Coming from Michigan where the bottle drops are included in every major supermarket, it seems like all the bottle drop areas have sticky floors and are kind of smelly. Why is it that it is impossible to keep clean? At the very least, there wasn't a line and I love how the machines were able to accept multiple types of bottles (in Michigan, glass had to go to a separate machine, where here everything can be accepted in one machine, making things more efficient). There was a counter that was staffed by a worker, but I didn't interact with them. The handwash station came in handy after dropping the bottles off and had hot water and soap. Win! It also seemed like there was a bathroom, but I didn't use it. Overall, I think I had a good experience recycling. read more

I usually just use the drop at Fred Meyer but I needed to cash out. I was expecting the worst. I remember in the way back doing this before my grocery shopping back when stores had their areas and you had to do it yourself. So I remember the smelly can/bottle area. There was a line but everyone seemed pretty chill and I was not waiting very long. The parking lot was an easy in and out. I happen to drink two different sodas which the machines do not like. I brought those to the counter and the very nice people wrote those out on a ticket for me. The cash out machine is super easy to use. And they have a bin to put your bags in if you want to let them do it and credit your account to use later. I really love that you get 20% more from choosing a store credit. Normally I do that but having this option be way easier than I thought was nice. Disclaimer - yes, it smells and they have a sticky floor because they are a can and bottle recycler and people are not exactly rinsing their cans/bottles out. There are a lot of folks collecting these side of the road. Just saying... be kind and mindful. We are all just doing our best to get by. And you also have the option to donate your funds to a non profit that speaks to you if you have the privilege to spare some funds. read more

Four full green bags dropped off, zero time wasted in line. This is still my favorite time saver. I haven't been making as many trips here as I used to, but having the green bags is still one of the best things. I have learned that there are still better times to drop off the bags to be sure that my account gets credited the same day...that is early. But I have never needed the deposit money that urgently. This location needs tons of improvement. Since they allow people to deposit bottles and cans individually, the floor is wet, sticky and smells like beer. I'm happy to buy the bags and tags, even though there is a cost, so that all I have to do is place all my recyclables in the authorized bag, affix the label that indicates my account, and drop the entire bag off and be on my way. Since I had never been to this location before, I waited in line. When the attendant saw I had a bag he asked if the Label was attached. I said yes and he abruptly grabbed it from my hands and tossed it into the corner without a word. Rude. At the NE Hollywood location, which is where I typically drop off recyclables, they only accept authorized Bottledrop bags of recycles so the process is fast, clean, no lines. They have a door that you open, place your bag inside, done. No lines because there is no machine Where you insert one bottle at a time. Happened to be running errands in this part of town but next time, I will plan better and head to my regular drop off. This place is SO gross and actually dangerous. The floors are usually covered in various liquids and very slippery. Lawsuit waiting to happen! The entrance needs to be throughly pressure washed. They have tons and tons of money. At least TRY and make it a pleasant environment. What is even the point of the bottle bill anymore? When it was put in place there was no curbside recycling. Now there is. It should be abolished. It certainly isn't green when you think about all the CO2 it takes to handle this material over and over and over. Curbside is already in place. This location is very filthy and smelly because the employees don't clean the floors or machines. They don't care if this location is clean or as dirty as a sewer line. Each time I come in, at least one machine is out of order. On my last visit, four machines were out of order and there were at least ten people waiting in line less than an hour before closing. There are not enough trolleys to hold our cans and bottles so we have to place our bags on the wet and filthy floors. They should purchase more trolleys for each machine. Employee assistance is nonexistent when machines stop working or there are other issues. We have to wait forever if at all before a bored employee comes in and investigates the stopped machines. It seems they don't have the knowledge in fixing those machines. There often is no employee available at the front desk at all. Security guards are major d*cks. They spend a lot of time looking at their mobile devices instead of keeping their eyes on the location and ensuring safety within and around this location. They are no help when machines have issues. read more

I was honestly uncomfortable for these two women. He ripped the young girls bags from her and dragged them outside because she was standing next to her mother. Then made her carry 4 giant bags that were the same size as her. Then he proceeded to hover over them like they were doing something wrong and followed them all the way to the cash in stand. It's like all BottleDrop locations: sticky floors & broken machines. During the pandemic lines were super long but they seem to have died down with maybe about 5-10 people in line at the longest. I highly recommend using the Green Bags and just drop them off. Saves you time that could be better spent elsewhere. I don't recommend the green bag program. It ends up costing you to recycle. After paying their fee and fee for bags and all the work you put into it, the criminals they hire take the credit for your deposit. The whole corrupt beverage industry has made it difficult for you to reclaim your deposit ON PURPOSE. Green bag makes you start an online account, wait for you card with barcode to open drop door and hold your credits, use kiosk to print your labels, use kiosk to print your refund, use different kiosk to dispense your money and buy green bags $2 per box and charge fee per bag to process. Nine out of ten times the drop is so full you have to come back another time when they feel like processing your cans and bottles. Just take your bottles back to the store and vote to revoke a bill that only 3 of the stupidest states voted for 50 years ago. Two if you consider Oregon an extension of California. read more

