Other surgical services performed are comprehensive oculoplastic surgery including cosmetic eyelid surgery, glaucoma surgery, and pediatric and strabismus surgery. We are well-trained to care for diabetic eye disease, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and thyroid eye disease. Our office offers comprehensive contact lens fitting, offering a diverse array of contact lens models and materials. We are highly trained for successful fitting of challenging "hard to fit" lenses, including multifocal "bifocal" lenses and contact lenses for high astigmatism. Our optical dispensary offers a diverse array of high quality frame styles for the entire family.

Meet the Business Owner: James W.

James W Matthews, M.D., completed his undergraduate training at the University of Kentucky. Subsequently he attended medical school and graduated from Marshall University Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency and served as chief resident at St. Francis Medical Center, with associated training at the University of Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He returned to Kentucky, establishing his practice in Lexington. Dr. Matthews is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Matthews voluntarily repeated rigorous training and retesting for elective recertification. Dr. Matthews has previously served on the Board of the Kentucky Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, and was trusted and elected successively by his peers, the members of the Kentucky Academy of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, to serve as Secretary-Treasurer, Vice President, and ultimately President.

Another location claimed to accept my insurance, but I was still charged $110 for a basic annual exam that should have been covered. The following year, I decided to try UK Advanced Eye Care, and I'm so glad I did. The staff is wonderful--friendly, professional, and great at what they do. But what truly keeps me coming back is Nicole. She handles the eyewear side of things and is simply the best at what she does. Nicole has helped me with my glasses in more ways than I can count. She's kind, knowledgeable, and always greets you with a smile. After three years, she's the reason I continue to return. To be clear, I go to the Turfland Mall location. Thank you to the entire UK Eye Care team--and especially Nicole. I really appreciate what you do!
