My father…read morewas a pediatrician for Over 40 years and he retired when my son was 2, which was so stressful, because how was I going to find anyone that I could trust with my kids medical care the way I trusted my father? But then we found Dr. Franzia and I immediately knew we were in the best hands. Her caring demeanor coupled with her vast knowledge of pediatric medicine and kids in general (she's also a mom of 2) made her the perfect fit. Not only is Dr. Franzia an amazing clinician, but she is also a kind and loving person that puts kids first. She engages with kids during the exam, explains what she is going to do and puts their minds at ease. Her office is so kid friendly that my son (now 4) LOVES going and even asks to go to the doctor regularly. Every exam room has a theme with an animal exam table and tons of toys and books. This is the perfect practice for kids that hate the doctor or have stress or anxiety about it. She also takes the time to speak to the parents and go over any concerns at every visit. She provides her clients with so many resources and information so that they can be educated and play an active role in their children's healthcare and development. Sometimes you may have a little wait for your appointment, but being a solo practitioner, and not turning away sick kids, this office runs pretty smoothly. And honestly, my kids don't mind waiting in the exam rooms because there is so much stuff to explore! And if your kid is sick, you know she will fit you in so they get the care they need. Another thing that is unique about this practice is their integration of nutrition and how it plays into health. This is something that is honestly overlooked by so many doctors, but is the foundation of health, especially with little growing bodies. No complaints, only praises for this clinic (and as a pediatricians daughter who grew up around a pediatrics office, I'm a tough critic). I'd bet that the recent bad review was someone who was either disrespectful or verbally abusive to the staff, because it just doesn't add up. Dr. Franzia is a loving and respectful person and doctor, and likely expects the same from her patients.

My kids told her on our last trip there that she was their favorite doctor (and that's before she told them that they were going to get a lollipop). I'd highly recommend Dr. Nelson. She even comes in on her off days to catch up on all her emails. She's very responsive. We had an incident 2 years ago and the care she gave my child was amazing. You can definitely tell that she loves what she does and truly wants what's best for your child. She's not quick to jump on medications or anything, sometimes, it's just rest and plenty of liquids for a common cold. We have also seen Dr. Levin when Dr. Nelson wasn't available (sick call) and he's amazing as well. Melissa, the nurse is really nice (and my kids always ask her if they need to get a shot). I should say sorry for my son kicking you 3 years ago when we had to give him a shot - sorry! He's definitely got more comfortable and does not kick anymore - yay! Love everything about this practice. I just wished I could get my flu shots here too with the freezy spray!

If you read my review of them you'll see I'm one of Dr. Rauen's biggest fans. Over the past few years I've spent a lot of time at their office, especially since my youngest has asthma. When I catch Dr. Rauen during her 2 1/2 days in the Northbrook office all is great, although on the other days I haven't been as satisfied with the other doctors in the practice. I probably would have never switched practices since I was somewhat satisfied, but I had the unique advantage of watching Dr. Levin interact with his many patients in the halls of my kids pre-school. His daughter goes there too in case you were wondering why he's roaming the halls of a pre-school. ;) A few weeks ago I heard my son coughing at night and was panicked about going to Children's Healthcare Associates on a day that Dr. Rauen wasn't there. The next morning he woke up cough free, but that was the day I made the call to Elm Street Pediatrics. It was easy peasy to switch. They actually had my children's records on file since they use the same system so I didn't even have to get anything transferred. And then (of course) the very next morning my son woke up wheezing. My original plan was to hit up their sick hours (8:30-10am), but then I saw Dr. Levin while dropping off my oldest at school and he said he'd be there in a few hours and to call his office to have them squeeze him in. Right then I knew I made the right choice to switch and it just got better... The office called me back and said Dr. Levin would come in a bit early to see my son- amazing! When I told my 2 year old we were going to see a new Dr he insisted on seeing Dr. Rauen, but as soon as he as he saw Elm Street Pediatrics train table in the waiting room he was all about Dr. Levin. He's easily impressed! And the Jake the Pirate sticker & lollipop on the way out sealed the deal. It takes a little more than a train table to impress me, but Dr. Levin did it. We were there for 1 1/2 hours, which may be longer than I've ever spent at the pediatrician. Dr. Levin spent a huge chunk of that time with us between seeing other patients. My son was very comfortable with him and has been referring to himself as a doctor ever since. When he graduates from med school one day we'll know who to thank. Dr. Levin got him breathing again (whew) and even addresses his eczema issues. He called in a bunch of different creams. I was hopeful, but skeptical...but a week later his eczema has miraculously cleared up. Seriously amazing! Dr. Levin also emailed first thing the next morning to check-in, which I've found is rare when it comes to most practices. Some other things I really like about the practice (especially from a working moms perspective): - Walk-in hours every Monday-Friday from 8:30-10am. I haven't taken advantage of them (yet), but hear it's not too bad of a wait with the exception of Mondays. - Open til 7pm 3 days/week - Saturday hours til 1pm I haven't heard much about the other doctors in the practice since everyone I know goes to Dr. Levin, but the front desk staff and nurses were all very nice during our visit. * http://www.yelp.com/biz/childrens-healthcare-associates-northbrook?osq=chicago+healthcare+associates

Dr. Rappaport and her assistant, Beth, have refined the drudgery of taking a kid to the pediatrician's office by cultivating a relaxed, welcoming, and warm office setting. That approach is central to their patient care. Whether it's for a yearly check-up or a sick visit--the high standards are the same. I believe Beth typically says, "when can you come in?" It's unusual in any business, let alone medicine, to find someone who looks to accommodate my schedule. Once we are there, both Beth and Dr. Rappaport take the time to listen to our concerns. They are in no hurry; I never feel rushed or flustered that I haven't had all of my questions answered. The care is exceptional. Dr. Rappaport has a common-sense approach and impeccable medical knowledge. She's never alarming, always measured, and extremely compassionate. It's clear she is not just a doctor, but also a mother, who relates easily to her patients and their parents. In addition, she has built a marvelous rapport with my boys. She has cared for them since they were toddlers--they are now very active 8 year old twins. She's as thorough with their physical exam as she is with their mental well being; dealing with topics such as bullying. She gives them (and us) clear-cut, age appropriate advise on how to deal with it. I don't typically write reviews, but I was compelled to do so in this case. This is a different style of medicine than I have ever experienced. I'm so grateful to be a part of it, and I believe it's worth letting others know that the run to the pediatrician's office doesn't have to be a frantic, impersonal, or harried experience.

To start, every time I go there with my children, I wait about 30min - 45 min, even though I come on time. Most importantly, the quality of care is nothing spectacular, but what separates them apart is the money-grabbing attitude. The whole business is built on charging exuberant fees and making insane profits made on sick children. During the last visit, I've waited 45 min, came with both of my daughters for suspicion of strep throat. Doctor Varghese saw both of them for no more than 5 min in total, prescribed two tests, and charged around $500, which included $310 for the "office visit" At this rate, just office visits alone would yield $3,720 / hour! The office staff is unprofessional, the billing department refused to make any adjustment to the bill, stating that it took time for the doctor to call me and to leave a voicemail about the test results! I would not recommend this office to anyone with a high deductible policy, anyone who is looking for a bit more than mediocre care at an inflated cost, anyone who values their time, convenience, and care for their children.