If Disneyland is "The Happiest Place on Earth", then BottleDrop locations must be "The Saddest Place on Earth." This Beaverton location is like something out of a Mad Max movie. Problem #1: The parking lot is WAY too small for the number of people attempting to park, and invariably there will always be some jackwad who thinks it's a fantastic idea to just double-park their car while they drop off their green bags. This brings traffic to a halt. Problem #2: Sometimes the drop off bin for green bags is SO full that you literally can't put anything in there. When that happens you have to put your bags in a pile inside the (very stinky) facility and hope those bags aren't stolen. Which brings me to Problem #3: About 20% of the green bags I have dropped off were mysteriously never counted. And yes, I am 100% certain those bags had tags. In fact that is the very first thing I do when compiling my bags; I apply the stickers and then take a photo of each number so I can later verify that the bag was counted. But about 20% of my bags apparently disappeared into thin air. That is unacceptable. And from what I've read elsewhere this problem is not unique to me. I'm sure many people DO forget to tag their bags. But I'm not one of those people. So where did my bottles go?!? Problem #4: On my last visit there was a very aggressive bum asking - and almost demanding - that people with green bags give those to him. I saw him approach (and frighten) three different people before a 98 lb. security guard told him to back off. It's pretty easy to see why they have - and why they NEED - multiple security guards. I have a concealed carry permit, and places like this remind me as to exactly why I have that permit. You might wanna keep Grandma at home if you need to stop here. The BottleDrop idea is a great one, but the execution still needs a lot of work. The bins should never be so full that you literally can't use them. Bottle counts need to be accurate! And they need to more promptly take care of "problem clients" Edit: Once again, on June 20 2020, I stopped at this location at 9:30AM. The drop box for green bags is COMPLETELY full. Yes, recycling is an errand that is not the most fun. I am sorry to see such poor reviews given what a pleasant experience I had at this location. Security outside was respectful and helpful. Inside, Jeff was friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. It does take time to process the cans by hand but you can purchase the bags and stickers at the kiosk to make the drop off process faster in the future. Overall, I have to compliment the staff for great customer service and can only hope that everyone has a similar experience. read more

I count 9 Bottle Drop locations for easily over 2 million people. And one of them is in Gresham and one is in Forest Grove. No wonder I can't find parking. No wonder I wait in line for an hour before I get inside the building. And then, they allow a family to use all of the machines at once. As long as they have a bag, they have a machine. So bring your friends. During COVID, the overweight power monger dude at Raleigh Hills, threatened to evict me, a 60 year old woman, if I didn't use the 6 foot distancing spot on the floor, when I stepped inside the door, totally out of EVERYONES way, to get out of the rain. But wait, there's more.....for at least 3 trips.....likely a 3 month period, a Lagunitas brand was not accepted by the machine. So, I just kept taking them back home, expecting the Bottle Drop to easily add the can to their inventory. Nope, It never happened. It stinks in there. They know the homeless frequent flyers and I've seen the head nod to a few to skip the line. So I ask, what's to like. Btw, I don't live in Cali, I live in Beaverton....wtf. read more

I dropped off 10 bags on my first drop off and only got $61.00 dollars. One regular paper bag usually runs $3-4.00 each. So I dropped off another bag and I counted 84 cans in the bag so I figured I would get $8.00, minus the $0.40 fee. It has been 3 weeks and I never got the money. I have called them 2 times and waited on hold for a long time. I left a message and they have never called me back. This seems like a rip off to me. Never again will I use them. read more

This is about 5 miles from my house but I happily make the drive because that's how much I hate standing on a sticky floor in the back of a grocery store to feed cans into a dirty machine that constantly jams and stops working. SO nasty. Well put like that, I guess it makes a ton of sense. I use the green bags -- just fill a bag, put a sticker on that corresponds to my account, and drop it off through the little door. I think the fee is like $.35 a bag, plus a couple of bucks for a roll of bags. Well, WELL worth it. The first time I went in, to get an account set up (which took maybe 5 minutes) I did use the machines and found they worked well, weren't jamming, were relatively clean, and someone was mopping the floor. There's always a line though and I'd just as soon drop off a bag and go. I've counted cans before to see if I'm getting the right amount deposited to my account, and it's always within a few cans' worth. I'm so fine with that. This system works very well for me and replaces a chore I usually dread, so definitely a win. read more

