the same day, but their tactic of coming out to give you a quote after they look at it, more than likely, will get you to pay whatever they want because you just want the stuff gone. That's their tactic, I guess, although, I don't agree with it. I also don't like the idea of having my debit card entered manually into a phone. There should be a more secure way to pay. Have some cash ready if you don't want to pay with cards. If you have time, and aren't in immediate need of a removal, call a few other businesses around town before you call Junk King. You'll save some money.

I had several people offer to do the task, and settled on a fellow who was supposed to come today (Monday) to take care of it. After the time he was due to be here he let me know he was unable to do it so I had to scramble to find someone else. I found this company Slam Dunk Junk. I gave them a call and spoke with a very nice fellow, Scott who said that they could definitely take care of this for me today!! I sent him pictures of the 'junk' and let him know what the other fellow had quoted me, and he came in right on par with that quote! All along the day, I received updates about when the fellows would be here, when they were enroute and when they had arrived. The fellows that showed up, Connor and Tony, were polite and respectful and got right to work. It took them all of about 30 minutes to clear everything out that I needed removed! It was dark, but they had headlamps on their hats and did a fantastic job!! (they even did this with a stand in truck because their regular truck blew a tire and had to go into the shop!) From start to finish this was a smooth operation, VERY well run and managed and an EXCELLENT value for the cost of the job!! Hands down I will be calling upon them again, when I need stuff hauled off! Oh and after they were done, I received a message thanking me for my business!! Absolutely STELLAR!!