How many machines are working on any given day? They are not equipped to deal with the amount of cans and bottles people bring in. I have similar experience as other people with green bags. The drop off bins are always too full to add more bags to them. I recently dropped off 2 full bags filled mostly with small cans(smaller than standard soda). I expected to get between $20-$30, but was credited with $5 total. I suspect they don't even bother counting the cans, but just approximate the number of cans. In this case even the approximation was way off. The machines don't accept my cans, the manual counter will only accept 50 cans a day, and the green bag program rips people off. read more

So I signed up for the bottle drop program. I got an activation code number that supposedly gives us 4 days to get the card at their kiosk at a bottle drop location. I went to the kiosk the next day after signing up, punched in the number (it was the correct number) and it said the activation code had expired. (after 1 day) Tried calling, that was a laugh. Tried emailing and got an acknowledgement that it was received. STILL waiting for help. With all the other complaints and there are a plethora of them, this is a very poorly run system and what I am hearing, a rip off as well. All stores should go back to receiving return bottles or forget bottle deposit altogether. They must have a politician's brother in law running this, what is very loosely called a program. read more

It's not a good idea to get an account with this company. You fill pre-paid for bags and place stickers with your account number on them. You then scan your member card and drop the bags in front of the building. The money is then loaded on your card and you can use the machine inside to cash it in. The problem is, they don't give you what your bags are worth. They claim that what you redeemed what probably not redeemable. I was cheated by quite a lot and will never go back. You're better off doing it yourself. They have a good scam going on. read more

Your experience at Bottle Drop can vary depending on method of bottle redemption you choose to use. You have 3 choices: use Bottle Drop Plus, hand sorting from a front desk staff person (I believe up to 75-80 cans), or using the machines for up to 350 cans per day per person. The machines seem to have the longest wait time, especially on the weekends. The facility itself has a mild/moderate odor of fermenting can contents, and it's extremely loud in there. If you have a noise sensitivity, then going into Bottle Drop is not for you or bring ear plugs (the staff are wearing them). The parking lot is crowded on the weekends, with no auxiliary parking that I know of, and it's hard to see when turning out of their parking lot. Need to make a left hand turn to get into Portland? It's almost impossible! All the staff I've interacted with have been apathetic at best, so very lacking in customer service & you typically have to wait 5-15 min for assistance because staffing levels seem to be low (meaning only 1 staff person on the floor at a time typically). What stops me from rating this place lower than 3 stars is the 12 cents Bottle Drop Plus program. You come into the center to sign up at the kiosk (bring your driver's license as the kiosk scans your license to sign up). You then get your Bottle Drop Plus card. You go to the front desk to pick up your complementary first Bottle Drop Plus sticker and green bag. You place your cans in the green bags with a single sticker and drop them in the chute outside (so no need to smell the funk inside, no lines, and no enduring the high noise volume). The only downside is that the chute isn't open 24 hours a day. After you've dropped off the Bottle Drop Plus cans, the cans are added to your Bottle Drop Plus account in 3-5 days, and they can be redeemed at local stores for 12 cents per can vs. 10 cents. You buy more stickers & green bags for 15 cents per sticker/bag combo. You cannot buy the green bags/stickers with cash. They take money from your Bottle Drop Plus card to pay for more bags. There's a lot of steps, but it's worth it to gain 20% more on can collecting & you can then redeem them for grocery money. Natural Grocers and Fred Meyer (which are both close by) accept Bottle Drop Plus cards. read more

BottleDrop is a scam. We have dropped off 12 bags in the past 2 weeks each with 65 cans in them, we counted each bag as we filled them with the same amount. They have only given us credit for 11 bags and with the equivalent of 35 cans per bag. Trying to contact them is impossible. We have left 3 emails and still no reply. read more

I went to this bottle drop last week ago on may 21 at 9:21 am. The security there was very aggressive that day and also the guy in the front desk. I had put all my bottle in and some of them wouldn't go in so I go to the front desk to get the person to manually put them in and he asks me."How many tickets do you have" and I was like I only have 1 and he gives me that look then he's like "Are you sure cause I'm going to check the cameras" and I was like yes I'm 100 percent sure. While all this was happening the security was there and was on his phone. So I go up to the security after the guy goes to check the cameras. And I'm like why is he going to check the cameras and he's like cause some people "LIKE YOU" bring in fake tickets and try to scam the machines. And at that moment I felt really offended cause of my race. I told the security that he was racist then he proceeded to try to kick me out just cause I told him he was racist. Cause of what he said then I'm like I am not getting out and he's like ima kick you out then. And then he's like "Im allowed to kick you out cause your causing Public disturbance" and at that point I cussed out both of them and got my ticket and I cashed it out and I go outside. I haven't received credit for bottles with my account twice in the South Salem, Commercial Street Bottle Drop redemption center. I went in today, purchased more bags and labels and labeled a new bag. The employee said I would be credited for only one of the two bags that were never recorded. At that point I dropped off another full bag. That means my account should show 3 bags, but it is still only showing 1. Something is wrong here. This seems to be an ongoing issue. Read Daphnie B's review on 8/28.
